I know it's very subjective to answer this but still I'd like to know what you think about your cooking skills. I am not a bad cook i guess, even though i don't know how to cook a huge amount of things, but i won't starve, that's for sure hehe. I like to cook and eat all kinds of things...vegetables, meat, fish...that makes it more interesting and less repetitive. So far i haven't had many complaints! lol
So, do you think you're a good cook? which is your speciality?

MMM you-d have to ask the other half and the kids that one! lol There are a few things that I know I make really well. like Steak pie, beef and mushroom casserole, a couple of pasta dishes , that sort of thing but then again the kids rarely complain so I can't be that bad! lol

I am a very ADVENTUROUS cook. LOL! That my cousins and family always look forward to tasting whatever I get to whip up. Sometimes when my cousins gets wind that I am cooking something new, they would find excuses to drop by our house. LOL! So generally I am a good cook. My specialty are salads, pasta and some chicken recipe.

HI LightninStrike, I think you are a very good cook because you can cook anything. you can cook vegetables, meat, fish........... sooo many things. i am not a very good cook because i can cook only veggies items. i know a variety of veggies but i am limited to veg cooking, so i cannot say myself to be a good cook. yes, i can say my hubby to a good cook than me because he can cook veg. as well as non-veg. a person is a good cook when he or she is able to cook anything, be it veg or non-veg. i can say myself to be good, or to be very good also at times in veg itemns that i cook but i am zero in others. i dont even know how to break an egg properly. i lawayz makes a mess of it. i dont remember a single time i have done it correctly. it is my hubby how breaks it up andthen i make certain dish out of it. otherwise if he is not there, i cannot make anything of egg. i can do only boiling, that too, hard boiling of eggs.
i can handle get togethers, kitty parties, or any type of function arrangement, and cooking all on my own, without anybodyz help, but the menu should be all veg.

Hey aweins, thanks for answering. You say that you cannot cook anything that's not vegetables. But is that because you're a vegetarian so that you never eat meat etc? in that case it wouldn't mean you're a bad cook, simply that you never tried, right?
Anyway i said i can do a bit of everything, but nothing too special LOL. My mother is better for that, she really is an excellent cook.

I am not a good cook, but I listen to the likes and dislikes of my family and guests and I present the food in an attractive way. I also tend to serve food in separate dishes so that everyone can help themselves to the foods they enjoy and it seems to work very well for me.
I never know how many people will be present for a meal, and at times up to nine people are here to be fed, and they always eat everything so I suppose I must get something right.
One tip I would give is that when you have a large piece of meat or a large fowl, cook that until you are happy it is cooked, THEN cook the vegetables. Provided you keep the meat moist it will be extremely enjoyable, and everything will then be cooked and ready to eat, rather than ruining the vegetables because you have to cook them for too long whilst the meat finishes cooking.

LOL! No – I admit it! I am not a cook at all – I can just about boil an egg and make a cup of tea and a piece of toast, and that’s the extent of it. I am the woman that Marks and Spencers’ ready meals were created for. I have far too much I enjoy doing when I get home from work, than to waste it on something I hate doing! Sorry to disillusion you – I am most certainly not a domestic goddess!!! LOL

Yes - you are right. They do cook more in Spain. We spend a lot of time there - my partner's job involves him working quite often from his company's offices in Barcelona and also in Madrid - he is from Argentina so I guess he has a head-start with the language! I know when we first met he was quite surprised about how I hate cooking - most South American women cook too - but when I told him he would have to start cooking himself before I slaved over a hot stove - and he soon got a taste for good old Marks and Spencer! LOL!

LOl...you haven't disillusioned me silly...many people can't cook or simply hate it. When i've been in the uk i've noticed that many many many people buy that kind of prepared foods you mentioned...i think they cook less than here in spain, but i could be wrong.

People, who eat my cooking, say I am a good cook. Especially it is very difficult to get a good name from my husband. He also enjoys cooking done by me. But we are vegetarians. Hence I know only to cook vegetarian dishes, whether north Indian, South Indian, mexican noodles, pasta, macaroni etc. Want to taste?

Most of the time, I am a terrible cook, LightninStrike!:-)
In fact I didn't even know how to cook, other than frying or boiling an egg, making tea and French fries and just that until I came to France. Though my budget was enough for hoteling most of the time but with family it's not as I had to send something back to them too. So I ventured to learn cooking and doing it first time you can safely assume what I would have been like.
I have improved a lot, though. At least my wife says so, as last year she was pregnant and had some difficulties so what we shared in cooking had to be done almost exclusively by me i.e. I did the whole cooking most of the time and on my way I have improved a lot. But I still like my wife and my mother to cook, if I really want to like the taste:-)
Well that's a short one, I hope:-)

hahaha, yep it was short and nice mate. I'm glad you've improved because even if your wife cooks more often, it's good that you know how to do it just in case...i hate to see men who really wouldn't know how to do things if they were alone...it's sad in my opinion.

That's one of my favorite skills or hobby doing, I actually studied before about cooking by taking the course of Hotel and Restaurant Management, so I believe not to be brag about it that I can do cook better and I have my recipes kept still with me in case if I'd like to cook something special in a special occasion or gathering, though I can as well cook foods by heart but I'm just very a typical person doing my very best to make it perfect when it comes to cooking itself. :-)

I wouldn't say i'm a great cook, but i'm creative. I love trying new things that appeal to me... I hate recipes although i do use them as a guideline but never seem to follow them, so its for the best to never actually ask me how I made something. My food tends to come off with rave reviews.. So yea I guess I'm pretty good

I'm a very good cook. I don't mean to sound egotistical by saying that, but I am. My ex tells people that they haven't eaten until I've cooked for them, and still comes over for dinner from time to time (especially if I'm making one of his favorites). Of course he also spends the time with our son.
I've had friends ask me if I want to come over for dinner, and when I get there they say "the kitchen is yours, do whatever you want."
My 'specialty' I guess would be italian, but I'm also pretty well known among my friends for looking into a pretty bare pantry and coming up with something delicious for dinner.

I think I'm a good cook because I truly enjoy cooking. I'm a big fan of Rachel Ray and I love to use whatever ingredients I have in my home to create a meal, and making up my own recipes. I love Italian food and this is probably my favorite food to cook. I make my own marinara sauce and serve it over pasta and I love making pasta primavera with fresh vegetables. I also make very good Mexican dishes as well. Cooking is a favorite pastime of mine. I just wish I loved baking as much.

I don't think I can judge myself for that but I can say what my family and friends told me about my cooking. They said I'm a good cook coz I follow and revive the recipe deliciously. And I can say that they telling me the truth coz my friends whenever they want to visit me here in my house they are asking me to cook for their favorite dishes like vegetables.

I'm a far better baker than a cooker. I usually leave the cooking up to my husband but if for some reason he's not able to cook then I can make a fairly decent meal. I like to think I'm a good cook. So far, I haven't killed anyone or made anybody sick so that's a good sign. I prefer to cook chicken and pork chops if I'm cooking but I can make a pretty decent steak too.

I am not a good cook.. I know nothing other than making a cup of tea or coffee. My mother keeps on telling me the receipe for various dishes but everything seems to enter one ear and exit from the other. I have, for the time being, started recognizing various dals and other components needed for seasoning. Maybe after some days I will learn to cook like you.

It would be a good idea bk, not only because it's useful, but also because i hate not being able to do something on my own just because i don't know how. If someone cooks for me i won't complain, but i like the idea of being able to do stuff on my own in case of need.
