What is the riskiest thing you have ever bought on ebay?

One of my friends got engaged last year and purchased his engagement ring on ebay. This seemed very bizarre to me but has worked out real well for him. He ended up only paying $500 for a ring that he got appraised for $1300. I'm still not convinced that buying anything like a diamond is real smart on a site such as ebay.

That was kind of risky on your friends part. The most risky thing I purchased was an old digitech effects processor that is a rack unit for guitar. It cost me around $500 and since it was so old there was no way to no for sure what condition it would be in, or if it would truly work. Thankfully it worked just fine and still going strong today. This was before the insurance and buyers protection that they offer now.

I would be very leary of buying a diamond or any other jewelry on Ebay. I like to look at it first. Sometimes a picture doesn't do justice or the other way around. It seems like he got a good deal though. My oldest daughter bought her wedding dress off of Ebay. I was furious but it was the dress she wanted and it fit like a glove everywhere but the length. Ended up being a bargain compared to retail prices at a bridal shop. I guess some people have more adventure and trust?

wow, that was truly risky...but to be honest, i think that buying anything on ebay is risky...all you see is a picture..you really dont know what it looks like/feels like etc...and then there is shipping, who knows if it will get lost in the mail? good for him tho!!

Wow...that's amazing and a really good deal for your friend. To be honest, I'm not much of a risk taker. My Dad however...he once wanted to buy a motor boat off ebay. Thing was, you have to have a certain amount of feedback to even vote on it. He didn't have it, but I did! He wanted me to bid on it for him. I really wasn't comfotable with that, but agreed that we could watch the auction and talk about it as it got closer to being done. Thankfully it went past his price point, so this never really became an issue. but I thought bidding on a boat was pretty risky and I din't want to do it with my account, that's for sure.

I bought a laptop computer, but is was from an off lease seller. Buying large $ items need to be paid with PayPal and purchase the guarantee.
