Is there a need to iron undies and hankies?

I know there are people who cannot go out of the house wearing crumpled shirts, everything must be ironed. Well, I personally would not wear a shirt that is too wrinkly, would not want to look like a slob that is. But I have heard that some people even iron their underwear, is there really a need to do so? I think you just fold it properly after washing and drying and it is fine. Is there really a need to iron them? As well as hankies?

I don't think there is a need to iron my undies. Sometimes I don't iron my hankies too because I seldom use them anyway. We now live in fast phased world where everyone is always on a hurry. Time became so precious and gold to us that we want to save much of it as we can, thus we rely on disposables and instant. Laundrying hankies and ironing it will cause us more energy and resources so we opt for disposable tissues..:)

I don't iron undies. But sometimes if I have time I do. While hankies, it needs to be ironed since people will see it. While undies, unless people will see it, you need to iron it. *LOL* They say undies needs to be iron since the heat from the iron kills bacteria. Well, as much as I can I would, but there are just times when you have so much to do and so little time and energy. So, that's it. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

Hahah... depends on the available time huh... That's weird, cause I basically did not grow up getting used to the idea of ironing undies..

Do you put your clothes in the dryer, or do you line dry them. I use the dryer, and I think the heat from that would sufficiently kill any bacteria that may be left after a hot wash. Am I wrong about this? I can see ironing a hankie, if you use them, as other people will see those.

Well, for one thing, you can't iron those made in polyester. I don't use those, neither do I use silk. I use cotton because it's healthier for the skin and it's cooler. Healthier because it enables the skin to breathe.

Hmmm. I don't know, because I use a dryer machine and the clothes seems fine and not crumpled especially the undies and hankies. But yeah, I used to live in a place where people don't use dryer machine and they really need to iron all. And before, I was not the one who took care of my clothes, I just wear them and now I miss being like a princess.

Yeah, we used to have a maid who does everything for us too. And so clothes would always be ironed, even the hankies, but never the undies as far as I could remember. And for 5 years now, it is not the same, my mom thought that we were old enough to handle things ourselves. But then she ends up doing all the chores...

I know one cousin of mine used to iron undies and camisoles too, but not her own. They were her children's and they would be running around the house wearing only those. Personally I don't iron everything... only those clothes that are really wrinkled and wearing them makes me look indecent. I am very good at folding clothes perfectly, so most of my clothes are just washed and folded away neatly. I don't use that many hankies now and even when I used to, I would as usual, wash them and dry them after stretching them properly. That would endure them just fine like an ironed one.

My mom just hangs them properly too to avoid wrinkles so that it can just be folded after and won't need ironing.

I heard some people do that but I never did that because I didn't see a need why I should do that. As long as they are clean I don't see a need why they should be ironed. Maybe I'll try it one day if I'm bored and I'll tell you if there is a difference!

We don't iron our undies as well, but we fold them nicely before putting them inside the drawers.

I believe it also saves energy, if we can hang them properly in such a way that it does not need any ironing after then that is good. Saves lots of energy and time.

Thats just absolutely pathetic...lol. There is more to life than ironing..I very rarely iron, only when I really need to. My iron has probably got cobwebs on it...I fold my clothes straight from the line and they turn out just right for me.

if you hang up hankies nicely after washing you dont need to iron it already, or it depends what kind of cloth you have for a hanky. i still iron mine eve ni hang it nicely after washing. about undies my mom used to tell me that we ladies should iron panties but i dont hang my undies outside to dry. it is all in my room so i dont need to iron it already.

There are really people who iron even there undies and hankies. For me, i just hang, dry and fold it. It will also consume electricity if i will iron it. We have to save energy. Even clothes, i often fold it nicely so that i don't need to iron it anymore. You really have to learned different styles of folding your shirts, pants and hankies to save electricity and energy.

for a good hygiene, one must iron undies too and of course your hankies. but for the busy world we live in, i seldom do that. i iron my hankies always but not as much as i iron my undies. well, if i have spare time i do that.

Why is it more hygienic to iron undies as well? Is it because you pass heat over the fabric? We just don't do that.

Let me honestly tell you, this is one of the intereting and simple discussion that i came across here. About mei generally dont iron undergarments. But incase they are wet and not dried completely i do it. I have done many times in the rainy season. I used to wash them and they wouldn't dry and whne i have no spare left over, the only alternative i have is to iron them. I do iron hankies as i can neatly fold them and put in my pocket.

Thank you and I am glad that you do find the topic of discussion interesting as I did when I thought of it. Well yeah ironing works for clothes that aren't completely dry, I guess it'll also rid that certain smell...

I press/iron my own clothes, I've been doing this eversince!;) But I do not iron my underwear, because the garter has the tendency to loosen out. For hankies, most of the times I also iron it but I can also leave it as it was since I fold it and put it on my pocket.

Well, I usually don't iron any small pieces of clothing (underwear, undershirt, socks, hankies, etc.). For that last item, I usually don't carry a hankie around with me (funny...since I currently live in a country where many people carry their hankies with them) - unless it's for a formal suit.
