g'day mate ........ Aussie here...... cricket V's base ball, I don't know much about base ball but in cricket we have almost the meaning of life ... hence sayings like "it's just not cricket" if someone has done the wrong thing.. No we don't hit homers but you are right we try to score as many runs as we can before being out, we don'y catch fly balls either but we do try and catch the batsman out and kicking dirt at the umpire could result in a hefty fine....

They differ in some ways but mostly similar. I think game just evolved with the types of personality and hobbies each place have. I do not know the scoring or cricket. But I think I can associate cricket more with soccer than baseball where there are goals.

I don't know much about baseball but i can explain a lot about cricket and how it is played.
Cricket is basically a team game where two teams compete against each other. Each team consists of 11 players.
Cricket consists of three aspects of it, batting, bowling and fielding.
The batting is decided by means of toss using a coin, whoever wins the toss can make a decision either to bat or bowl.
In batting where the batters bat just like baseball but here the bat's shape is different. The bowling will be done by means of a player running and pitches the ball on the ground rather than throwing it directly on the bat as in baseball. The batter can hit the ball anywhere on the ground for taking runs as single, two's, three's, four's and six. If the ball runs past the boundary line it is scored as four runs or boundary and if it goes above it is scored as six which is the maximum run you can get in a single ball boweled.
So the teams take their turn to bat and bowl. The first playing team will set a target for the bowling team to chase and if the bowling team is able to chase it during their batting session, then they are declared as winner and if they could not get past the runs scored by the team who batted first then they lose.
I hope you understood this.
