Unfortunately, yes I have. It's devastating how many lives and families are affected by cancer of all kinds.
My mother lost her battle of more than 5 years on November 25, 2004. She was 63 years old. She had a relatively rare cancer of the salivary gland (parotid) which, I can tell you honestly, is just awful to watch advance. I was her primary caregiver throughout much of her disease and, eventually, it took both me and my sister to care for her. We kept her in-home until about 36 hours before she passed away. At the hospital, she was heavily medicated for her pain, closed her eyes and never woke up. I wouldn't say she passed peacefully but I do know it was a blessing.
Last year, my 12 year old (at the time) daughter, decided to become a fundraiser for cancer research in her grandmother's name and memory. She set a goal of $100,000 - which she says she'll reach, no matter how long it takes - and in her first year, she's closing in on $3,000 raised. It's a touching tribute, I think, and it keeps Mom/Grandma with us... and I just know my Mom's now able to smile again :)

I lost my grandfather to colon cancer in 1986. It was a very sad thing for me. The final days were terrible - when he couldn't even remember anyone or who he was. I hope that I never lose anyone else to cancer.

Well, I m so sorry about your sister. I thankfully have not had that happen to me at all. But, you will see her someday indeed, so hang in there.
