Why the No 10 Blue Star is so elusive?

I sometimes wonder why some people can hang on to their blue stars when some lose it as soon as they got it. I have on several occassions had my star turned blue but to lose it again the very next day. It is as if they have mistakenly bestowed it on me and take it back immediately. I do not understand the game played here. I did not ask but received it in good faith. When it is taken away it is very demoralizing. I would rather be where I am than enjoy the short lived joy. Does that ever happen to you?

I do understand how you feel. So far I have been consistent with the blue star but as for my ratings, it has been fluctuating. Or to describe it as it really is, going down. I once reached 100 points and I was so happy I made a post about it. As soon as it was posted, I went back 1 grade down. Ugh! As for the blue star I am not so sure about how it works, I think consistency in mylot helps.

The red star remains strong in me so better not getting blue star and taken away when I am already comfortable with it.

I don't worry about my star rating. It goes up and down once in a while which means someone didn't like what I had to say. I don't think any less of a person because they have a 1 or a 10. I think they have the star rating system set up wrong. You can go into any post and rate anyone you want and to me that is not right. You should only be able to rate on your own discussions that you start and people that respond should only be able to rate the person that started the discussion. Something like that anyway...

There should have an independent jury to rate and not be open to mylot members.

Hi, I do hope you'll cheer up. :) I've tried to share some tips on how to get/maintain the No 10 blue star rating on another discussion topic. I do hope it helps you. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1164523.aspx Yes, I've also encountered having the No. 10 blue star taken away and being replaced by other stars. I know it's awful. I'm sure that there are many others who have to go through this too. Meanwhile, I've also tried to give you some positive ratings here so that should help too! :)

Thank you for your encouragment. The minute I post this discussion my rating went down from 95 to 94. So I believe it has something to do with the topic being discussed besides the negative ratings I got from other mylotters. Well, I don't take it that seriously but I am only puzzled it happened almost immediately when my star turns blue. I am off for a few weeks and I hope when I come back it will not turn grey.lol

No, it hasn't happened to me (I should probably say 'yet') but it did seem to take me forever to get it. I was a red 9 for ages. It was funny, but when I stopped even thinking about it I looked up one day and it was blue. Funny how that happens.

Your friends need to plus sign you more. It is something that does not affect your score and is meant to motivate however it is misused. You never really know if it is laziness on your friends parts or evil touching your responses and discussions. There are those the take glee in reducing some of us to lowly stars. Good luck in learning to ignore it and do what you do so well.

It's happened a few times to me now. Maybe someone or somebody didn't like a comment I made, who knows. I've just dropped again for about the fourth time in the last six weeks. Ohhh well, never mind.

You have that problem too.? I guess we can hope ehhhh. My problem is I can be rather ... forthright in my opinions, and some times that's not taken too well by a lot of people.

That is strange. I haven't lost my blue star since I first got it - now watch I'll lose it tomorrow. I was very disappointed as silly as it seems but at one time I had a 99/100 rating then it dropped to 98 and I can't for the life of me get it back up to 99... I'm just thankful for my blue star now as it is one of the prettier colors in my book.

I think you are right it's easier not knowing what you are missing if you never had it :) And thank you - blue is one of those colors that it doesn't matter what shade I like it and can wear it.

Probably it is better not to have it at all then having it taken away soon after. I hope it does not happen to you for saying this out now. You look nice in blue. I hope it will stick on to you.

i dont even try to understand my lots reasons for dxoing thinks anymore it is beyond me for instance why remove a simple joke that is amusing and offends no one?theyve done this before !and as for the rating system it would be easier to learn chineese that try to understand that !

Jokes should be fun but if you post jokes mylot police will quickly report it and the jokes would be deleted. I can't understand how the rating goes. I don't want to bother about it now. I will be away for longer time and I hope my star will not drop further for inactivity.

It happened to me actually. I have never reached yet the coveted number 10 but I reached the number 9 but I lose it later. I could not understand why is this so. However, I just don't mind the stars, the most important thing is to contribute more and more discussions and replies because that's where I think the earnings is based, right? Maybe the stars are just there to make the site cuter and a little more exciting!

when i first had a star it was an 8, a few days later it went to 9, a few more days and it became a 10. fortunately for me, i got stuck with it. but i was always on my toes at 95/100 coz it's the brink of being a 9 and a 10. whenever i respond to a new user, i tend to promote the use of the ratings. i think it is a must for every user to use this feature because it helps other mylot users to be responsible in the posts. indirectly, it might help in improving the earnings too. i only do a few posts each time i log in at mylot. and the discussions i respond to are very selected. coz i'd rather do 1 quality post than do 5 so-so posts which would earn me the same thing. i want to share 1 tip. when you are an 8-10 star mylot user, that means a lot of other users find your post of quality. be selective. select only quality discussions (by new or old users)to respond to, of which you share the same interests. request friends that start quality discussions or those who give quality responses. those who have reached 8-10 stars are more often the ones who religiously rate other users too. i, for one, only give positive ratings to almost all of the responses i receive, provided that their responses are at least related to the topic i started. if the response is totally out of this world, i simply leave the ratings blank. i don't want to put a negative mark, ever. i have made 2 abuse ratings on 2 other users because they copied the response of another mylot user in my discussion, that was so rude and disrespectful. don't be disheartened with the fluctuating mylot star rating. it does not necessarily mean that other users give you a negative rating. more often, some users do not rate discussions and responses at all. some don't even provide comments in their own discussions... making the discussion a Q & A. my theory is: our ratings reflect a percentage of positive ratings over the total posts... only if we receive the positive ratings. unmarked, doesn't count. so most probably, most of your responders do not rate your discussion or most of the users, who started the discussions you responded to, do not make a habit of giving ratings. still, 94/100 is still a pretty good rating. :) continue to enjoy and goodluck! :)

that does happen a lot. :) if it is just but one post, you can surely make more posts to make up for it. but don't let this negative effect in your rating change whatever your opinion is on the matter. i do hope that more and more people would respect the difference of opinions that users can have. putting a negative mark on someone's post coz of differing opinions is simply shallow or a bit immature. goodluck on your next "hot" discussion. :)

Thank you for your well explained response. I had my rating 95/100 and when this post was submitted yesteday it went down to 94/100. I fear it will slide further down because one of my post yesterday that hit 'hot' discussion went into volcanic eruption. I was myself very surprised this has angered some people. It is a fairly normal case in my country and thought it would not cause contraversy but it was alarming how they view things putting me in hot soup. I guess the western and asian mentality are miles apart but am open to everybody's opinion as they have the right to their own opinion. But this is what mylot is all about. Its works on varied opinion. We can never know the outcome of our discussions here. It can hit rock bottom with no response and it can sometimes trigger emotion which can create an argumentative issue. In the end it is where all the excitment lies. I love to be here for that reason.

Let me say first that I never had a blue star. I started with a white star and now it is red. To me the solution to the problem that you mention is very obvious. The star rating is a percentage of the positive votes. You have relativly few posts. If - let`s say you get two negative votes with your 8oo posts, then a person who has 8000 posts it would take twenty negative votes to get them to a red star. The star rating is in the relation of positive votes to the amount of posts. So if you would post a lot more it would not matter so much if you got a negative rating. The star rating fluctuates most for beginners and this is why there is not star before one hundred posts.

Well when I reached my 100th post my rating was a 3. The next day i climbed to 4. The day after that I climbed to 5. The following day after that I reached a whooping 7. And finally after that day, I got to 9. Since then I have remained on 9 and have not moved one bit. I guess you know what they say, when you reach the top, there is no where else to go but down. So may be it is better not to go up to 10 after all.

Surprise, surprise. I got a 10 star rating today. I really never expected it. The question now is how long would it last. You know what they; once you reach the top there is nowhere else to go but down.

Been pestered with this doubt for a long time. Some atrocious discussion makers are bestowed 10.But invariably all their discussions are lengthy. If this is the lonly criteria I am not for it.I am happy with my position and friends here. But I strongly feel that the quality discussions must be encouraged by my lot every now and then.

I think it has a lot to do with the ratings. If someone rated + it is a good thing. If someone liked what you said in ohter discussion they would rated you.

I have had a blue star more or less since I got a star and while it is nice it isn't the be all and end all zandi! I am not sure why some of manage to keep a blue star and others don't but I sincerely believe that it doesn't mean you are any better or worse cos you have a 10 star or a 5 star! Don't let it get you down zandi - in the grand scheme of things it is not important - just enjoy the community! xxx

i have my blue star for more than two months now and i just feel normal. i could say that i am happy about it but i am much happier with my friends around here.i am enjoying with their discussions and i feel i am blessed and thankful to see them around responding and exchanging thoughts with you. i am not alone somehow. personally,it doesn't matter to me whatever be the color of my star as long as i earn a little and have friends around to hang out. btw,i never rated (-) to anyone here so far and i do not intend to use it anyways.
