I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, sometimes known as the Earthquake Country. We had our share of earthquakes, most notably were the 1906 San Francisco earthquake that claimed 3000 lives and then the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. Before coming to the US, I grew up in the Philippines, a country that has had its share of earthquakes, mudslides, etc. I remember my parents always telling us to go under the table etc. Now after new researches has been done, it may not be safe to go under your table...easiest and maybe safest is to rush outside as fast as you can. Here in SF, we always get ourselves ready for the next BIG ONE, by stocking up on bottled water, first aid kits, canned goods, charcoal for cooking etc. My husband, daughter and I conduct emergency drills once every 6 months so we can practice where to meet, what to grab first etc. It is said that any city may expeience some form of calamity, may it be earthquakes, floods, hurricane, etc. Question is are you ready?
