Tony Blair might convert to Catholicism...

I was listening to the news on the radio this morning, and they were saying that UK's Prime Minister Tony Blair might convert himself to the Catholic rite soon, once he is no longer the PM. His wife, Cherry, is a catholic, and he has attended to catholic masses several times, so it might be true.
He is an anglican, and all the PMs so far had always been anglican, so it's possible that he is waiting for his term to expire so that he doesn't create any scandal with this.
Had you heard about this? What are your thoughts about it?

true, catholic, muslim, atheist...it's all the same to me. As long as we're happy with our beliefs...

If it doesn't matter what religion you are then what is the "one True God" you are speaking of? That and the fact that there are no good people, got me confused.

I erred in saying One True God because not all religion believes in One God. But I would stand by my belief and statement that we are all children of God, no matter what are beliefs are. I also believe that people are all good, basically, since I believe that each person is made in the image and likeness of God.

Blair is just wicked, he can talk about changing religions until he is blue in the face,he can't get away from the amount of blood he has on his hands,it seem to be a western leaders trait, they commit alot of crimes then try to hide behind religion as some kind of screen, hope he knows he can't hide from God or himself.

Yes I read it in the newspaper a while ago. Personally it doesn't bother me one bit - I am not religious, - I truly don't care about religion providing people don't try and push their beliefs onto me, so on my opinion, Tony's choice is just a private one, and of no interest to me or anyone else besides himself and his immediate family. As you say, Cherie is Catholic, and, because of that, their children were bought up Catholics too - so perhaps he just finds it easier? England is very much a secular country - no one really cares much about it. Let him do what he likes and be happy in my view.

he can convert to whatever he like. religion is a personal choice. scandal are made by people who cares more about other people's choice of religion than their own. he should go ahead and do whatever he wants, just don't go around blowing hiomself up with women and children.

Why would you hate him just because he changed his confession?

That's interesting. I hadn't heard that yet. I didn't even know Tony Blair's wife was Catholic. It's somewhat surprising, but if that's what he wants to do he should go for it. It wouldn't be too big of a change anyways. I mean the Anglican church broke off from the Catholic when Henry VIII couldn't get his annulment, so the two still have a lot in common.

Yep, Anglican Church was born basically because Henry got pissed off at the pope anyway. But they have some liberal aspects that i wish the catholic church could assume, like women being able to become priests, or not making celibacy obligatory.

I'm not UK citizen but I was baptized Catholic. I used to be puritan but as I grow older I realize that people can be good even if they don't belong to any religion, so I'm not puritan anymore. I don't know much about Anglican, but why would it create a scandal if Blair converted? Sorry I don't get it

I have heard about it as it has been all over the news today! I personally think that it doesn't matter what religion someone is and should not affect their position in the country! If he feels he wants to follow the Catholic faith he should be able to do so whilst still in power! xxx

I haven't got to read or heard the news about it just yet, but would love to check on it online if ever I can...I would pass on the news to my dad and uncle which they're fond to knowing news all over the world, they probably missed watching those. Thanks for the post Light.
