Smoking ban in cars with children

Do you think it is right for the government to ban smoking in your vehicle if there are children under the age of 18 in it? A lot of states are getting ready to put this law into effect. Anyone who is pulled over while smoking a cigarette with children passengers will be given a fine for the violation. As a non smoker I am a supporter of the ban, but I am curious to know how others feel, especially those who smoke. Do you feel as though this is a violation of your rights, or do you feel a childs right to not be exposed to second hand smoke trumps the former?

will i do smoke and im all for the ban, when you have children in the car.. i have 8 grandkids and i great grand child.. and i know smoking is bad for you lungs and such but i have smoked for a long time.. so look at it this way if you know its bad for your lungs, what to you think its doing to a little child?? it would be worse for them. and if my grandkids arent in the car i have the window half way down so it doesnt stink the inside of the car.. this is just my opinion, about the new law, so i say NO SMOKING WITH KIDS IN THE CAR..

I am glad that you feel so stronly about this. I don't judge anyone who smokes, especially since I was a smoker myself a few years ago. But hearing someone who smokes say that they would accept a ban like this to maintain the health of our children is a great thing. Thanks for the comment.

i totally agree with this ban and would love to see such a ban come into effect in my country as well. This rule helps as not only it makes the smokers vary of smoking in vehicles but also it makes them realise how smoke could be harming children, especially their own kids..

I completely agree with you. Kids are becoming more prone to asthma and a number of other health problems, as well as an increase in the risk of developing lung cancer because of second hand smoke. Since they do not have much of a say in the matter, it is up to the government to speak for them. Thanks for the response.
