Fast Food Clerks don't care...

My husband's biggest pet peeve is the way he sometimes gets treated by fast food/drive-through clerks. They sometimes don't seem to care, don't smile, don't say please and thank-you and so on. Since he works with the public and does all of those things, it drives him nuts. Here is a guy who had a unique solution to that problem...punch out the person in the drive-up window! WOW! Can you believe it?

I hate that kind of behavior, I worked at Wendy's for a long time, and even if I felt like crud that day, i would smile and be friendly to the customers, it really gets me when I go to a place to get something to eat or even paying for my groceries, and get treated like crud, think about it, they should be happy to see us, we are paying their wages, and if we do not come back again, they may not have a job much longer.

Our local Burger King is horrible for customer service. They rarely get the orders right, and never, ever smile. It's like they are doing you a favor and hate it! I have since stopped going to Burger King, and go to Mcdonald's because they smile and usually get the order correct.

That was crazy! I bet there are a lot of fast food clerks rethinking how they will do their job now. The guy really has a problem himself.

Since I answer from Email that link is not available til after I post this response. That being said, I do not think that violence is really the answer. I would prefer to speak with the manager or even go online and send a message to the head office of such a business.
Might be the only training in manners that these kids get and you could be doing the world at least locally a favor.
Will check out that link when this posts!

I just left our local KFC the other day because they are unfriendly, can't get the order right and can't be bothered to listen so they can. The person wasn't a teenager either but an adult that should have know better.

it can be hard to keep a smile on your face when you're hurled abuse at in the fast food area. I used to work for Hungry Jacks during my teenage years (thankfully i now work in corporate). I remember having a lot of abuse because things were too hot, too cold, no-one really asked you how your day was, which was fine, but the second you didnt have a smile on your face it was Game on. lol
I do believe that people need to have smiles on their faces and greet the customers, however its generally the long hours and small breaks that drive the workers to not have the energy to smile, they need more frequent breaks, and longer time to actually sit down and recoup, instead of 10 mins here or 10 mins there. I do feel for them.
We seem to forget that they are human too, and they may not like their job, but they need to do it to get through schooling to become better, i know i did, but then again i rarely didn't have a smile on my face, i am a naturally happy person too.
i am always nice to them behind the counter because i have done what they are doing and have felt what they are feeling. Cheer them up and give them a smile and when you respond to how is your day, have a bit of meaning back, you'd be surprised how much enthusiasm you'll recieve.. not to mention how much more food too ;)

Many of the fast food clerks are kids so that does not surprise me that people get mistreated there. They do not really care and are just there to get paychecks. There are some that do care but look out for many of the kids. I always hope that when I do go through a drive through, it is a older person who does genuinely care about quality service. Punching someone out is not a good idea. LOL

I guess we are pretty fortunate around here. I do not expect please and thank you, necessarily, but a smile and some signs that there is life in the person does help. I get tired of the cashiers and clerks who are so obviously bored with their job you wonder why you are bothering to patronize the establishment. I checked out at Wal Mart one evening, and felt like if I could have made the girl any more bored they would have had to bury her, then she came to my one bottle of pop, a new flavor I was trying. Suddenly she was animated, and friendly "Have you ever tried this, it tastes just like Skittles" I wondered who had exchanged cashiers on me when I was not looking. I have not wanted to punch anyone for a very long time, if ever.

Oh that is too funny, wouldn't it had been great to see this, so many times we are treated horribly and nobody cares and nothing is ever changed, I hate this. This was funny, I have to say!

That guy definitely had major anger issues! I'll admit that I've fantasized about doing that, but that's as far as it goes. And I've run across some clerks that definitely deserved it. But rather than try to solve the issue by getting physical and risk getting myself arrested, I have spoken with managers and gotten much better results. I actually ended up getting one employee fired...she was cussing and beyond rude when we pulled up to the window to pay, and when I said something to her about it she started on me! I wrote down her name and called the manager when I got home and explained everything to him. I found out the next day that he fired her the moment he got off the phone because the other clerks backed up what I had told him. I hate to admit it, but boy did it make me feel good!

sometimes managers and business owners dont orient their staff so it ends up to be like that. well punching a staff will just cause more problems. talk to the head or talk to that person. if he loves his job then he should start showing that he enjoys it. if he doesnt like his job well he has no choice but to show courtesy and a smile.

I refuse to go to the Arby's here because of that. My daughter and I went last summer, although we went inside instead of the drive thru. The clerk was leaning on the counter, chewing a wad of gum and was so unenthusiastic and unmannered. On top of that, the place was filthy, the front counter was gross and had a sticky film on it.
I have worked in food service for many years, and I was a manager for seven of those years, if I had an employee who acted like that, they would have faced discplinary action, and I would have been appalled to have a store so dirty.

Now my husband gets irate just thinking about Arby's salads. I love the salads, but every time he'd go to pick up one for us, they wouldn't have the dressing, or the special croutons, or the special whatever for the type of salad they were selling. It drove him nuts for them to always be out of some of the ingredients.

Maybe they're in real bad mood, but that should not be a reason to justify their lousy treatment...we expect people in fast food chains to be extra courteous and nice...with all the competition? You can report this to management, but please...not to do something drastic as to punch out the person! LOL! That will really shock him out, he would not know what hit him! But I guess not all food clerks are lousy, so you can choose which food chain to go...we have the freedom to choose, but let management know about their clerks behavior...

I have a friend who is a manager at one of those fast food places. If you heard the stories she tells about how customers treat them, how rude they are and how demanding they can be you would be shocked. If we all treated each other with kindness, maybe they could eliminate what your husband finds to be his pet peeve! After hearing her stories, I have sympathy for some who have to work in those places!

Yup I know. And clerks who don't smile make customers get upset. Because I'm very sad whenever there were employees who don't smile at all. Gee, where are the smiling faces. Punch out the person in the drive-up window? Hihihi.

It doesn't bother me if the clerk says please or thank you as long as I got what I paid for.
Maybe the clerk was tired or had a bad day. Maybe she wasn't feeling well at all. People need to take that into consideration.
The guy didn't need to punch her. All he had to do was mention it to the manager and allow him or her to take care of it.
What is wrong with people?

That's a little extreme . I do hate it when they act rude it's your job so do it and smile and if you hate it that much find something else. I couldn't do it. My daughter just started at McDonalds a few weeks ago, I'll have to tell her to always smile!

I would love to see what this man gets for such behavior. I also hate when cashiers or others who work with the public are rude and don't treat people the way that they should. I don't believe though that violence is the solution to the problem. It lowers the customer to the other persons level.

Fast food workers and the food industry in general is known for poor wages and slavish treatment of its workers. Combine that with having to deal with the general public and you have a miserable job. It irritates me when they are rude but mostly I feel sorry for their working conditions.
