Disney World or Pool?

United States

My husband and I are trying to figure out what we want to do with our next tax return. We are thinking about bringing the kids to Disney World for two weeks, which is somewhere we have never been before and we think they would really enjoy it. On the other hand, we can have a deck and pool put into our back yard and this will benefit the whole family for the entire summer season. I really don't know what I want to do as I would like both things. Unfortunatley we cannot do both and have to choose. Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks for the comment! We're still deciding and if we give the kids a chance to put their two cents in, they'll probably choose the trip.

How old are your children? Are they old enough to remember and really enjoy Disney? There are so many rides they can't go on if they are not talk enough. That's something to think about. I think I would go for the deck and pool this year, and go to Disney next year.

My oldest is 9 and would probably have a great time. My others are 5, 4, 2 and almost three months. I'm not sure how many rides they would be able to do as I've never been there before, but I'm sure they have a special kiddie section of the park for the younger kids. I'm leaning more toward the deck and pool also, mainly because I think my kids would enjoy swimming all summer more. Thanks for the response.

When I was a kid, we used to go to Florida every year for 2 weeks. Disney was a day trip in there as well. 2 weeks at Disney is a very very long time lol, and it's very expensive down there. As a kid, I loved going to Disney, and I think all kids should have the opportunity to go there at least once. As an adult, the last time we went several years ago, I absolutely hated it lol. It was so crowded, and the wait times for the rides was horrendous. But, then again, I'd been there so many times as a kid, that may be why I disliked it. If you do opt to go, I'd recommend finding when the off season time is, and going then. Don't go in the summertime, way too hot and crowded. I think usually around Sept is pretty good, kids are back in school, still nice out to go to the beaches, and the snow birds(retirees) have all gone back up North. But, having your own pool is very nice as well lol. Had one when we lived in Florida, so nice....really miss not having one now. How about get the pool this year, and next year go to Disney? Or, better yet, ask the kids what they want to do. But first check into how much it's going to cost to go to Disney, usually you can get package deals, but it's still expensive once you figure in hotels, theme park passes(how many of you-4?), food, plane, car rental, etc. It adds up very quickly. Good luck in your decision!!

We planned on going in August, which will be pretty hot, but that's when the prices go down. I am leaning more towards a pool, while my husband is leaning more towards the vacation. I just feel like the pool will be an investment that we will always be able to get use out of. Thanks for the response.

Disney world would be nice for two weeks however if it were me, I think I would choose the pool because it is something that you could use all the time, pluse it is right there at the house, and with gas prices the way thar they are, it is really a great idea because you can entertain the children all summer long so inexpensively.

I completely agree with you. My husbands argument is that a pool is also an expense that we will continuously need to pay, whereas the vacation is just a one time fee. Either way, I'm leaning more towards the deck and pool. Thanks for the response.
