Border Patrol Agents, Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos.
These two American Heros are sitting in prison for doing their jobs! They shot a drug smuggling, murderer who was attempting to bring more illegal aliens into the country.
In a waste of justice only a government bureaucracy could dream up, the drug dealing waste of human flesh whined to the Mexican government about getting shot in the butt.
They should never have been arrested, much less convicted!
PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH, PARDON THESE TWO AMERICAN HEROES!

The interesting thing about this whole situation is that both the judge and the D.A. were both Bush appointees. The D.A. gave the illegal immunity and gave him back his van. Let's face it, Bill Clinton was the first African American president, and George W. Bush is the first Hispanic president. Viva el presidente Bush. (I think that is right).

There does seem to be an absurdity in the length of the sentences. But in the interests of completeness, it's worth mentioning that they attempted to cover up the shooting, and they were firing at an unarmed man who was running away.
It is wrong that we can apparently find room in the prisons for these guys, but not for violent and dangerous criminals. But that's a seperate discussion...

Sorry to butt in here, but I would be remiss in not pointing out that the FBI documentation does NOT support any attempted cover-up by the two agents, in question.
In fact, the supporting evidence shows that the supervisors of the two agents were on notified, and on-scene immediately. No evidence was tampered with, or destroyed at the scene of the incident, by any Border Patrol personnell.
The prosecutor in the case, whose mother is a close friend of the mother of the smuggler, has been proven to have distorted the facts during the trial.

The agents and their supervisor did collect up the spent brass and didn't follow Border Patol SOP for a shooting.
That being said, nothing of that deserves prison time.

Yeah, the scum was running away, they warned him, then shot. I don't feel sorry for the waste of human flesh at all.
Yes, there was a cover up, and they should answer for that, but not by sitting in prison while the piece of human debris gets perks from our government.

Hello ParaTed,
I will admit that this case is terribly baffling to me. I suspect that the smuggler must have provided sensitive information on a much bigger fish than himself. Or, perhaps he is a D.E.A. informant, of value. There must be something more to this case, because it defies logic and all legal precedent. This case is ripe for grounds for appeal ... yet the system has not worked as it normally does, or should.
The prosecutor's case has been debunked. It has been proven that the prosecutor mislead the jury. The connection between the family's of the prosecutor, and the smuggler raise serious questions. There are just so many unanswered questions.
Regardless of what the bigger story might be, and given the very real probability that the public will never know the whole story -- you are still right as rain, Ramos and Compean should be pardoned -- immediately!

True, the prosecution was bogus. There probably is more to this situation than we'll ever know. The two agents shouldn't be the fall guys for it though.

They shot him and didn't report it! I agree the guy was a waster but I don't think it's right to honour federal policemen who will shoot an unarmed man and not tell anyone. It's just not right in a country like the US, where you're supposed to be able to look up to the authorities to do the right thing.

If they didn't tell anyone, how did they know who did it? ;~D

Yup, apparently we're supposed to feel sorry for the terrorists because they are just lashing back at the evil U.S., but prosecute our own.
