Do You SLEEP with the LIGHTS on??

Do you go to sleep with a lights on? Whether it be at the front door, a computer monitor, a dining room light or maybe a bathroom light, but do you go to sleep leaving these lights on purposely? Perhaps you do it for a loved one or to ward off potential intruders.
I love the quiet and darkness, and can think of no better way to sleep. But lately I have noticed that our 18 year son has a problem about leaving a light on in the kitchen, every night, I am forever turning this light off. But then I noticed today that his Father likes to sleep with the computer monitor on in the bedroom, mind you it is pictures of our children and our family outings, but he would rather have this ON, than off.
So do you sleep with the lights on?

I can sleep very well with light on or light off. It does not bother me too much. In both conditions I enjoy deep sleep. Actually when I go to bed, it takes me 5 minutes to go in deep sleep. First 4-5 hours of sleep is very deep. After that I sleep like dog or say awakened. As world is facing energy problem, as a policy matter, I keep always light off where it is not necessary. Whenever I visit to other rooms, I keep light on. After finishing the work, I light off. Energy saving must be started from home. This small small contribution makes a big one. This habit is not only at home but at office also. I do so. Thus I save lot of electricity by switching off the buttons.

That is a good idea. I used to use my television as an alarm I would set it to go off at a certain time and wake up to the news, I loved it. Thanks for responding, it is truly appreciated!

My choice would be complete darkness, but I have always needed to get up at night for the bathroom. Hubby does too. I can walk around in the dark, like a cat, but he would break his neck. Our solution is to have a short strand of tiny Christmas lights in the bathroom and a long strand down the long hall. It uses very little power and is less likely to disrupt your sleep. A strand lasts forever. I learned this year that the best light to use would be red as it is less likely to pattern you brain to wake up every night.

We sleep with the tv on. I know we should not do so but my husband likes to leave it on.For years we have done this. I used to know what time to get up by what was on tv. Now I usually wake up to what ever old movie is on TMC.

Funny ... when I was going through my divorce and alone and in a new place I left the television on all the time, it entertained me while I was bored, like someone was there for me .. thanks for responding, it is always appreciated!

I sleep with my lights OFF. If I am tired, it is fine, I can sleep in any condition.
But if not, I prefer to sleep in darkness. After all, it saves electricity and makes for more restful sleep too. :P

Hello, texasclassygals,i will always switch off the lights when i am going to sleep because the light may affect me to fall asleep, also i will waste alot of electricity if i switch it on when i am sleeping everynight. I will switch off all the lights in my house when i go to sleep,i will only switch the one in the living room and bathroom on if i go to the bathroom.

Hey theres a very funny thing associated in my life reagrding this topic. Before getting married, I use to sleep alone in my room, and as of I use to get scared very often, so my preference was always sleeping in the lights on. But now as my hubby is always with me in our room, there is no need on light now.....LOL

The same thing happened to me also, I used to not be able to sleep, couldn't sleep though the night, for years it was like this, the doctors would even give me medication to help with my sleep, nothing seemed to help until I met my partner, now I sleep peacefully all through the night. Thanks for responding, it is truly appreciated!

When I was little, I wanted to sleep with the lights on, but now that I am older, the slightest little light bothers me. I cover up the little red light on my vcr, even. I like total darkness, but my 25 year old son has started sleeping with his bedroom light on. Not sure why, he must be scared, I guess.

It really depends on my mood.
There are times that I will lay there and just stare at the light on my fan or alarm clock and it will drive me crazy. I have gone about placing something in front of my alarm clock to make it less bright and I am considering putting a band-aid over the little tower fan light! ha ha
But there are also times that I could be watching something on TV and it will bore me to the point of making me go to sleep. However, if I turn it off...I would wake up and not be able to go to sleep.
Sadly though...my partner can not stand the TV on or anything on when he is going to sleep. :(

No, I turn off all the lights. I like the darkness. Besides I wouldn't want any lights on, it wastes power.

Yes,its a need for me to sleep with the lights on.Not the main lights in my room but i purposely had a small light specially for night use while sleeping.I am consider as a scared person too,so with the small light on,i will feel secure..hehe!
As for your husband,i think he wasted the electricity of the computer.hahaha!Maybe with the lights from the computer of your family pictures will bright up his sleep.

I usually have a night light up the hall from my bedroom so i wont run stuff down when i go to the washroom through the night but that is it. I cant sleep with to much light in a room. The light from the alarm clock is the only light source in my bedroom. I guess that is why i have trouble laying down and sleeping in the daytime unless i am not feeling well then i can sleep in the day.
