Coffee and caffeine

United States
June 18, 2007 12:02pm CST
I am a heavy coffee drinker. I must start the day of with 6 very stong cups. The past few days, I had bad stomach pains. I suppose it was from the acid, as I do have an ulcer. So, I stayed off for two days. I noticed that I was so tired, and kept falling asleep. Do you think it is because I stopped drinking the coffee? do you think it was being off caffeine? Have you had any experinces like this? Thank you.

Too much coffee/caffeine is not good for health. I used to take coffee in early morning and with breakfast only. It is helpful with constipation. The rest with tea and that too is maximum two times. If I work overnight I may take some black coffee to keep the sleep away.

I'm glad you mentioned constipation, as that is how I am my whole life, and found the coffee worked. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your input.

I have three chronic illnesses and was a big coffee drinker like yourself. not only was the caffeine never ever letting me get a whole nights sleep which damaged my conditions extensively, it effected me in ways I never knew, like irregularity, static blood sugars, paranoia, worsened anemiaetc.Caffeine emphasizes every last issue that is wrong with you. I stopped caffeine cold, and the withdrawal made me sleep for nearly three days solid.Once the sleeping is done with, you're much more peaceful, and it's necessary. I hate not being able to drink it, i certainly hate not getting as much done as before, but the being truly sicker than i had to be wasn't worth it.Good luck and I hope you feel better.

It will be intersting to see if I sleep like that again. I did for two nights. It was so hard to get up in the morning though. Oh well, I think that was the problem, and glad I posted it and know now. Feel good and God bless you.

Hon, I am surprised that you did not have a headache big enough to split a mountain in half. Yes, you will be very tired until your body adapts to not having the caffeine. Try drinking extra water, and getting some vitamin B12, especially the sublingual kind, it will help your energy levels. Ulcers are often caused by a bacterial infection and will improve with a course of antibiotics, along with antacids or other acid controllers. It is true, acid in coffed and other things will irritate it.

I am surprised you have not complained of headache. Withdrawal from the substance in coffee is normally painful. Coffee is best used on occasion and for special purposes. It is not really meant for daily consumption. You will have to let your body detox before you can starting eating to keep your system more even throughout the day. I avoid coffee however I do note that when I drink pop real regularly and then stop, I do get a headache. So I hope you can adjust and save some money on top of that. Good luck.

Hi honey. Did you know I got banned from the other site? I was near payout, and they said my posts were not valuable. Thanks for replying to this post.I didn't get a bad headache. I was just so unbelivably tired. I kept falling asleep each time I sat, and could not push myself to move. I have been sick this week, and stressed from everything, so I wasn't sure what it was. Then coffee came to mind. How are things going for you sugar? Thanks for replying to this.

Which site? I haven't been to dormcheck since I cannot log in anymore?! and then Cashpost? I haven't been back there either since there is difficulty in maneuvering around. Drink alot of what and snack often to keep sugar levels stable. You will in time adjust. Am ok, we need another van since I start a 4 day job this Thursday if I can get there. Other than that it is going as good as can be expected. Thanks for responding to me and asking also. Good luck to you.

Yikes...you start the day with six cups of coffee? I would think that drinking that much coffee would have an effect on your ulcer and your stomach. Do you get any headaches if you stop drinking coffee? I think your system is wired to the effects of caffiene. Meaning that it expects that caffiene hit. Do you keep drinking it all day long? I would think that with that much coffee you would have trouble sleeping during the night and that would cause you to be tired. I only drink one or two cups a day so I am not sure about your problem. My guess is that you should cut back your coffee intake in the morning and become less dependent on caffiene. You put all that stimulant into your system all day long and then expect your body to rest at night. I don't know how you get much sleep.

No, I don't drink it all day long. Just before noon, and that's it. Once in a blue moon, one more cup in the early afternoon. No headaches to complain off. Just the stomach pain, and falling asleep each time I sit down. I was so tired in church, I could not keep my eyes open. So, do you think this happened because I just stopped cold turkey?

Oh my so you are a coffee drinker too I am glad that I am not the only one :) I only drink it in the mornings and sometimes I have 4 or more cups of coffee when I am alone. It eases my mind sometimes but I know I shouldn't drink that much coffee. Without coffee for a few days I'll go nuts :) I would say yes it's probably because yoiu havent had a caffine in a few days. Have you ever tried decafe coffee? I might try those if I have the guts.Take care my friend.

It could very well be the lack of caffeine. I drink a lot of soda but when i switched to no caffeine.i noticed i started getting tired and lathargic. I started drinking a little bit of caffinated soda along with the non caffeinated and i have been fine

Being sick, and all that happened this week, I just wasn't sure. Then I quit cold turkey, and I became so lathargic. Thanks for your input sugar. Oh, I was banned from cashpost. Did I tell you that? They said I posted too much, and didn't like them.

I checked and you are listed as a Big Poster. There is no notations about being banned. Usually there is a notation and a reason listed next to or under the ID name. Are you sure you have been banned? Maybe it was only a warning. The lack of coffee is really messing you up. Maybe you misread it because of the lack of coffee. Ok, I am brewing a new batch of coffee for you.

I have no idea but I think 6 cups is way too much. If you switch to decaf coffee, how about that?

Hi margieanneart! Your body must be immune to your coffee drinking. Too much coffee is bad to your health. You must drink moderatly. Try to drink energy drinks as well. Have a great day.

I know coffee contains caffeine which keeps people awake and alert. In my case, when i drink coffee at night and go to bed, I tend to have a very sound sleep. I wake up in the morning feeling all fresh. But i usually don't drink coffee like other people do, I just drink it when may be my friends are drinking it or something.

I think it has something to do with that. I had headaches for years after I stopped drinking tea for a long time. So, I am not surprised at all. But, if it continues for a long time, you might want to check with a doctor just to be sure.

if i'll drink coffee as much as you do, maybe i will die early 'coz even only a cup makes me sick already. i will suffer from fast heartbeat or palpitation minutes after i drink coffee. caffeine has a really different effects on every individual but surely it's not healthy at all.

Its the coffee, you are addicted to it so your body was starting to shut down (reaction to not getting it). I drink 6 + coffees in the mornings too just get my eyes open. I am totally addicted, If I dont have some I have those symtoms plus also get knocked down with massive bad headaches.

I love my caffeine also. I drink almost a full pot every morning. I think what you were going through was caffeine withdrawals. It has happened to me before when I stopped drinking coffee. And also I got severe headaches from stopping.
