Would you ever buy pillows from a second hand store?

Not ashamed to admit, that I'm not a rich person. Not like I've never had money, but the finances have been tight since the baby came along. She's my most recent investment! Anyway, being on a limited budget, means that I shop at second hand shops a lot. And, while I've bought lots of things second hand, I've never bought a pillow at a second hand shop or thrift store. Just haven't wanted to. Would you buy a pillow at a second hand shop. Do you think it would be clean?

beautyqueen there is nothing to be ashamed about. I don't care what people will say if I buy anything second hand, since it's what I can afford and as long as the item is clean I don't see why I can't use it. If not second hand then I go to dollar store. I wouldn't mind buying second hand pillow, as long as it still looks good and doesn't smell too mushy. after you buy, wash it with water and bleach, then dry it under the sun. your pillow will look and smell better and cleaner.

Even if you washed it, you would always wonder, too!

I love thrift stores, and have bought all manner of things at them; but I do agree that I would not buy a bed pillow from one. Sometimes the Goodwill store will get overstock items from stores like Target, etc that still have the bags and tags on them, in which case I might buy one, but not a straight up used pillow. I don't even bother washing my used pillows to clean them, since they always end up lumpy and uncomfortable. I will shell out the etra few bucks for a new one every year or so from the store.

I've seen really decent looking brand new pillows for $5.00 at the local dollar general/family dollar store. I always wonder why people don't just buy those before a used bed pillow. You're only going to use a few and it's not like you'd replace them every month. So not so much a big investment.

I too am not a rich person and I don’t see any shame in admitting it! I love to go to garage sales and second hand stores. In fact, I have managed to furnish most of my home and get my computer from a thrift shop.
I feel that a pillow is one thing that I wouldn’t buy. I have to air out my pillows twice a week under the sun, just to get that crisp clean smell to it again, I can’t imagine buying someone else’s pillow…lol..
That would freak me out! I don’t think that I could even air it out nor take the time to wash it! To me, under wears and bras are items that are too personal and we would never buy second hand, I feel that pillows fall along the lines of such person

I actually have both throw pillows at a thrift store, I remove the outer layer and use the stuffing to make a new pillow. I ran it into the dryer first and then I spray on fabreeze.

I would buy decorative pillows second hand. I mean the kind that are to add a spot of color or decoration to a room by putting it on the sofa or bed. I would wash them first though. I wouldn't buy a used secondhand pillow that is for sleeping on with my head on the bed. WalMart has brand new ones for $5 and sometimes even cheaper than that so there is no need to buy them used.

We live on a fixed income and will never be rich in money...but what we lack that way we make up in happiness...
I do buy several things second hand...but never something so personal as a pillow or under garments...I just do not think I could sterilize them enough to feel secure with my family using these items....

I am also a one without much money, and I can accept the old things from some other friends .
if they give up something due to room absence or they buy the new ones, I can get them without any shame.
but I never buy pillows from a second hand store, as there really so little second hand store here.
I can get the old things from friends, and I think no one will sell the old pillows to a second hand store in our area.
but I can find some good things other than pillows in a second hand store, and I don't mind it is a second-hand thing if I like it . but I didn't buy anything from a second-hand store .
the old things is enough for me .

Ofcourse no! if my money isn't that much i'll just wait for a sale at the department store..your health is at risk specially your baby because some bacteria may live there from the old owner..unlike clothes you can wash them thoroughly..so please don't..

No, I just can't let myself do that. I also will not buy any kind of linens (sheets, comforters, etc) or bath towels. The thought of it really grosses me out. I also would not buy them at garage sales or auctions.
I went to a garage sale once where someone was selling a box of used tighty whitey men's underwear! I was embarrassed for the sellers and left the garage sale! No way would I consider buying used underwear!

I don't buy much at second hand stores. Not that I'm too good to, or anything. I just can't bring myself to do it. And, pillows is one of those things that has so much potential to be really icky. Just my opinion.

I dont think I would. What if the person had lice before you bought it??? Its kind of gross. I guess if it had been washed and I was desperate.

I shop at second hand stores, but I just can't imagine buying a pillow from one. No matter how clean it looked, and even if I washed it, I don't think I could stand to sleep on it.
I bought our pillows at a dollar store, for three dollars a piece, in this case I would rather buy new.

I'm not rich either and I can afford to shop at most stores, but since I like to be thrifty I have shopped at rummage sales, garage sales and thrift shops. There are certain things that I would not buy though and pillows would be one of them. I just bought a very nice pillow in Walmart for around three dollars so you can shop new and still be frugral where it matters most.
