Do you reuse the plastic shopping bags you get from the grocery store?

I've always wondered what other people do with their grocery store plastic shopping bags. We use them for small batches of trash when we run out of the kitchen trash bags. What about you? Do you recycle them? Reuse them? Or, return them to the grocery store?

I myself use them as trash bags, or any other time I might need a small plastic bag. For instance, I will take one with me to the beach or lake sometimes so I can put my wet bathing suit in it after I change.
I also use those plastic bags to crochet with. If you cut up the bags, you can actually connect them together to make a yarn. Then I crochet it into new reusuble bags for shopping. This can be a lot of fun because many stores use different colors for their bags.
Here is an example of one of these bags. Oh, and there are directions too in case anyone else wants to try it:

We have small trashcans in all our rooms except the kitchen, and we use the bags to line those. We also use them to pick up the dog waste in the yard and as padding when we pack something to mail it. If we still have an abundance of bags left, we will donate them to our local thrift store to be reused, or we will sometimes drop them off in the recycling bin at the grocery store.

I like both your ideas, about the thrift shops and the dog clean ups. We have the occasional dog mess in our yard and I always have to waste an entire kitchen bag on it.

All the time. I have re-usable shopping bags that I take when I go into town for shopping but i've started having my shopping delivered and they bring everything in carrier bags although I do give as many back to the driver as i can. Any other spare bags I save and use for collecting rubbish.

All the time :)
I use them for garbage, to cover things in storage so they don't get too dusty, to pick up the poop when I go out with my dog:)
I also keep a few folded in my backpack in case I end up doing some grocery shopping. SPecially since we have to pay for the bags in many supermarkets.

We use them for various things. . .but our most recent use for them is scooping out the cat litter. We double them up and scoop out the clumps. No use wasting a huge trash bag for that.

It looks like everybody's using them as alternative to thrash bags, and we are no different. In fact, I think these thrash bags are of more appropriate sizes than the big black thrash bags that we used to buy, because they can easily go down the rubbish chute of our apartment. We also use the plastic shopping bags for wrapping up some of the stuff we keep in our cabinets. This is to prevent dust from getting to these items in storage.

I use them for trash, because I live in an appartment building, so I don't like to keep the trash in my appartment for too long, and they're smaller than the usual trash bags, and besides the janitor (is that the proper name?) puts all the bags together in big black trash bags, so I don't actually cause any trouble to the garbage men...

reuse shopping bags ?!!..oh definitely. We often use it to gather trash. it's one way of saving money instead of buying garbage bags.
Sometimes my daughter uses it as a material for their decoration in school.
Be imaginative..and you will learn how to recycle things and help our environment at the same time.

My hubs and I do our best for the environment by taking our recyclables to the depot we have in our little town of just under 1,000 residents. There is a prevailing green consciousness in our area and that is just one of the many reasons we are thankful to be living here.
I our case we have switched over to 'green bags' and take ours when we go shopping to avoid having more bags to be recycled. We also compost and watch how much water and electricity we use in the house. Turning off lights and making sure electronics are turned off when we are done and driving slower than the speed limit to conserve gas are how we do our small part.

We use them as trash bags. Smaller ones are used for when we need to bring food somewhere and wants to lessen the risk of leaking, and the bigger ones are used for carrying stuff.

I use them for small trash can bags, such as for the bathrooms or desks. They are also good for putting a dirth diaper in and tieing it shut before putting it in the trash can.To double protect the oder.

I also re-use them to carry things to other places, like taking wet clothes home from the pool rather then laying them on the car seat or in the beach bag and getting everything else wet in there.Or if Iam taking some things to my mom's house and instead of sitting them on the car seat and having something small roll of the seat and get lost or forgotten,it is in the bag that was free.

Ah, the ubiquitous plastic shopping bags! We use some of ours as trashcan liners in the bathroom trashcans. If we run out of tall kitchen trashcan liners, we use these...and of course have to change the can more frequently. I also keep a handful in each piece of luggage and sports bags to use for dirty clothes, carrying shoes, wet items etc. Many of our bags are taken back to the store, which has a place to put them for recycling. I've often wished that someone more creative than myself could come up with something really cool to use them for!

I use the grocery store plastic shopping bags for a lot of reasons. Like you, for small batches of trash, for particularly bad diapers, quick cleanups in the backyard (pooper scooping). But the thing I use them for the most is storing works in progress.... pieces of pottery. Potters need for the clay to stay moist while they still need to be able to manipulate it. After that, we want our pieces to dry slowly so that is when I will just lightly drape a piece with one of these bags. Lots and lots of uses for a potter.

yes i do it. people doesnt value that kind of simple aprreciation to things which is basically and logicaly responsibility of a mature person. you know what, that is one of the sign if a person is getting ot reach its maturity age. when a person do this acts such as re-use plastic bags, and other simple things, that means this person value things around them.

Yes, our family has been doing this since time immemorial. For all I know, we haven't really bought garbage bags. We use the plastic bags for our trash.
We also use these bags if we need some container for our things on a short trip.
My mother and grandmother thought us to recycle plastic bags on anything that we can think of, before throwing them away. This way, we can even help reduce the garbage being thrown by our family.
