Why do you go to school? To socialize or to learn?

I must admit. Sometimes I don't attend classes if I don't like my classmates.
Most students are in school to have more friends. I'm not quite friendly but most people know me.
When you go to school, do you think about the lessons you are about to learn or seeing your friends and chatting?

I would admit that going to school is for both . Getting yourself educated and also enjoy lots of fun with your peer groups. It's educating as well as socializing in school life .

Most important purpose of going to school is to learn and not to socialize. Socializing should be an extracurricular activity.
Schools are for spreading knowledge and education. They should be used only for that purpose. One can make friends and do other things also, but one should never deviate from the main purpose of education.
Education is what one needs in latter life. It is needed in order to live a successful life, make a career and get a job and become a productive citizen. Other things follow.

Hi, argie713, When I was studying in school I had one or two close friends with whom I used to interact otherwise I was most interested in my studies. For the reasons unknown to me today also I do not interact with people much. I try to keep myself aloof from others and I love to lead a secluded life.

I go to learn. My interest is in American Sign Language. Getting distracted in college can put a serious cramp in one's style. And since my main course is entirely visual, it's got to be all eyes on the instructor at all times.

I love it. I am originally from Fremont, which happens to be home to the Northern California School for the Deaf. I've always been intrigued by it; I've always wanted to understand it. I also tend to be more of an aural learner than a visual learner. I figure that learning ASL could help me build up one of my weak points and make me a little better rounded. :)

It's a combination of many things sugar. Leaning, socializing, and disapline. So, just enjoy it. You will be out of there in no time, and need the skills you aquired to get a long in the adult world.

School is meant for learning. Having paid the fees for books, housing and whatever else, it is showing the world that you are worthy of a chance at a job. Being social is all well and good however the learning you need to get the best grades takes effort for the best jobs in the future. Balance would call for some parties, pizza night and the occassional girl night out. Dating is one thing that can sabotage your environment. You paid for those classes so to blow them off is like shooting yourself in the foot. There are many people that would love to be in college and cannot afford it so I would hope that you learn to appreciate this opportunity that is part of your life. Good luck with this.

I go to school to learn and further my education. I want to get to the point where when I get a degree, I can get a job that will support me, but also be one I can do even with my health problems. I guess it is a means to an end, but I make the most of it. Meeting people is a bonus, but not why I attend my classes at college. I have to say lately though, most of my classes have been online because I couldn't consistently make it to on campus classes. : )

I used to go to learn.
I think we all should because it would allow us to do better in life and have a brighter future. Both are important as such but I wouldn't waste my time again socializing myself with others :)
Most aren't in my life now so it's wasted time.

LOL. Why do I go to school? I go to school because it was compulsory by law. In Singapore, all children need to attend basic education, at least for 6 years before they proceed to further education. Subsequently, I continue studying because studying life is still the best compared to working life. If I can afford it, I would not mind studying 2 more discipline.

I've asked this question myself many times. If I tell the truth, i don't care about the lessons or about the knowledge i should get from school. When i'm at school i think about where will we go after school with friends, or what am i going to do today in school so it won't be so borring. I go to school because i "have to". Well i don't really have to, i can drop out if i want, but most of people my age go to school, that's why i do too.

I go to school just to learn and not to socialise. I find socialising a bit hard. In my current school I go there in the morning and after my studies I just go home. Sometimes i don't talk to anyone through out the day. Somehow it has helped me remained focused on what I am there for. but once in a while, i would socialise with the very few friends i have their

well, most people go to school because they want a better job and better future, but in my view, schooling does not necessarily result in good job, because nowadays, experience or application is more important than school learning, so just don't learn something which is bound to forget, but train your ability, so you can succeed in today's society!

I go to school because I have to. There is nothing fun about school. It's so boring. I just wanted to get it over with, so I went to school, do a good job, so that I don't have to repeat it again. No fun in doing a bad job and have to repeat the grade again. I hate waking up so early in the morning, catch the bus and go to school.

When my parens sent me to school, I'm sure they did it so that I could learn.
I attended college for the same reason, too learn.
However, I returned to college to pursue my advanced degree for both of those reason, to learn and to socialze - to network - help further my future goals in Public Policy......

During highschool and college, what i have in mind when i go to school is to learn and at the same time enjoy socializing with my friends. Going to school is a process of growing up with friends so we must not only be sticking to learn and study but also to mingle with other people. All work and no play makes jill a dull girl.

Are you talking about college? If so, that's an awfully expensive way to make friends. I would hope you would go to learn, but that's just my opinion, coming from a mother who supported her child's education.

Well, to learn...most of it I actually know by common sense and process of elimination. I'm no genius, I just need to know the terms so I can sound proper when I graduate unto my occupation.
It's actually a getaway for me. My family cannot stand me. They yell and hit and throw and yell some more. So school hours are safe hours for me.
