3-Tiered Wedding Cake

3-tiered Wedding Cake - For my son's wedding
United States
June 22, 2007 5:41pm CST
Here is a photo of the wedding cake I made for my son's wedding. I am not a professional baker by any sense of the word, but I get by. There are many flaws in the cake, but everyone thought it was great. The cake was yellow with buttercream icing and the filling was chocolate. The cake topper was bought at the dollar store. It is the top of a heart shaped box. The flowers were artificial. I kept it simple. Sometimes simple is best.

That is absolutely beautiful! I think you did a very nice job on it. I bet it tasted really good. I don't see any flaws and as long as everyone liked it, who cares if there was. What a nice mom you are. I bet your son loved it.

You did a wonderful job! I bet your son and his new wife were so happy at the way it turned out. I do agree with you that sometimes simple is best. I don't really like extravagant things.

They appreciated my efforts. Although it was a simple cake, it took me about 3 hours to bake and put it all together.

Well, I can honestly say that's a beautiful cake. Artificial flowers or not, those are very pretty, those are my favorite flowers. I didn't see any flaws, must of been where I couldn't see it. It might have looked simple to some people, looked beyond beautiful to me.

That's lovely! I've always admired the work people can do with cakes. I mean, my aunt did a lot of cake decorating and was really great at it. I even helped her some when I was younger, of course if I had kept with it I think I would have done a better job but I never got the chance too. She passed away before I hit my teens and no one in the family does cake work like she used to.

Hey this is great. Maybe you should become a professional cake decorator. If you have gotten this far on your own, could you imagine what you could do with a wee bit more training. WOW I am impressed.

you said you are not a professional baker, but t seems you are a professionist indeed!!! What a gorgeous cake!!! And as i said in the comment to the picture I am sure it tasted good, too. Here in Italy we are not used to have parents or relatives preparing cakes for the wedding. we buy it ..it is part of the catering service. But I think it would be great having your wedding cake made by your mother or mother in law..a good idea,,to take into account..have I ever to marry I will ask to my mother to prepare the cake!!!! But this is never happening, he he!!! Congratulations on your cake and on your son's wedding. I am sending the best wishes to this new couple...

It looks pretty, i think your son loved it. very good job elusivebutterfly. Even if you said it's simple it still looks great specially if you really made it just for your son's wedding, that adds meaning to it. Congratulations and best wishes for the new couple! :)

It was truly an honor. I was a bit nervous about it even though I have made many cakes in my lifetime.

I can understand you being nervous because you wanted it to be perfect for your son and daughter in law, but It really did look great. People that do the cakes professionally go to classes for them, I believe, but you really did do a great job.

Sometimes simple is the very best, especially if it is done with love. My daughter's friend baked her cake, and also sang at the wedding. It sounds like it must have tasted wonderful. Did you help with any other part of the reception? I always like to hear about wedding food. I commend you for looking at regular things and seeing them with special eyes, it makes a very unique experience. I wish them many happy moments.

I made most of the food for the reception. Some of my family brought a dish to share. It was a great day.

I am glad it turned out and with the modifications of artificial flowers etc it should be a nice momento for the couple. I am impressed also since it does take some time and talent to put this together and share with a group. Thanks for sharing it with us here at this site.

This turned out very nice! You should be very proud of yourself- It’s always nice to be able to make things from the heart instead of buying- I bet your son and his new wife loved it! I’m lucky one of my closest friends- is a certified baker- She makes all of our cakes and such- They are the best- I love raspberry filling- but I bet the chocolate filling was great too!

That is so beautiful. Omgosh it sounds so yummy too with the butter cream icing. Did your son and his wife keep the top of it for their first year anniversary? And what a great idea for the topper by using something from the dollar store! Now I would of never thought to do that. I will have to remember that idea. I paid over thirty dollars 23 years ago for my cake topper.

I looked high and low for an inexpensive cake topper. The last store I shopped had everything I needed. I spent $15 for decorations and it included the topper.

They did keep the top for their first anniversary. I hope the kids don't find it and decide to eat it!
