A friend of mine sent me the link to a website called: http://www.helpmybabylive.com/
Basically, it's a couple who have decided that they need $50,000 to raise the child that the woman is pregnant with. If they don't come up with that money (via donations from kind people on the Internet) they will abort the baby and then claim that any money raised will go to a charity.
Aside from the morality issues that are being raised here, what about the fact that this is probably a scam? A well-thought out plan executed by someone who has too much time on their hands and is preying on the good intentions of all those pro-lifers out there?
Check the site out and then post some of your opinions here.

Quite honestly, I think that is horrible and they should be exposed for the frauds that they are. Who on Earth would sit there and put a price on their child and expose it telling the all of the world wide web that if they don't get a certain amount of money, they will abort?
I think that person created to prey on people's thoughts and feelings of abort and being stuck in a hard situation.
Maybe I should create a website that takes donations with a deadline saying that if we don't get the $250k that covers the life insurance, I will have to throw myself in front of a train to get my family the money.
Sorry...but this is just horrible and should be against the law.

I agree with you, they should be exposed and brought to some kind of justice. But according to the FAQ's on the page, there is no way of telling who created the website since it's hosted by a third party who doesn't even know the identity of the people that they built the site for.

OMG, that makes me very sick! This is actually real people doing this? How could you even think up such a dumb thing? It's a scam! I believe that 100%. What makes me even more mad about it is that people have actually donated $12,000+ to them. What in the heck is wrong with people? Obviously, some people have more money than brains. Any person who has at least one brain cell in the head would know not to give money to this idiots. Sorry that just really made me mad!!

oh my god! this has to be a scam. if it not i feel very bad for this child. why in the world would someone do this if its not a scam. all of us with kids know that it cost a lot and its hard but wouldn't trade it for anything. i can't beleive people are giving them money. its hard to beleive their are people out there busting their butts to raise a family and still don't have enough and then you have these people that most have to much and don't think twice about giving it to a couplke of scammers.

This site is sad. I really hope it is a scam. For somone to put a price on a babys life is horrible. It seems shady either way. I would never donate to this site or any like it. I cna believe they have already raised over $10,000. Who is giving these people money?

I would never donate them money, even if it is true, it equates to emotional blackmail.
I don't believe in abortion, and it's hard for me to comprehend that someone would hang their child's life in the balance over money. I think this is a scam.

It's a scam and a pretty distasteful one at that. It never ceases to amaze me the depths people will sink to in order to make some money - I mean why not try actually working for a living? Although what amazes me even more is that people will actually be dumb enough to send these losers money.

As I mentioned before, I don't think people are really sending money out of the kindness of their hearts. I think the people who have actually sent money are the pro-lifers that are doing it begrudgingly because they would rather lose a few bucks (even if it may be a scam) than see a baby get aborted.

Talk about a total scam. They are playing on people's emotions hoping to get them to ante up and give them money. That is emotional blackmail and they are playing on that hoping to get money an nice easy way. What gets me are the people who fall for it. I doubt they have actually raised that much money as they state on there, it's just a number to try and get others to contribute. "OMG they aren't close enough I'll add to it" type thing.
If you want to complain about the site go to http://whois.net and look up the domain info, there is a link at the bottom for godaddy.com to get their full information on who owns it. But if you get the main info from there you can complain to the host company which is godaddy.com. Don't know if it would help but it might.

You are quite welcome. I went there and got the godaddy link at the bottom and was able to from there get their mailing address and information on the people who bought the hosting and domain name. I'm the most computer savvy person out there so if I can do this then the cops can and personally I think they should be checking into sites like that.

If they think the kids not going to find out; they're stupid. This is the age of the internet and other media forms. I feel sorry for this kid if it gets born (which of course better than being aborted). $50,000 is rediculous amount to raise a kid and there's Medicaid and other programs as well. These people should look into that rather than asking for money on the net. It would be more stainable, I think.

Wow that is a bit rude isnt it! I imagine that they will get donations from people who dont realise that it is a scam and dont want them to have an abortion!! I wonder how much money they will make!! It is so sad that people do these sort of things to con money out of people. Do I feel guilty for not donating money and the woman being forced into an abortion....... nope that is their choice...... I have a beautiful daughter and I do not accept money from anyone else to help me raise her, my partner and I do it all on our own, we are on a low income and we can do it....

I agree, I don't think there is ever a "right" time to have a baby. Something will always come up that needs your attention, your money, or your time. If everyone waited for the "right" time to have a child, no one would ever have children.
As far as the cost of raising a child, there are many community resources out there for couples who have a low income. It's just a matter of getting off your butt and putting your pride aside to ask for help.

I think that Im actually in SHock if anything. No I wouldnt donate money to them. I cant believe that they actually are looking at 2 options, ABORTION or INTERNET Donations!!! Weird. Thats what actually makes me think it is a scam. But what if it is not. There are some REALLY weird sick people out there. If it isnt a scam, then maby the baby should be aborted anyways...could u imagine the life it would have?

I have mixed feelings about this situation. From my own stand point- I've decided not to have children for the mere fact that I know I can't afford to give that child a "better" life than I had- at least not at this time. That is a concious and responsible decision I made and I am proud of myself for being a realist about the situation. Now although I do feel it does take money to raise a child- that is not the ONLY thing it takes. Monetary value of a child is only but 25% of what it takes to raise a well-rounded and successful child. These people are playing on the sentiments of pro-lifers (which I am not)- which I think is very rude on thier part- BUT- if people are actually falling for it- and sending donations- who am I to hate on them- you know how the saying goes- don't hate the player- hate the game! If there are people out there stupid enough to fall for this- then this couple deserves every dime they collect!

This is really pitiful. The web is used for all types of scams. They should be ashamed of themselves. It is not our responsibility, its theirs. They need to take responsibility. They know what leads to this. Takes some precautions or get a job and provide for your family!! The sad thing is that there will be someone on Dr. Phil or Tyra saying that they are good hearted people who got taken advantage of by these people. It won't be me!

I found myself totally outraged reading this. I think its a scam but I can't be sure. And if so then its really sad that they put a price on a child, for it to live or die. Sickening actually. I think if it is true this couple has moral issues and what happens if they have another ooopsie?

OMG my hubby says it sounds like a form of blackmail, give me money or ill kill the kid.
what kind of people are these guys. these people arent qualified ever to raise a child. sounds like they are trying for an easy way out. i have never truely wished something was a scam more than this website, otherwise these people in my opinion have already proved unfit parents.
