Colgate's TOXIC toothpaste: head about it?

It's been a big thing here in the news. Authorities have detected illegal copies of Colgate toothpaste in many western countries such as USA, Spain, Germany, etc. Apparently they have chinese and/or origin. There are reports of cancer cases provoked by it, and even some deaths. I used to use colgate at home, but i have decided to stop using it for a while until all gets back to normal. I know that it's highly unlikely that i use one of those toxic samples, but one never knows.
Had you heard about it? Have you changed your toothpaste brand after hearing this in the news? Do you think it's just the media exaggerating ?

The "Colgate" toothpaste you are talking about is a counterfeit product that was made in South Africa. The box looks identical to the real Colgate except it says "African Dental Association" and "Made in South Africa".

I too have heard about that toothpaste coming from South Africa so we need to be careful and check the boxes to make sure we have the real thing. It seems that people are trying to cause harm throughout the world by putting out fake toothpaste with poisoning. It ashame what people are trying to do to people throughout the world plus try and make money off a fake product.

The Chinese toothpaste was contaminated; not, counterfeit. None of it said "Colgate"; or any of the other major brands. It does all say that it is "Made In China" and the US has banned it all and recalled it.
They found that some of our government agencies had purchased large quatities of toothpaste as far back as 1992 (and had stockpiled it) and when tested even that was contaminated. So this is not a new problem.
The amount in the toothpatse is very small and unless you swallow it; it can not harm you. Even then it would take time to accumulate and do damage. BUT, how many people spit and rinse properly when brushing?

I also use colgate and I haven't heard anything about this. I will definitely have to check into this. Maybe switching my brand would be a good idea right about now. Thanks.

Hi there LightninStrike,
I have enjoyed reading your posts here in myLot for quite some time now, and they were all good in quality, but please, do not put a bad name on "chinese" just because of this, do you have any proof, please link us to a news article online or something to back your information up (NOTE: i am not calling you a liar). But myLot has a HUGE 99 thousand population and what you say could have a great impact on other's thinking =(.
As speakeasy have said, it originated from South Africa, again, please provide information to back it up and not just say it without proof =D
I will continue to love your discussions and posts, but please be careful when starting a discussion =D

No, i am not talking about chinese...I am just saying that according to certain media, some products with chinese origin have been introduced illegally in some western countries, some of them turning out to be toxic. I am not saying anything against the chinese people at all mini, really. I'm really honoured that you like my posts, and if i said about chinese and south african products it is solely because international media said that and i merely reproduced it here, no further intention at all :)

I know that sometimes media can be deceiving, i just reproduced what i heard and saw in case it could be of any help...and by any chance i would use that as a tool to attack the chinese people...basically because i have nothing at all against them.

Oh ok, well, you should note that media is deceiving most of the time! Anyways, now i understand what you mean. Also, those "illegal" products entering Western society. Do you think those western countries have no fault at all? No one would produce those toxic toothpaste if there was no demand for them. It only exists because some Western country business decided they would buy a CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE for the famous brand so they can gain higher profits, so i think it is a both side thing, and not solely the fault of the producers of those toxic tooth paste, do you not agree with what i said? There is an old saying in Chinese "You can not clap with one hand" meaning, it is never one person's fault, it is always a both side's responsibility if something goes wrong

Hard to believe this.I think it might be a plan of other companies to lessen the profits of Colgate. It is a very famous worldwide brand. They can never do this. This might make them loose their reputation which will permanantly make them loosers.

well, that conspiracy theory is possible, but if it was discovered then those other brands would be destroyed forever, so why risking it? besides, if a brand is so popular, that's a good reason for some irresponsible criminal to introduce those counterfeit products.

I have not heard about it but we do have a lot of imitation or fake products coming from china mostly. They usually litter the markets and are much cheaper. So I don't shop from market places but I at the department stores wherein the store itself has certain standards and are strict as to the originality of the products. I used to work in a forwarding business and when we deliver the products to the pharmacies and department stores, they really inspect it and one has to show documentation as to its originality so fake products coming in would be nil. This is the reason why I am more trusting with bid department stores and pharmacies here in my country.

I have heard of this. Luckily, most colgate toothpaste sold in the US is made in the US. You just have to look at the manufacture information on the box. Most toothpaste made in China is sold at dollar type stores. Not Family Dollar or General Dollar but stores like Always 99c or Dollar Tree. If you buy your Colgate at WalMart, Target or any major grocery store chain, it is most likely made in the US and safe.
I am currently going over all my son's Thomas toys to see if any where recalled lately. It is driving me nuts as he has like every single Thomas toy ever made. The metal ones, the wooden ones, the lego ones and the battery operated ones too. I am thinking of buying only German made toys. At least the Germans make toys that last and are educational too. Heck my uncle has some German building blocks that are on their 5th generation of kids.

i heard that a lot of products coming from China are being counterfeited or faked for commercial distribution throught the world. here in our country, the Phiippines, it's not only toothpaste products are being marketed from China, but includes, soap, shampoo, perfume, dvds, electrical appliances, and lately, fake NOKIA cellphones. these have been found to be very dangerous to our health specifically the toothpaste, soap and shampoo products. just be cautious of the products coming from China.
