I'm sitting here listening to the audiobook of "Life, the Universe and Everything" while posting here on myLot... and to say the least chuckling every few minutes.
He was one of the funniest writers I've ever read and I love all his writings. While I've also read all his books, the great thing about his audiobooks is he reads most of them himself! To hear an author read his own works and hearing all the vocal inflections exactly how he meant them instead of interpreting them yourself or interpreted by someone else is just wonderful. It doesn't happen too often. I also have "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Restaurant at the End of the Universe" on audiobook also read by Douglas himself.
Have you ever read anything by Douglas Adams? If you haven't yet and you like humor I highly recommend you read his works. Do you have a favorite writer who's humor just cracks you up?

Yes, I do enjoy Douglas Adams, I have two of his books, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and the Long Dark Teabreak of the Soul and I enjoy re reading them immensely. The main relevance to me is that endless room of computer all screens all trying to fathom out how the sofa got stuff on the stairs lol. Very like my home here, where we are packed to the rafters. Unfortunately we don't have a time machine available to fix things though.

I can sympathize with the "stacked to the rafters" comment. Same here! Wouldn't it be great to have a machine that could take care of all those little annoyances! LOL

Oh yes! I like the horse as well! It seems such a dry old stick, patiently nibbling any decent grass it can find and tolerating the monk lol.

I thought that DGHDA was as good as the Hitchhikers series, and thats saying something. Also for a stripped down and totally hilarious experience get The Meaning of Liff a strange look at place names and their possible alternative derivations. A brilliant, brilliant mind.

I absolutely love Douglas Adams! Whenever anyone makes a Hitchhiker's Guide reference, they automatically get a ton of cool points with me!
I have not heard the Douglas Adams version of the audiobooks. I really liked the BBC version, though. Listening to them is something I really enjoy doing.
Where I used to live, there were picnics once or twice a year to celebrate Douglas Adams. I never attended one, but I always smiled when I saw the signs. I thought it was a neat way to celebrate a great author.

I would have to say CS Lewis and his Chronicles of Narian books do have some humors in them and I love reading them. But, I never have read anything by Douglas Adam at all. I will check him out sometimes, thanks for the information.

If you are a big fan of Douglas Adams then you need to take a look at Terry Pratchett. He's got the same kind of dry humor and tendency toward the absurd. I wouldn't recommend diving right into Discworld as the first foray into Pratchett, but start with Good Omens that he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman. It is a Truly brilliant look at Armageddon.

Yes I also have all of Terry Pratchett's books too! An awesome fantasy world he's created. Discworld is my favorite.
