Happiness - not a Destination, but a Joruney

Our experience always tells us to postpone our happiness, even though we do not consciously set out to do so, but we keep convincing ourselves, "someday I'll be happy". We tell ourselves we'll be happy when our bills are paid, when we get out of college, get the first job, a promotion, a family, etc.
The we are frustrated that the kids are not old enough and we tell ourselves that we will be content when they are. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or act together, when we have a nice car, are able to go on a vacation, when we retire. The truth is that there is no better time to be happy than right now! If not now, the when?

Yes, indeed, happiness could never be found in the destination but rather in the journey itself. Happiness could never be found tomorrow but today! Happiness is within deep inside all of us -- it is internal rather than external in nature. Finding one is never easy, of course. But we have to find it in the right place or else we could end up in the wrong pond or barking the wrong tree.

What a coincidence. I received an email yesterday about this same topic. It was really uplifting and talked about how happiness is a journey and not a destination. It pointed out that the time to be happy is now and there is no need to keep postponing it saying things like I will be happy when I graduate, when I get a job, when i get a car, when make a lot of money, etc. It says you just have to seize the moment and be happy and keep being happy as you go through life.

"Happiness is a brave decision." I saw that spray painted on the sidewalk once. I have quoted it ever since, and believe it fully.:)

You are exactly right. Now is the only time we can be happy. And I feel it is a choice we can make from the inside out. Waitng for outside circustances to be right so that we can be happy is a waste of time. Nothing from the outside can provide true or lasting happiness. We can be happy from the inside first and then we are free to enjoy what the outside world has to offer. And nothing from the outside world has to destroy our happiness.

that's an interesting subject.i think we should enjoy the moment right now and not wait for a better moment to come.happiness is made by little things.thinking too much to our future is a waste of time,a waste of life.
carpe diem!

Mans desire is never ending, and desire is the main cause for un happiness. When stops his desires and be content with whatever god has given he will find the real happiness for ever.

There is never ending to human wants. Time, energy and money are absued through selfishness and although temporary happiness may be experience, unhappiness is actually increasing. Until this is realised, there can be no solution. Let us be humble to our daily needs and be satisfied with what God has given.

I guess you are right... Most of the time we think of the future... the bnefits that we will have in the future, the life we will have in the future but we never realize that we're wasting the present!
I often here with my friends... that "someday you and your kids will be happy..., someday your husband will come back to you and you will be happy, someday your kids will be happy" I asked them always...what if not? What if my husband do not come back to us. Are we going to wait all our life (FYI: my husband is already living with another woman) I believe that the person my kids will become in the future depends on their experiece... on their journey in their adult life... And I dont want to waste the life of my kids and their chance to have a family by waiting for someone who never cares.
I guess if we can be happy right now... why wait? Happiness is not always expensive.... contentment is not always the fulfillment of what we want... sometimes its the realization of how blessed you are for what you already have.

I agree wit you that "the truth is that there is no better time to be happy than right now".
I am very happy becouse I have no car and also have no worries about my car. No danger of its stealing, no need of its fule.
A person lost his shoe, but when he saw that another has no foot. Then he came to know that he is better than that, who had no foot.
The pigion said coo. What shall I do. I have not enogh food. For a family of two.
"Foolish bird" said the hen. My family are ten, and we are living like gentlemen.
All of the happiness in this world are temporary. None and nothing is stable and permanent. Then why we become worried about ordinary or temporary happiness.
Belive me rich people are more worried about their possessions than those, who are called poor.

yes... well happiness is what you fell at a certain situation... if we are happy now... then we are happy... sometimes we find it that when we are happy now, the next hour would be sad time... happiness is what we always fell inside and outside... its not what we want to fell...

Happiness is the state of mind where we do not hurt anyone's feelings. It is said "neither give sorrow, not take sorrow" In other words, although we may not hurt someone's feelings, others may insult us and rob us of our happiness. We may be affected for a few moments but we should immediately bounce back and have only good wishes for that person.

hello zandi nice posting :) for me happiness depends on how contented we are and also live the way that didnt cause us much trouble and anxiety tho, those things are unavoidable, sometimes too much of a goal can get us frustrated but things are meant on its own time, sometimes it doesnt work today maybe it is better for tomorrow...all we have to do is stay optimistic and hopeful day by day..live life to the fullest not to the foolest...happiness is a broad feeling,we are happy in big things and also with small things, whats important is we are happy to the things that lasts.

i believe that happiness cannot be found anywhere else but in the present. and i also believe that it doesn't just "happen"; people have to DECIDE to be happy, CHOOSE to be happy, and WORK at being happy. sometimes all it takes is training yourself to smile even when there is nothing to smile about. it's hard, but we'll get there if we just try. :)

yes, when asked "are you happy",we always think those significant moments, but actually happiness is sometimes some little things.for example, when your call righs,it means that someone is thinking of you.happiness is not what you want to get,but enjoy what you have.
