Should I get a cat or a dog?

I'm moving into a new house and I want to get a pet. I'm not sure which one to choose. At first I wanted a puppy but now I'm not sure. We were never allowed to have a pet at this house. There is a cat that comes up that I like. She's a calico cat. I like cats because they dont jump on you when you walk in or out the door. They like to twirl around you which is kinda cute. Not only that they use a litter box. I'm not sure though. Which would you choose?

Some pits turn mean but mine didn't. She was the gentlest dog and liked to play with my son. I understand why your not fond of them. Not many are because of the attacks. It just depends on how they are raised. Some train them to be mean or pester them to the point that they attack them or others.

That's really not a hard choice to make. For security purposes I would rather have a dog. With having a dog, your dog will always be your best friend and listen to you, makes you even wonder if they know what your saying at times. Dogs are smart.
If you spend lots of time with your dog and train your dog, you neve know the unexpected may arise where your dog could assist in a home emergency if your home alone.
There's many stories where peoples pet dog have saved there lives.
But, it's really hard to say between a cat and a dog. Both are great companions.
Another thing to consider with you having a toddler, cats like to get on your chest and they take your breath.
But, with a house dog , the dog will aleart you when someone approaches the house.

I see your point. I had a pet before a couple of years back. She was a pit bull. We had her a dog house and out on a chain but she never bit anybody. She protected me and my son from a snake one day. I was trying to get on my porch and she kept barking at me and then ran towards the house. I didn't know why at first and then I happened to glance over at what she was looking at. It looked like a large brown snake crawling along the bottom of our home. I realized then. I was suprised because I didnt know that dogs would do that kind of thing.

Mmm....well the choice should b carefully made. Dogs are loyal, docile but way too much dependant. But cats are cunning, smart and do not lick ur feet everytime to please u. Choose the pet that goes with ur personality...so that u wud b able to identify with it :-)
Good Luck!!!!!
Do let us know ur final desicion.

If you are looking for cute and one which likes to play i would pick a cat as they are so nice and cute looking (my opinion), but if you want guard and maybe join some dog agility competions then i would choose dog. I wish you goodluck choosing your pet :) I hope it will become your best friend and you keep feeding and playing with it..

It depends on how much time and effort you can spend on the animal. I'd personally go with a cat, even if I like dogs. Cats can take care of themselves most of the time, and even though dogs can be great for security a cat can be just as intelligent and friendly as a dog.
If you do get a cat, I suggest you keep it indoors or use a leash if you'd take it for a walk. Cats are fast and can be hard to catch if they run away, and I for one doesn't like to worry about my dear pet being hit by a car or attacked by a wild animal.

Having a dog is more friendly than having a cat.
A dog can be a good listener and able trained guide.
It can protect you, your treasure and your house safely. I can leave my house for the short distance without locking a house. They are good guards during the night. They can hear 5 times than we do. A cat can keep the mice away; so a dog can do this job as well. A cat eat less than a dog. a dog eat much more than 20 cats a meal. I have three dogs at home. I have not got much time to play with them. They listen to you when you tell them to sleep while you are eating at the table.

A dog is ALOT more responsibility. He still needs you to take him out, even if it is a storm outside. I would never get a dog unless I was 100% sure!

If you are unsure then you are not ready for a dog.
A cat will move on to a new home if things don't work out with you and pets whereas a dog will be totally dependent on you and if things don't work out it's life will be a misery.
All pets make a mess in the home one way or another so if that is a problem in your case then no pets is the best way for you.

When I younger like in the 3rd grade I lived me my uncle and aunt on the farm, They had collie dog that was really smart, his name was frank. I really miss frank. One day he come up missing, don't know if a snake got him or what. Not that someone picked him up and ran off with him.
But, if any of cattle would get out of the pasture all I would have to do is point the way and say frank go get them. He would know exactly what to do and get the cattle back in the pasture.

Well I now have a calico cat, I love her very much.I think that a cat is the best animal in the house. I had dogs all my life, but you would always have to put them out doors to use the bathroom, they would chew up things in the house, bark alot.A cat is more independant.Less vet bills, cleaner than a dog, no barking. They also use the litter box.If I am gone away for a few days she is o.k. in the house with plenty of food and water. They eat less also. They clean themselves, no need to bath them. They are cuddly, and so loving and cute.

Hello angelbaby, it always depends on you if you want to have a dog or a cat. But why not have them both right? hehe. Dogs are friendly that is why they are called man's bestfriend, but sometimes they go wild at some instances, which could lead to danger especially for young kids. On the other hand, cats are friendly too, and they dont go wild and it's safer to have them inside the home with your family compared to dogs, but the decision will always be yours. Take care!
Best regards,

Well I would choose a dog but that's just me. It also depends on what you want. If you want a clean, calm pet get a cat. If you want one that's good for outdoor or you know, fun cuddlier get a dog, a small dog that is. The bigger the dog the bigger the crap.

I would definitely go for a dog, you'll get a companion, a guard and a pet. Plus the fact that dogs really are very adorable. And not all dogs would leap on to you in that instance, I guess there are just those hyperactive ones. i would definitely choose a dog!

Well I think it depends on the type of person you are. Cats are very relaxed, where dogs are very active. Cats do train easy, but you also have the litterbox to clean, Dogs need more training but eventually go outside to potty. I love both animals and have both, My cats are fun, since they are about 5 yrs old now they have kinda slowed down a bit and sleep alot when they are not demanding something, My dog was not so hard to potty train, she would probably give her life for mine considering my fiancee cannot even tap me without her defending me. I think dogs really LOVE YOU, Im sure my cats love me too, its just different somehow with a dog.
