I've been spotting stalls and sidewalk vendors catering Calamari here and there, it's like they've been popping like mushrooms on streets and corners!;) I'm a food lover, as I've been trying every new things that are starting to become famous!LoL Everytime I see one, I get to taste them and enjoy the different kinds of dipping sauce they make. I am now thinking of making my own, not for selling but for the family!;) Ever tried tasting one, do you love squids? You never know what you'r missing, it's one good food trip to experience!;)

Because we live so far from any ocean, my husband says that any calamari we get here in Kansas is just going to be jaw exercise, and not a really good eating experience. I do like to go out to eat or to food vendors and then try to duplicate the same experience or better at home. It is a lot of fun, and we get some new taste experiences that way.

We get live seafoods here, straight from the ocean. But there are also others that come from far places, like provinces, but we still manage to cook and prepare according to our preferred taste and textures. I have decided to buy squid tomorrow, and prepare some calamari for our lunch!;)

Oooh I love squid! It's my favourite seafood after octopus. I wish there were sidewalk vendors in Singapore. The government says it's unhygienic but I think the dirtiest food is actually the tastiest! Besides, what are our immune systems for? :P

I like fried calamari, but I can't eat it any other way... looks too much like what it is (squid). Don't know if I'd want to eat it from a street cart; can they keep it cool so it doesn't spoil? I'm always kind of leery of those carts, especially in hot weather.

They do keep them cool, as it is placed on top of the frying pan hanging. Vendors have some large umbrellas to protect them and their clients, if not, they go under the shade of trees!;)

i never thought calamares would go under the category "streetfood".. now, it is side by side with the isaw, adidas, and balut, etc. I don't think it has reached my place yet. But i'm sure it wouldn't take long.. But to tell you, i really love calamares. i can eat it anytime! I just wonder though, does it taste the same way as those which are served usually in restaurants, or better? lol.. =D

It's a good stuff, the dipping sauce makes the difference. I guess I can safely say that, it's just right for the budget!;)

I love squids, especially small little deep fried ones. It is so chewy and crunchy to bite. I too eat squids cooked Muslim style, with the black juice or whatever you call it, simply delicious. Of course, calamari rings are also one of my favourites.

It's their ink (black colorings), we also have that dish here in my country. We call that, "adobong pusit (squid)." Deep-fried calamari and sizzling hot, is the one I prefer when eating my calamari!;)

It sure is a waste of money, it's really hard to cook something that has been frozen chilled for about weeks already!;)

So from what I understand Calamari is squid? If that's the case I have never nor will I ever try it. I am not a fan of any type of sea food. I've eaten mai mai shark is the most exotic of sea foods I've ever eaten. So no I won't be trying it here in the states at all. Ewwww! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Unless its all fried up, I don't care for calamari much. Fried--- I'll start poping them and can't stop. There was a restaurant back where I grew up that used to serve burgers and fried calamari, and I got hooked. Now, go into sushi or something like that and my rule is no suckers---

I saw lots of stalls selling them in Recto when we went there the last time. they all look yummy, forget the squidballs, and the kikiam this is the next big thing. Unfortunately I was pressed for time and did not have the time to stop and taste them.

i call street foods as typhoid fever.. when i was in highschool, i loved eating fishballs while waiting for my school service, and luckily, i was confined because of it.. after 2 years, upon entering college, theres a lane near our school we call hepa lane, choose your bet, quail eggs, kikiam, fishballs, calamari, siomai, burgers, etc. too bad for my health, i love all of these..

I've been eating this since I was in my grade schoold days, I suppose that you're just one of those people who got victim of improper food preparation and sanitation. I still see some good caterers of these types of food, that I hope I won't end up in the hospital too!;)

That's alright, it would really be traumatic to get caught in-between the food and that dreaded hepatitis disease!;)

I love eating squids. It really tastes good though I think it does not really look good especially if its not yet cooked or fried. Unfortunately, here in the US, squids cannot just be found in any grocery stores like meat and fish. If I want to eat squids, I have to go Chinese restaurants to found one, and if my family and I want to cook it at home, we have to go to big Oriental stores. Well, sometimes a few fish 'n chips diner also served some fried squids but the number of those diners in our area is really not that much. If you haven't tried it yet, try it sometime, maybe you'll like it.

Well I hope you do enjoy it, as what most of us here in the Philippines do!;) We are blessed and fortunate to have fresh supplies and abundant resources of seafood, we love them fresh and still moving while we cook!;)

Ooh, I love squid! It's a common food here in the Philippines because we are a "seafood" country, what with a long total coastline (since we are an archipelago. It's one of my favorite appetizers.

Definitely! A new trend is vastly growing on streets, try eating those calamari sold on side streets. I'm sure you'll enjoy it too, as I've enjoyed them almost everyday!;)

yeah i love it too there is stall in the waiting shed in buendia that sells calamari but i had a bad experience about it the oil got over spilled and i got hit in my arms and cause a scar so i dont eat much na calamari because of it i know its accident but the thing is they should also think of their customers safety .

It never occured to me, because I'm aware that oil when heated has the tendency to over-spill because of too much pressure. They should've lowered the heat first, before they put the calamari in..

i think soaking the squid overnight might help make it crispy. then deep fry it!
