I went to my daughters for setting off fireworks for her and my 2 grandsons. Everything was going so geat until....... We sat at the opening of the garage and I was setting the fireworks off near the street maybe 30 feet from our chairs. After seeting off a few Sam was geting annoyed at the flashing and loud bangs. He was yelling loudly at them all the time also. Well I lit another medium sized one that started to emit beautiful gold and puple sparks in a fountain pattern. Then it happened. Sam ran to the firework and grabbed it in his mouth sideways. He hated this thing and wanted to kill it. He ran right at my wife. Right before he got to my wife he dropped it and it rolled under my wifes chair. I had never seen people jump so fast in my life. And I of course forgot my damn camera. If you haven't figured it out yet Sam is my daughters Sheppard/Beagle mix dog. This was funnt and I still can't get the sight out of my mind this dog running with a lit firework sparkling like crazy off to the side. Dropping it then staring at it like, "Is it dead yet?" Ohhh this was a great time tonight. By the way the grandkids, wife, daughter, son-in-law and my self all had a great time munching on pizza and watching ther fireowks of mine. And the mosquitos were pretty bad as I am still scratching the dang bumps. Thanks all.

You had me soooo confused!!! You said "I went to my daughters for setting off fireworks for her and my 2 grandsons." so I figured Sam was one of your grandsons!!! it didn't make it easier that you described Sam as yelling at the fireworks. Then I got really confused when he picked it up with his mouth...
Sounds like you had a lot of fun! Isnt it a few days early for fireworks? just kidding! I was setting some off a few days ago (not so legally... I live in New York. Thanx Pennsylvania!) but nothing like that happened!

That was the whole purpose of the wording. Yelling...well barking is yelling in dog language isn;t it? HAHAHA! And I never said my grandson Sam. Hahahaha! Thanks for responding. It was great. A video of this would have won the top prize for Americas Funniest Home Videos I feel damn it. I hate my self as I always take my camera every where I go. But tonight I thought I'll be busy setting the fireworks off so I'll leave it home. Grrrr! Thanks for your rsponse as well. My grandons are the 2 in my avatr, Hunter (l) Tyler (r)

That must have been so much fun and hilarious too Grandpa Bob. No one could steal the fireworks show just like Sam can! LOL! Though I am not so fond of any hairy animals, but I find dogs really cute and intelligent. My daughter's favorite story is always about the dogs. Even with all those mosquito , you did have a great family bonding time spiced up by Sam's exhibition. Happy posting!

Hairy animlas? The only "hairy" animals I know of are primates. Monkeys, apes, gorillas etc. Dogs have "fur" not hair. HAHAHA!! Yes it was a great time seeing Sam didn't get hurt. He got locked in the back yard after that. Didn't weant him grabbing any of the bigger ones that followed later.

That had to have been a sight to see. Too bad you forgot your camera. But you were probably to busy laughing to have snapped a picture anyway. But I can visualize what you are saying without any pictures.

It all happened in like 3 seconds so it would not have been caught on tape yet alone as a photo I think. It went so fast.

Dogs get real weird ideas in their heads. He must have thought the fire work was some sort of enemy.
Our kids have two remote contro, cars. When the take one or both out on the back verandah, & start operating them, the dogs go balistic. They run round & round the car, barking incessntly & bcoming quite frantic.
Unlike Sam, they wont pick it up though, or touch the remopte car in any way.

Darn you Grandpa Bob...you scared me! I thought you were talking about one of your grandsons, not your daughter's dog! LMAO!!! Though I should have known better that it was a dog and not a child. ;)
I'm glad everyone had a good time...well almost everyone. Poor Sam! LOL

Good thing it wasn't one to go BANG!!! Glad Sam is ok too! Fireworks can be very dangerous. My dogs hate them and hide in the doghouse. The two inside just go insane barking. Only a few more days of noise...woohoo!

Oh no—I’ve never heard of a dog chasing a firework! Too funny! I’m glad that no one was hurt in this incident- I’d say next time lock the dog in the house – lol.. We go tomorrow for fireworks- except it’s supposed to rain! EEK! I hope it holds off. Darn mosquitoes! I swear we feed them at my house- they get so big! I always get bit when I’m at out night- even with lots of bug spray on! Itch away- I’m sure I’ll be itching all day Wednesday!

I love fireworks and I love playing with them ..but unfortunately in New York they are illegal.
I hope that Sam suffered no ill effects from the fireworks and that would have made a great picture, too bad you did not have your camera.

Thank you, Grandpa Bob, for the laugh when I needed a lift to my spirits at a sad time in my life. Can always count on you to do just that. Maybe Sam thought the fireworks were dangerous in which they can be if your not careful with them. I knew Sam had to be a dog but thanks for letting us know what kind of dog and who he belongs to. Glad to hear you guys had a wonderful time last nite, including the skeeters. lol

Grandpa Bob, I really wished you had a photo to share. This was a really good story you shared with us. I have to admit you had me at first. I thought you was talking about a young grandchild. I have seen a young child pick up one of those smoke bombs before. His little hand was headed to his mouth. Before he got it in his mouth his dad stopped him though. We have a German Shepherd mix that loves to chase after fireworks while our other three dogs are afraid of fireworks. Thanks for the laugh Grandpa Bob

Sam started off chasing the sparks as they shot out for the first few fireworks. But once I got to the bigger and louder ones he freaked it seemed. I wished I had my camera still. Probably wouldn't have gotten a shot with it in his mouth as it happened so quickly. But still..

Wll, the whole time I was reading it I was thiking of this poor kid with a fire work in his mouth runnin to his grandma. Our 5th got a little "nerve wreckin" for a momment too. They was up the hill abit lighting the fireworks (they bein all of the men) Us ( bein women & the kids) was a bit away from them because they had several morter rounds (big ones). My brother in law brought one down there with us to light. Someone said somethin about it & he said "Dont worry, it dont leave the ground" So he lit it. But boy was he ever wrong. The darn thing took off flying towards all of us. My mom was sitting on one side of me. In between us was my friends son, (he's handicap 3 yr old that cant get out of his wheel chair) The thing came right at her. It missed her head by less then an inch. Boy we sure was running then. I grabbed the kids. Everyone else just ran. Luckly I did think to cover the 3 yr old & 6 mnth old because as I was bent over them trying to cover them, a piece of the fire fell off & hit me in the back. Even left a blister. It was funny afterwards but at the time it kind of scared us. Then after all the fireworks was done (3 hrs later:) The guys, being idiots decided to light the box that the fire works came in on fire in the middle of the yard. I said "It would be funny if there was one left & it went off on them" About 2 minutes later, bam! It did. There was some stuff left in the box that had dumped out. Little balls & things shot everywere. Never seen grown men run so fast. Every single one of them still got hit at least a few times. It was funny though. well to us women it was the men who were the idiots & got hit didn't find it as amusing.

Hopefully Sam didn't get burnt or hurt by his trying to kill the fireworks. I love fireworks and have been blessed to have them often (since it is legal in our area of town) on any holiday that sells them.

Oh my goodness. I can just see the people trying to run away from that lit firework. And the dog thinking that he is doing something good. My dog doesn't like them either but we just leave her inside when we shoot fireworks off. I hope you quit itching soon, I hate mosquito bites.
