I've always been an independent thinker and it ties with my listen to different drummer type of personality...Maybe being in the creative arts all my life just about, I think all of us in that field tend to be more independent thinkers--we don't go with the majority to begin with and are usually considered a tad eccentric--and like so what? Why be like everyone else, that would be boring---at least that's how I view it--oh, and I am most certainly the type that likes to be and take charge..the control freak in me too

this is true. there is always another way to do things. if we can find it, why go with the same old way all the time?

I would say I am not. However while it is true that independent thinkers tend to run well ahead of the crowd I see a downside to that. Because they are there own council there is no room for considering a different direction. While they may do big things and, while you are right they tend to be the true innovators, when they are wrong they are wrong in a very big way. And being human you can bet they are a certain percentage of the time. Nothing wrong with that unless it could have been prevented.
While it is true nothing ever gets done in a committee there always should be room for a different perspective.

Yes, that's me! I am a leader, not a follower. I like to research and make my own decisions not rely on something I heard or read although I do enjoy receiving advice from multiple sources. How about you? How would you classify yourself? ;)

I'd like to think I'm an independent thinker. My husband can think of things to invent, but he never follows through with them. I think he's pretty smart. I do think i can think...independently, and I do want to write childrens books.

i think i am an independent thinker, i am always in charge of what i do, i hate when someone trying to tell me what to do, i am also keep on coming up with new idea, but i have no way to get it going, i wish i could, but that doesnt stop me from coming up with different ideas each week, sometime each day. :)

I don't feel like I HAVE to be in charge, I just feel slightly more comfortable doing my own thing..but I'm not like uber bossy or only want things my way..I honestly want others opinions and ideas.
But I'm not a person who obeys someone who believes they've authority over me. If they act like we're equals, we'll get along better. I don't like it when epople behave as if they're better or not as good as me..I just prefer us all to be ourselves..there's no need for the rest of the stuff.
I can take charge, if its needed..but I'm not really one of those really social types..so it usually takesa really extreme situation to get me involved.
I am a writer..and I wanted to run my ow private investigating business after I got out of college.

Yes I consider myself an independent thinker. I usually can't stop the ideas from running through my mind. I love to do things as perfectly as I can and I usually have to do them my way. And I usually have quite a few things going at the same time. Right now I am trying to work from home. I have an eBay store where I sell American Girl Doll Clothes that I personally sew. Check out my store: http://stores.ebay.com/Dream-Doll-Boutique. My husband and I getting a website going selling a new product. I have written a couple of blogs and am always looking for new ways to generate some new income. I wouldn't have any other way.

I do not think of myself as an independant thinker more of a free thinker one who can look at several different side of a problem or idea and come up with a few different ideas about it that are not traditional.

I believe I am an independent thinker. I don't believe everything I read or hear and accept it as gospel. I'll read many sources on a subject and formulate my own ideas and opinions. I'm teaching my children to be the same way. We have many discussions on just about any topic. I don't force my ideas onto them and encourage them to ask questions and to discover their own answers so that in the end, they can form their own opinions. My one son is especially gifted in that area. He is always coming up with new ideas and new inventions to solve the world's problems.
Growing up, it was oppressive, because my father tried to make me think only one way. If I disagreed with him, it was taken as being disrespectful.
As for running a business, I'm not sure I'd be able to do that. I've written a novel and many other things, so I guess that's part of why I believe I fit in this category.

While I recognize the fact that I am indeed an independent thinker, I also know I am an independent daydreamer.
I have strong creative talents, but quickly jump to the next project and have little staying power for long term focuses. While I do have patience when achieving results, I tend to want to work on too many projects at once and rarely finish what I start. ^.^
Still, I like always coming up with something different. At least it keeps me interested.

I don't write books or invent new produce but certainly I'm independent thinker.
I think because from very small I needed put my mind work to find way to survive,I don't mean about find money to live but face the difficulties that I had to cross.
Now I'm very independent thinker,I trust my thought and my decisions,I know what I do and always why I do.

my dear friend, I don't know if I am as clever as needed to invent a new product but I am a very independent woman and thinker. I think that my mind is my real beauty and richness and I prefer making a mistake but deciding by myself better than copying someone's idea or words..so I am here..I pay for my faults and mistakes but I try to do my best each time..and I am full of ideas and passions and interests and I find it difficult to interact with people who are surprised because I can make or want to make many things...I am starting to think that they simply envy me or think that I am strange just because I am different than themselves..for example, I am a doctor and I hope I can find a good job as a doctor but now I don't have it..and I like English and I do translations and I like writing and write poems..and a colleague of mine, who I told I was trying to find my way as a translator, said that she cannot understand why I wasted my time on this..and she was looking at me...just how you would look at someone doing nonsense. I don't subscribe to this point of view..I can do many things and I like doing them and I am not doing anything illegal...so why should she think I am so odd or strange???? so here I am ..independent and with many ideas!!!!

Hello Polachicago,
I have always considered my self to be an independent thinker. I have wrote a couple of books when I was younger. I have three homes published in Architect Journal, I run my own business, I run a Landscape & LawnCare business. I have two patents on products, that I am working on getting to the general public as we speak. I like to start new thing to expand my knowledge and I think I am a self starter and independent thinker.
Peace, Totty
