I'm working on my family tree and have hit a stumbling block with my great-grandfather. Can anybody tell me what country they think the name Zillebuehler, Zillabuehler, Zillebuihler, and any spelling close to that is from? I had been told they came from Germany, but have recently been told that isn't a German name. I've been searching and searching and can't find anything further back then my great-grandfather. I know lots of names got mis-spelled when the came over, does anybody have any ideas on the spelling or what country this name is from?

At first glance, I just assumed it was a German name. It sounds very German. Since you have confirmed it is not, my next guess would be Dutch. Failing that, I would try something like Austrian. It almost has to have some sort of Germanic origin.
