When I discovered I had high blood pressure, I was taking St. John's Wort. I had no idea it was making my blood pressure go up. Here is a list of herbs that make your blood pressure go up. This list is from the Mayo Clinic website.
Bitter Orange
Ginseng
Licorice
St. John's Wort
Ephedra (ma-huang) Also found in decongestants.
I didn't know I was making my condition worse. I just wanted to share this information.

That's very good information. A lot of people think that just because it's herbal it won't harm us at all, but herbs even medicinal ones - specially medicinal ones - do have side effects like other medications. And some can be very serious.
The main point is that people need to ask questions, research and do their homework before taking herbal remedies - the same as with any medication.

I knew about Ephedra and Ginseng but was surprised about St John's Wort...and Licorice. Wow, I have used Licorice in herbal tea for sweetness. I guess I will start using Stevia instead. Thanks for your info.

Like your medicines you must know what the herb is and the family and other information. You should also know what the foods you eat do to your body also. We are people who thrive on balance and herbs can lend themselves to balancing us in times of stress and ailmant. St John's Wort also makes you sun sensitive. Did you know that?
Anyway, being an informed person is what enables to live a more comfortable and healthy life over all. Thanks for sharing this. I hope you learn about all you ingest in the future.
