These excuses might sound really lame, but they are NOT 'fake' at all. As a matter of fact, these excuses were dug up by CareerBuilder.com in a recent survey and there were actual people who used these excuses for work. I was reading Readers Digest the other day and it stated that one out 5 employees admit to making up fake excuses. Continue on to read the TOP 10 excuses that people have actually used. And why not share your excuses that you've used on your employer. I haven't stepped into the working world yet, but as soon as I do, I might just use excuse #8! LOL!
1. I dreamt that I had been fired, so I didn't bother to get out of bed.
2. I had to take my cat to the dentist.
3. I got all the way to the office and realized I was still in my pajamas and had to go home to change.
4. I saw that you weren't in the office, so I went out looking for you.
5. I couldn't find the right tie, so I had to wait for the shops to open to buy one.
6. My son tried to flush our ferret down the toilet and I needed to tend to it.
7. I ran over a goat.
8. I stopped for a muffin, the shop was robbed and the police required everyone to stay for questioning.
9. A bee flew in my car and attacked me and I had to pull over.
10. I wet my pants and went home to change.
So, care to share your own fake excuses??Thanks a bunch guys~!;)

What makes you think that i've never tried it before? :P
Employers are too embarrassed to ask the tough questions! That's the key to getting away with it!

LOL~! I know, doesn't it just sound ridiculous.. But don't be surprised. Only 35% of employers actually say that the DON'T believe these excuses. So I have no idea what the remaining employers think~! :P

I'm not shocked when comes to those hilarious fake excuses in order to skip from work ..:)I had heard so much all kinds of excuses the very common excuses that " my car has problem ,for some reason it wont get started" or "My car broke down on my way to work".....
I don't remember i had an fake excuses for work in my history but i'm sure i have done this before when i was very young when i have my first boyfriend.I rememder that i had made up an excuses for not going to work just because my boyfriend invited me to go for concert with him .Because it takes three hours drive to the concert therefore i can't go to work if i wanted to go with him.:)
Fortunately i haven't done this for many years and i don't think i want to do it again because i don't want lose my job.

If I feel that I will be or want to be late or I don't want to go to my location I usually use fake excuses like, my car broke down, I have a flat tire, I get myself dirty on the way, and I even used that I was trapped inside the elevator and the help arrive in after 4 hrs. All of them work for me and they let me rest at our office or send me to other location to go for duty.

I've never used a fake excuse to call out sick from work except the old standby "I don't feel so well."
I did once have to call for my little sister, she had bad tonsils, and when she got sick they would get these little black sores all over them and get all pus covered. so she obviously couldn't work, nor could she speak. it was a sunday, i called her out, told them she was going to the doctor on monday morning, had an appointment and would bring in a note.
Monday morning rolls around, the store manager calls demanding that I bring her the note that we got from the doctor yesterday. I told her that she was told the day before that my sister was going to the doctor Monday, NOT Sunday and that I would bring the not by after the appointment. She accused me of lying and making up excuses because my sister didn't want to come to work.
So after the doctor's appointment, I delivered the note, accompanied by my sister. Who was happy to open her mouth for the manager to show off her pus covered tonsils, and who made sure to cough in the womans face while she was looking.

Eewwww... Well, serves her right! lol.. Your poor sister had to be dragged all the way to work just because her boss didn't believe she was sick.. Does your sis still work there? I guess next time it'll be easier to come up with an excuse for the boss. Maybe she'll be more lenient. Thanks for sharing~! :)

No. She ended up being fired for extensive absences. The manager conveniently misplaced every doctor's note my sister had (she had one for every absence). Fortunately, we had copies that were sent to the store owner (it was a McDonalds) and the store manager got a reprimand and my sister was invited back. She declined.

i never really use fake excuses to free myself from coming to work unless if i am really desperate... and the one that i will use is usually sick... the classic 'i'm not feeling well' thing... :-) that's all...

Yeah I guess that the most used excuse. I've done that a lot of times for classes as well. I just give the lecturer an MC that you can buy at some clinics.. :P I guess some people don't wanna use the classic 'sick' excuse anymore, so they come up with a new lamer excuse that's unheard of~! LOL.. I'm just guessing.

I have never called into work when I haven't actually been sick and then I still had to go in because they told me that if I liked my job I would get off my butt, quit faking and come to work. I was a short order cook at the time and spent most of the time in the bathroom. My hubby called in sick to work after our 2nd daughter was born last year and told his boss that my stitches had split and I had to go to the doc and they told me that I had to stay in bed all day so he had to take care of me, our newborn, and our 1yr old. I asked him if he had to work and then he told me what he used for an excuse and that I couldn't leave the appartment for the day. I have had a friend of mine use me as an excuse for not going to work because I was "out of town" and couldn't watch her son. I told her the next time she needed to find someone else to use as a scapegoat because I don't like having to hide out in my house so that someone else doesn't get in trouble.

I was late to work one time because my son caught a large fish and I had to clean it before I left for work. My boss didn't think it was a good reason to be late, but my son was only 5 years old and I could not let his fish ruin before I could cook it for him.

Well don't be too surprised addjust~! The survey showed that only 35% employers did NOT believe the excuses given. So the other 65% actually bought it~! Just goes to show that you might just be able to fool your boss.. :P
