Have you ever seen a sky so beautiful, so perfect that it just about took your breath away?
Did you see that perfect sky from your own back yard, or a vacation destination? Do you stop what you're doing to revel in the beauty? Or take it in stride?
Hubby & I joke about frequently seeing 'fake clouds'. Sometimes they're sooo perfect, that they just don't seem real. Instead, they look like a painting. Like the product of someones optimistic artistry, instead of just the sun peaking through water droplets.
So, what was the most perfect sky that you've ever seen?
(If you were able to capture the image, please feel free to share the picture. Thanks!)

Hello my lady, I have seen many skies and I love most of them. Yes they can be pretty pretty and quite breathtaking in their own rights.
However, I haven't really come across any picture perfect sky that will impress upon my memory so much so that it will stay with me always.
I quite like sceneries - given that I use them for wallpapers - however, no scenery has that effect of me yet. The closest would be the Grand Canyon when I was viewing down from the plane.
I only know that was beautiful but I can't recall exactly any images now. The Grand Canyon when captured on film is just different. I don't know what's different but it just doesn't look as great. :P

Hello Lordwarwizard,
Thanks so much for dropping by.
Wow, are you ever right about film not being able to capture the true essence of the Grand Canyon! I've seen it several times, from the air as well as the ground, and it never ceases to humble and amaze me. There's just something about the way that the rock and clay formation interacts with sunlight and shadows. Moreover, that it is constantly changing. It certainly reminds one of the power of flowing water and time!
It's funny that you mention not being able to recall a particular mental image of the Grand Canyon. I am not able to do so either. I suspect that it's just so overwhelming, that no one image can replace the sensations of enormity and awe. Do you think that's maybe why you aren't bringing up a single mental image of it?
Thanks for jogging such wonderful memories.

Hi, ladyluna.
I'm glad you shared my thoughts.
You're right. The night sky is mysterious and we can imagine anything as we like.
What a mystery it is!
Now it's nearly nine and it's cloudy so I can not share it with you. :(
But I still wish you could enjoy the night sky tonight.
I've to go now. Good night! Sweet dream! ^_^
See you tomorrow!

I had some experiences about observing sky. At Kanyakumari southern most tip of India, One should watch the sunsetting at a place where the indian ocean, Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal meet. It is most beautiful I have ever seen. I always sleep on my terrace and watch the sky at night.

I always love a clear blue sky in the fall. To me, I am always looking at the sky and I think it is always perfect. I have seen some great sunsets and sunrises. Even thunderstorms create beautiful skies. I like the cloud colors and the changing skies. I can imagine in your neck of the woods, the skies are somewhat different than here. You must be at a higher elevation and with less polution. Believe it ir not, one of my favorite skies features tornadoes. I find them fascinating. I know, most people fear them and hate the thought of them. I understand. Imagine if you were on Mars or Jupiter, the skies you would see would be spectacular to say the least.

Hello Sigma,
As I think about it, yes ... I do seem to recall that a clear October morning sky seems to be a little richer, a little bluer than -- say a June sky. I think its something about the blanket of cooler, moister air hugging the ground.
I'll have to admit that tornadoes scare the bejeebers out of me. I've only seen two in my lifetime -- and that's plenty! Although, there is something peculiar, almost eerie about a tornado sky. It's not the calm before the storm, it's a distinct greenish hue in the sky that always cues me into the threat of a tornado.
As for lightning skies ... well my friend, I'll say again, you really do need to visit out here again. We have some of the most amazing lightning-lit skies you can imagine. We had a real doozy Wednesday night. Wow, everywhere you looked was ablaze with lighting rods. Sideways, perpendicular, and just blasts of all-encompassing whites.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing. I always enjoy hearing your perspective.

Thanks Luna. You are more than kind. We seldom get much lightening or even thunderstorms like we did decades ago. That is what it seems to me. The only time I remember green skies was back in the late 70's when from out of the west came the blackest thunderstorm clouds I have ever seen. Once they were overhead, I could easily see the hues of green. It wasn't that much of a storm and not a tornado. Just freeky.

Great story. You have something in common with that darling little girl in the Wizard of Oz...what was her name...oh yeah, Dorothy. Sorry, that happens to be the name of an ex-wife and I am prone to forgetting it ...lol.
I have not seen a real tornado or funnel cloud except when I was very young and didn't really know what it was. We were at the beach when dark clouds approached and a funnel was forming. Our families picked up everything and ran to the cars, got loaded and drove quickly away using back roads. I would still like to see on for real, as long as it presents no danger. But that would require a great stroke of luck, I imagine.

My perfect sky moment came in the Outer Banks of North Carolina last year while on vacation. This beautiful photo was snapped by my daughter who loves to take pictures. The sunset over the bay was breathtaking and we were treated to this lovely sight every night that we were there. There's nothing more grounding than watching the sun set.

Hello Wachit14,
Wow, that is magnificent!.
Your daughter has quite an eye. And, how wonderful that your family was treated to this splendor, repeatedly. I agree that these moments are very grounding, and perhaps a bit humbling as well.
Thanks for sharing that spectacular moment in time.

Shooey ParaTed, that Utah snapshot is most certainly a picture perfect sky. Wow, the depth of the blue between the clouds is truly amazing. Were you in the deserts of Southern Utah on vacation? I've heard that there are some amazing hiking opportunities in Southern Utah. I haven't been myself. Although I really enjoyed visiting Northern Utah.
Yeah, Hubby and I are rather fond of admiring our beautiful NM skies. We're both originally from Upstate New York, so the vivid New Mexico skies are a fabulous treat for us.

Yeah, I was visiting my family at the time. My oldest brother, youngest brother and their families live in Southern Utah. My parents are retired and play the Sun Bird game between Northern and Southern Utah.
I have many great desert and mountain shots from there, this one is still my favorite.
If you'd like to see more of them, Email me. I know I'd like to see more of yours.

Hello Stella1989,
Yes, it is frustrating to realize that a perfect photo moment is upon us, and realize that we've forgotten the camera. I carry mine in my purse, for just such an occassion. Even so, sometimes the moment passes before I can get the camera out of it's case. Arrgghh! So, I certainly share your frustration when that happens.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello luna. After reading this thread, I realize that I need to go out often and enjoy the scenery surrounding me. There are many places here in my country that can take the breathe out of you.
Even passing through mountain ranges had its own beauty. There's this place called Manila Bay and tourists and locals alike always dropped by mid-afternoon to witness the sunset. It is a beauty to look at the changing colors of the sun as it goes down slowly.
Check out the picture I uploaded. You would agree that the sun is breathtaking.

Hello Nardz13,
Oh yes, ocean photo's can be truly amazing! The light reflecting off of the water just seems to make all the colors seem so rich and vibrant. You and your family are very fortunate to have land so closer to the ocean's edge. I imagine that you've seen many such fabulous skies from your perch atop the hill.
Thanks so much for sharing the mental image of your picture-perfect sky.

I was in Malmo Sweden about 10 years ago staying with friends. It was getting to be evening time and as we went outside to leave we noticed that there wasn't a cloud in the sky nor was it raining. But 2 huge vibrantly colored rainbows were in the sky right next to each other. It was really neat! May not have been a beautiful sunset over an ocean, but it was beautiful none the less.

I have seen a picture perfect sky a few times. Once was on a trip to Seattle. I was standing on the back of the ferry looking at the sun set. It looked so still and perfect that I actually did take a picture of it. Everytime I showed it to people they thought I bought it as a post card or something. If it didn't have the time stamp on the back of it I don't think anyone would have believed that I actually took it.

Hello devilsangel,
Nice of you to share your memory of your picture-perfect moment. Your description of it sounds as though it was quite a serene experience.
I know what you mean about some photo's being so perfect that they just don't seem as though they could have been captured by other than a professional photographer. Geesh, when I look at my own avatar, I can hardly imagine that my little digital camera captured the moon in that kind of detail. Camera technology has come such a long way. Which is great for people like me, who never really got the F-stop & shudder speed thing of the older cameras. Now, when we experience those picture-perfect skies, we can keep the memory fresh, because of these great little camera's.
Hopefully, when you're able to upload photo's you'll share that beautiful Seattle sunset. Thanks again for sharing!

Everyday, when I wake up. I see a very nice picturesque of the volcano (inactive, dormant) famous for its size here in my location. It amazes me how this nature's wonder captivates my heart each time I see it. I've been seeing it since I was small, but still it captures my heart. With the sun's rays showing it's peak plus some of it's sides overcasts with shadows. Plus the limestones in glimmering white simple gives me a sense of happiness.
No painting in the world, nor film could capture nature's natural beauty. And I am glad, I get to see it everyday, specially when the weather is just perfect.

Hello Laydee,
You strike me as one in communion with our natural splendor. Your volcano sounds picturesque indeed. When I was a child, we spent a few years in Oahu, Hawaii. So, I understand your fascination with a volcanic landscape. The soil, the rock, the flora and fauna are just different somehow. And very, very beautiful.
Thanks for sharing your appreciation of your landscape.

Hi ladyluna,
Thanks for the comment. Though I really want to share the picture, but I really can't capture the moment with any imaging tool. And what ever photos I have taken doesn't bring justice to it's true splendor.
Thanks and Happy posting!

One in the morning during a sunrise! There were so many yellows, blues, reds, purples in the sky! It also helped that I was on a rolling grass hill and valley. I liked it.
Sunsets in general are pretty good too. There was one where I saw a deep red sun and sky but the eastern sky had hints of orange, darkgreen, blue and nightsky. It was great.
At night I enjoy the starscapes. I even posted about my relaxation on the matter last night. It was quite beautiful and it really put me at ease. I even saw a shooting star.

Hello Theprogamer,
Isn't it funny that even though we're all 'growed up', there's still something magical about a shooting star?
Hubby & I stargaze from the hot tub in our garden. It's with joyful glee that one or the other of us announces "oooooo, oooo, look -- there's one" and tracks it through the sky with an index finger.
It's nice to know that some things still stir that child-like sense of wonder, eh?
Thanks for sharing!

OH yes, I have :)
Often I do have to stop if just for a bit to be able to take in all the beauty, it's just breathtaking sometimes.
I've seen wonderful skies here in Ontario, sometimes when we're camping, specially wonderful sunsets in a place called Georgian Bay. I've seen a wonderful sky once in Cadiz- Spain - I just didn't want to leave the beach that night, I just sat in the sand looking .. and looking. But I think the most beautiful sky I've seen was just outside Angola, in Africa. I still can see it in my mind and always has the power to lift my spirits even if it's just remembering :)

Well at the moment, the sun is out and shining which is marvelous. Considering that for the past 3 weeks or so, there has been nothing but wind and rain and even flooding in surrounding areas. So the bright sunshine is perfect considering the context of the past weeks.

On my twenty first birthday, I drove 18 hours to Wyoming (actually South Dakota first to see Mount Rushmore) to go have a huge party with a guy I was dating at that time. Needless to say, I will never forget that night, not because of the party, but because of the beauty the sky brought. It was like heaven had opened up to give me a view of what it would look like. I took several pictures, but of course, I need 500 posts to start adding them, so, here I am anyway, and I will try to do the sky some justice. It was a soft baby blue hue blended with a magnificant form of purple, soft yet deep at the same time. Pink lines formed throughout the view. Yellow hinted up top as the sun sunk down into the blue hue, changing it almost to a greenish hue, but still quite purple and blue. It was incredible!!

Hello Aralsten6245,
Welcome to MyLot. I hope you enjoy your time here.
And, thanks for sharing your Mt. Rushmore memories. Your description of the sky is very moving. As I close my eyes, I can almost see it for myself.
I remember when I first moved to the Rocky Mountains, I was awe-struck at the ability to see for miles, and miles. No tall buildings, or dense forests, just miles and miles of unimpeded views. Being up in the mountains, the only impediment to the views are the taller mountain peaks. It certainly is majestic. And, oh the sunsets are truly spectacular!
