I was not a myLot member when you posted this, but I really love my Canon PowerShot SD600. I had its little sister the 110 first and loved it. This is the camera they started out comparing to "jewelry" because it was so small and easy to handle for a camera that powerful. I took all of the pictures in these slide shows with my old 110:

All of the digital elph cameras are great, but I chose this one because it has a nice feel, a great viewing screen, it is small and light, the batteries are inexpensive, last a long time, and recharge quickly, it is easy to use, easy to upload the photos and the resolution is adequate for everyday use.
Your Nikon was a great choice, too, but I am glad to see you got a PowerShot, and a very good one at that! I'll bet you end up using the Canon more often than your impressive Nikon, though, because of the convenience. Are you still happy with both cameras?

Hi,,thanks for commenting, I am so happy you did because I like seeing comments from people who actually have a powershot camera or of course the nikon. My camera hunt started out with me wanting the Rebel xti Canon and soon after decided I would also need a much smaller camera for my purse for that quick thinking moment when you say Oh we need a camera for this. Then hubby got in on the act and decided the Nikon was the better way to go. The D80 is about has professional as we will ever be so no D200 for us. I still wanted my pocket size camera so then we decided on the DS900 powershot. So it has only been two weeks for one camera and one week for the other but guess what? This weekend we went to a cabin for the weekend. We both snapped a lot of pictures with both cameras so it will be great to compare the canon to the nikon ones. Of course they won't be the same but I am sitll hoping for great quality as I have read in the reviews that the powershots are fabulous. We had a lot of fun! We have framed a few pictures from our Nikon already and they are amazing but tonight we just got home from the cabin and it was my real first opportunity to get some shots. So I might post them this week. Probably I will put a couple of here for sure just to show everyone. You are right the canon will get used more because I won't be carrying around the nikon everywhere that is the reason for the extra little camera.

Very good point I should of said what my plans are for my camera. Well nothing really! I have hated cameras all of my entire life. I would run and hide when cameras came out of someone's purse when I was a kid. I am 47 now and all of a sudden I have a new found love for a camera. OH not to take picture's of me that is still not my favorite thing but nature. I realize I love nature and I love to have nice pictures of it! I doubt I will ever be able to sell my pictures or anything like that but I would love to have a great quality digital camera to take lovely pictures with! Thank for your comment!

If you are looking for a starter camera that will let you grow in photography I would suggest the Canon Powershot series. I have a Canon A530 and like it very much. The problem with it is it is so easy to use that my 5 year old grandaughters are using it more and more so I am looking for another camera. It is a great little camera and I would recommend it to any newcomer.

Thanks for commenting! We just bought two cameras. Last week we bought the Nikon D80 for some serious picture taking and yesterday for my BDay my hubby gave me a powershot DS 900 for quick picture taking.. a nice little camera I can carry around in my purse.

My husband bought a Canon Powershot G5. He swears by Canon and unlike the previous one, this in is easy to get parts for. His youngest brother was into photography and he always preferred Canons. There might be a newer model, or one that takes larger prints. Mind you, if I was wealthy, I would buy the best Canon there ever was. But that is because I always had to buy the middle or lower cost value of anything and they never did what was expected.

Hi,,, thanks for commenting.. my camera hunt is over.. Last week we bought a Nikon D80 because we have a couple of weddings we are going to that we wanted nice pictures for and plus a holiday coming up. Then yesterday for my BDay my hubby bought me the DS powershot 900 canon. A small little digital for me to carry in my purse for those quick picture taking moments. You know the ones where you say; Oh I wish I had a camera. I love Canon too from what I have seen of them.. Orginally I was looking to buy the STI Rebal Canon but ended up with the Nikon D80. Oh well I did get one Canon. I have not tested it yet to see the quality of picture but I am expecting greatness. LOL

Goodness. I guess it depends on a variety of factors. What do want the camera for ? Are you wanting to take pictures just for email or would like be able to print them out in good quality printouts ? How much money do you have to spend. Digitals start at under at $100 but still go all the way to $1000.00 . What is your primary subject ? If you are taking a lot of scenery pictures, then you will definitely want to get something with a lot of optical zoom , so you can bring your subject in closer.
If had the money I would get the camera with the most mega pixels and optical zoom that I could afford. I am not sure the brand always matters. I would check out the brands to see which one is the most user friendly . I have had HP cameras and now own a Canon. I find the Canon has more features but it is harder for me to use. It depends on your knowledge of this kind of technology I guess . Hope this helps .

Excellent questions! I should of said what I wanted the camera for that would of helped I am sure? I think what I was trying to do was to find the cameras out there that people absolutely love and why and maybe this would help me. I like what you said about the mega pixels and the zoom. Yes I will need those qualities for sure because i would have to say my biggest desire for my camera right now is to take pictures of nature! All my life I have hated cameras but this past year I have found a new love and an appreciation for them and I would like to make up for lost time. I would love to take beautiful pictures of my family to have them framed as well! Plus to frame my own scenery pictures for my home! You have a Cannon? A cannon has been brought to my attention a number of times in the past few weeks. What type of cannon do you have?

It's been a year now...how would you answer your own question now that you have your Canon and Nikon for so long?

You should get paid a lot for that question. I think it is great! Will we bought the Nikon D80 and I love it. My husband and I both do. My sister-in-law bought a D40 for her son and it just doesn't compare but I am sure is great compare to other cameras. My friend bought the Nikon 200 at the same time we bought our D80 and I would have to say if you have the extra cash, go all the way and get that 200. It is amazing. We need to get a better lense for ours to do the things we want but that cost another 700 or so dollars. When we get it we will be more then satisfied with out D80 Nikon. I also bought the Cannon 900 powershot. Huge mistake. I should of bought the Cannon 800 or even 850 but the 800 as great reviews from own and praise from the salesman I talked to about it. Why did I buy the 900 I will never know. I assumed it would have the best of both worlds of the 800 and 850 but it doesn't seem to at all. Quit dissappointing but the pictures aren't bad at all and it is small in my purse at all times. I probably would buy another small cannon for my every day use and for sure the Nikon D80 or better if you have the cash to do so. I would save and ask everyone for cash for presents for the next few years if I had to in order to get it. LOL It is amazing.

I have Canon Power Shots S3 digital camera and I am very happy with it. It makes very nice pictures and I don't have to think much when I shoot them. Use it for fun shoots.
For more professional pictures I am planing to buy EOS400 reflex digital camera. I would like to become amateur-pro photographer.

I agree with everyone else. It really depends on how you plan to use your camera. While I am a huge fan of Canon, I hear that the new Nikon is excellent as well. If I were to buy a new camera it would probably be a new Canon rebel since it will work with some of the lenses I already have. I hope you find one that will suite your needs.

Hey man,
It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want a simple point and shoot, my advice would be either the Canon A570IS, since it has the image stabilizer, or the digital elph (sd750 i believe) since it has a large lcd screen.
If you want more customizable, a digital SLR might be right for you. The most popular choice here would be the Canon Digital Rebel Xti. Now it is a 10 MP sensor, but I like my Pentax K110D. It is a little cheaper, (two lens kit for the Xti One lens kit) and has good noise reduction at high ISO ratings. It is only a 6 MP sensor, but this also helps in noise reduction, as fewer pixels are jammed into one little sensor.
Good Luck

My daughter bought a Kodak Easyshare camera and I got to use it, too. So, that is the name brand I went out and bought when I was ready for my own camera. It is simple and pretty idiot proof. I can work with the pictures on my computer fairly easily. And it has a big screen on it, not a tiny one, so I can see the subject as I am taking the pics. I like it very much and would reccommend it to anyone.
