Up-Down Horses Merry Go Round...

What is your favourite fairground ride. There are a lot to choose from, some more thrilling than others, but nothing more relaxing methinks, and attractive to the kids than the old fashioned Merry Go Round, which my grandchildren call the Up-Down Horses.
They love to ride on there. I'm too ladylike to lift my leg over the horses, so I either have to sit in one of the carts or side-saddle.:-)
The old-fashioned, fairground organ plays away in the central strut and I quite enjoy a ride on this Merry Go Round.
How about you? Do you prefer the old-fashioned rides, or do you go for something more thrilling, like the switchback, whip, or rollercoaster? Please share your preferences.

Hey there Darkwing... I generally am an advetures person... and if you say I am a roller coaster type.. You wouldn't be wrong.
I love the speed and the thrill and the rise and the fall.
But I suppose everyone has a child in them and my child sometimes likes to be soft. So sometimes I do like sitting on those Up-Down horses and enjoy my happiness and share it with people close to my heart.
I love doing such things sometimes. It relaxes me from all the tensions and pain.
Any ways Take Care
May GOD Bless YOU

Ha ha,I spent the entire childhood of my niece and nephew dodging rides. I am a chickie wickie and I am terrified of all of them!
My niece is a white knuckle fanatic and my poor brother is even more terrified than I am but what a trooper, he has been on the whole lot!
I have to admit I am happy to watch the carousel where the horsies go up and down in between trying to hook the beak of one of those pesky ducks to see if I can win a prize!

I have always liked the motion and music - from a distance, much easier on the nerves that the crash bang wallop of the dodgems. I don't know how people escape whiplash, the way they impact upon each other.
Wish you had thrown the plaster of Paris this way, I am the hoarder par excellence lolol.

I have been to the fair for years now, I think Drayton Manor was the last one I went to and really enjoyed it. I do prefer the newer rides though and always thought there was something sinister about a merry-go-round, don't ask me why lol. I like anything that doesn't make you feel like you're falling forwards as I hate that sensation.

Yes, I had to try out the white-knuckle rides when I was younger. I remember getting absolutely soaked on a log flume... wondered why all those people were wearing waterproofs. lol.
Nowadays though, I've mellowed again and the carousel is ideal for me.
Brightest Blessings.

I used to like being jostled and thrown about in the past but not me now. Give me the excilleration of the Big wheel anytime as the views up there are great to look at. The last time I went on the big wheel was a few years ago at Blackpool and it was great when it stopped with me being at the top. Great view of all of the sites.
Have a swinging time from Deeeky.

That's ok when it's light, being stopped at the top, but when it's pitch black and no moon, it can be a bit daunting. You can feel the clammy moisture of the night mist around you, and I can't wait for it to go down again! lol.
I think I'll stick to the London Eye. At least it's closed in and very slow in its movement, thus not having to stop to reload at all.
Brightest Blessings my friend. Hope you're ok.

Do they still have ghostrains? That's what I used to love. They never scared me though but I would wait for something to scare me in thrilling anticipation. lol. I don't like those things that spin or sway or go sickenly high then drop. I don't even like to watch them. These days I'm too tall, too big and too unhealthy according to all the warning signs.

I never really cared for the scary rides myself, I guess I never really understood why people enjoyed getting the cr*p scared out of them. lol. I have always been a sucker for the bumper cars and I would drive those into the ground. I dont get to very many fairs or carivals any more but the bumper cars was always my ride of choice. Take care, Terry

Bumper cars always annoyed me a bit because some people used to drive into the back of you at speed, or even the side and it was dangerous. Mind you, they seem to have stopped bumping these days. I'm not sure whether that takes away the whole idea of the ride, but there you go... that's progress.
Brightest Blessings.

I wasn't able to experience riding Merry Go Round on my childhood days..so sad to say this but its the reality...so when i have the chance on riding in on my teenage days i grab the opportunity in doing so, i assist my cousin on the ride. I felt a big relief after all i have just ride in a Merry Go Round. I'm comfortable on it as compared in riding ferris wheel with whom i got annoyed, i never took a second chance of riding ferris wheel again. One of this day i would like to bring my son to the amuzement center in one of the mall in the city and let my son ride on it. I'd like to ride it again this would be my second chance of riding it soon.

I'm glad you enjoyed your ride, JC, and I'm sure your son will love it. I guess you will be giving him something you never had in your childhood. I was never allowed on the big one when I was young, but once I started going to the fair without my parents, I took the opportunity of making the ride. But, there are smaller versions for children these days, and they seem to love it.
Brightest Blessings.

No, of course I don't mind you using brightest blessings. I didn't invent it, my friend! lol.
Everybody has their own preferences, and although some enjoy one thing immensely, it doesn't mean that everybody does, so you don't have a problem, my friend, just a difference in liking. You probably enjoy something else far more than those who enjoy the fun of the fair.
Take care and Brightest Blessings. :-)

My favorite thing to do at a park is actually swing. I try to get as high as I can. Sometimes I get to the point to where I feel like I am going to flip over. But I do enjoy rollercoasters also. I just don't over that way much to ride. My husband is terrified of them. I am pregnant now so it will be a long while before I can ride a rollercoaster again. But in the meantime I can still swing.

Do you like the old swing boats at the far, with the pulley rope to get you higher? The kids love those as well and they make a smaller version now, just for them. I'd forgotten about them until you reminded me! lol.
Thank you for the reminder and brightest blessings.

i have tried rollercoasters and wildriver and other scary rides. it was fun. but childish as i am, i had fun with the merry go around and the slow ferry's wheel more than those scary rides.
i am 28 years old but i still fell inline just 3 weeks ago just to ride the merry go around. haha. and i am one of those kids enjoying! ferry's wheel is nice, too. i can see the whole city at night when i am on top of it. i felt great being in those rides... anne

I have never liked the rides even when I was younger.I do love to ride horses,on motorcycles,in sportscars, love trucks, would ride on a tractor all day but find it a waste of my time to go round and round.I have done it plenty when the kids were small though!

Well, we're not all the same Ray. Some of us like the thrill of the fair, and others not. You get your thrills from other things. In fact, horseriding must give you a real sense of freedom. I've never done it but sometimes I wish I had.
Brightest Blessings, my friend. xx

I love watching the kids faces as they go round on the merry go round - or carousel as we call them- they are always smiling. I havent been on one in years. I dont really go on many rides, i just enjoy the kids having fun. Years ago i loved all the fast, thrilling ones like the roller coaster or wild mouse, but i cant stomach them now. The dodgem cars are a great one as well. We used to have so much fun on them. I have never liked the ferris wheel though. I dont like heights much, and when i was young i hated them when they stopped up the top. I used to get so scared. So i stopped going on them. Problem now is they are so expensive at the shows now.
Best wishes to you, darkwing, and happy memories
