For a gross lack of money and other various problems thanks to my dysfunctional family, I will not be going on any kind of vacation. Are you planning any vacation and where to? Are there any places that you really enjoy going to or places that you completely dislike?

Funny you should ask :)
I'm planning on taking a "Mental Health Week" very soon. Unfortunately my job is retarded and even though I work full-time hours they won't make me full-time and I don't get paid vacations or holidays or sick leave or anything. As I've realized I haven't been away since 2004 when I went to Australia...I need time off. So end of this month I'm taking a Mental Health Week off. I plan on...probably doing nothing cause I'm poor :\
I used to travel a lot and i miss it. Just up and down the east coast. No where special. Stay with friends and stuff.
My family never had a lot of money growing up so our vacations were to Ocean City, MD and we went to Disney World twice (Well my bro went three times) and Canada once. Now I'm poor and alone so I can't really do the vacation thing..which sucks.
I'm gonna need ideas on what to do for my "Mental Health Week" though so I was gonna make a discussion about that soon!

You've been to more places than I have. You make me sick getting to go to Australia.:P I would love to go there. I've only been to Disney World once and I want to go back. I went with school and it sucked. All the girls I roomed with fought the whole time. I need a 'Mental Health Week' too. I don't have the money for anything right now and I'm super stressed out all the time. My husband and are building a house, family drama everywhere...blah blah blah.

When I worked at the daycare, I'm talking bust our rear ends work for lousy bosses, we never had paid vacations or any benefits. That's what sucks about working in childcare. There are no benefits unless you constantly stay in school. I don't want to go to college all the time! They expect you to take like 2-4 classes every semester at many daycares here. On top of working and trying to have a life. Plus, you have to go to classes at different locations just for certification things. Blah! I didn't do anything great on my 21st birthday. I think my husband and I went out to dinner and probably did some shopping. Wow.:P

I have a friend in Australia who I'd known online for about 4 years at the time. So we made this whole plan for me to stay it was awesome. It's SOoooo expensive and I paid with it all on a credit card :\ stupid.
I went to Disney World for my 21st birthday. I'm the only one who ever does things for my own birthday so when I turned 21 I had no interest in going out and getting trashed (i'd done that sooo many times before) and I just wanted to have fun. I had a travel agent friend at the time so we went together so she got us good discounts!
I don't have money to go anywhere either. I'm just taking a week off from work (most of my stress) but I don't get paid... so there's still stress there! Spending a week alone with my cat.

Yes I'm in the same boat as you are my disfunctional family has put my planned trip to Paris to take part in one of those modeling shows. No really I'm not going any where because like you I don't have the green stuff or the transportation. I don't really konw where I would go. I thinkk I would rather take some long day trips around mt state becauuusec I really haven't explored it yet. and I've been here close to 10 years now and I know there' a lot to see and learn about.

Lexington is just across the river to the South of Columbia. It's so hard to know where one town ends and another begins. We are about 1 1/2 hours from the beach here but I'm not fond of the beach as place for me to spend much time. Well I hope you can work something out.

I see you live in NC. How far are you from the beach? You can take mini vacations. Go to a museum. Really explore the next won over. Take a friend or a child with you Just park your car or take a bus. what ever. You could do the same thing in your town. How much do you realy know about the town you live in? find out about it. Some of the best vacations I had were taking an aunt and doing lunch and walking a park over and taking pic. When I was working I would take a day and me and my best friend would go to the next town over and have lunch and explore the stores. We would enjoy the bits of history that was visable. It did't cost a lot ether and we were refreshed.

I live about 4-5 hours from the beach. I'm on the other end at the foot of the mountains. I guess my hubby and I could take a daytrip to the beach. We also have a great zoo. I think I just wanted out of NC for a few days. It's kinda dull on this end of the state.:) I have explored my town, as well as several of the surrounding towns and cities so many times that I'm bored with it. Are you close to the coast? I'm not sure where Lexington is at in SC. Thanks for the advice though. Maybe I will have some zoo pics to post soon.:)

Hoping to get to a beach also this summer- Perhaps Virginia beach- it's about 8 hours from us-

Oh no, you've never been out of the US? Oh dear. Then I highly suggest first a visit to central america or south america. Because it is cheap!! I know the travel there is the tough part, airlines are expensive these days. But the over all vacation part itself is really cheap. I hope you get the chance.

I really love to travel and have been to many different countries. I like Australia and New Zealand for the outdoor lifestyle. I enjoyed lovely holidays on tropical islands, I liked Belize, Samoa and the Seychelles most of all.
This year things will be different. My baby was born last month and so I don't have as much money as usual. I would like to take my baby on his first holiday to Portugal. Also this summer I would like to go on some nice coast and countryside walks. I might have to take a trip to the vet to help my dogs ears soon, this will be necessary, but not awfully nice for either of us.

Congragulations on your baby! Thank you so much for the informative response. You are so fortunate to have been able to experience all that traveling. I know I am only 23 and I will have my chance one day, but I get so bored with sitting around in North Carolina when there is a whole world to explore and experience. I hope everything is okay with your dog's ears too.:)

I haven't been on a real vaction in 7 years but this year we are going on a free week long trip. Someone I know is letting us use her summer trailor and we will go swimming and have lots of fun. We are real excited. I have three childern 11, 8, and 6 so it will be awesome. It is hard when you don't have the money to do things like that will your childern as I haven't been able to do this for them. Sucks but we try to make the summer fun locally.
