Has Anyone Gotten Laid Off From Their Job???

Like you I am self-employed and don't like working with big companies because they are very bureaucratic and they are more concerned with political plays than actually getting on with business. I actually have worked as an employee before but I was not very good at holding jobs. I've actually been fired before, which was not good for the ego but I think I've managed to accept that may be this was a sign that I was not meant to be an employee. Being self-employed is not easy either. Yes, there is freedome but the income is not consistent. However, I think once you get used to certain facts of life, you become smarter about how to deal with them. I think I started becoming more conscious about the need to have savings when I became self-employed and thus lost the security of a regular pay cheque. Ironically, it was one of my bosses who suggested that I remain self-employed. He told me I'd never explain why I had so many gaps in my CV and he also told me that the concept of loyalty to the employee was a thing of the past and so it was necessary to be able to stand on my own two feet.

Self employment is very hard but freedom has its cost....
