I don't know why, but whenever someone takes a picture of me i don't like how i am in them. Only sometimes when the picture is taken without me noticing i can look reasonably fine.
I don't know why this happens, but some people have a gift before a camera, and others like me don't LOL
Do you usually look good in pictures, or are you like me? LOL

Hi there LightninStrike again !! xD
I remember you from the toothpaste discussion, gee you make the most interesting topics here on myLot, seriously!
Anyways, back on topic, I do look bad in pictures than i do in real life, it is so true. When i was young i looked REALLY bad in photos and just hated my photo being taken, but now that i am older, i look all right in pictures and actually dont mind a photo of me being taken anymore! -D

You're going to make me blush, mini, thank you hehe. So you mean that as you've got older you look better on pics? then i guess i will just have to wait hehe.

LOL! i mean, i am only 18 years old now lol... its not as if i am some 40 year old bloke... Anyways, you don't have to blush! I am just being honest...love your discussions =D
PS: when i was little, i had a little round face (age of 7-8) and it looked like a ball, that is why i did not like my picture being taken! my face was also pretty red so it looked like a mini balloon LOL!

Well, gone are my days of looking bad in pictures, these days 9 out of 10 of my pictures turn out good. Now, I'm not bragging but I'll tell you like anything else, it takes practice.
Well after watching countless episodes and seasons of "America's next top model" I have learned a bit. So the next time my mom asks me "what will you ever learn by watching so much TV?" This would be a good answer to give.
Well, the only thing you need to figure out is what your good side is. And the only way you could do that is "trial and error". Well I would suggest, if you have a mobile that has a camera, then get to work, take you pictures when you get dressed to go out, when you wake up before you go to sleep, that way you'd really know what expression is good for you, and what is your good side, should you lean your face to the right or to the left, how much should you smile and all that. It's your phone, delete the ones you don't like, and keep the rest, my phone is filled with my pictures and now I take pretty good pictures even when someone else is taking them.
Kinda reminds me of the episode of "Friends" where Chandler makes that weird face for his photos, ha ha, you don't wanna be like that...

I'm glad you're good with a camera!! i really wish i were too. If you say that it takes some practice, maybe i could get better as well....but i don't think so LOL.

Yeah, sure you can, I think anyone can take a good picture, just like the most beautiful person can have bad pictures. Like the wrong side, bad angle and it can come really bad, so the opposite is also true. Once you have your "face" down, your good site, then taking pictures becomes a joy. I find that if I'm serious and not smiling then I look angry, and if I smile too much I look goofy, so I had to find the middle ground and smile just enough without showing my teeth at all, and now that's like my "look" for all pictures and it does suit me.

My wife is very much like that, I love taking pictures of her and my daughter but because she's so worried about looking bad in the picture she usually forces a smile or grimaces (or flat-out refuses to have a pic taken!).
I don't think I look very good in pictures, but for family snaps I just try to relax and be as natural as possible. Nothing looks worse than a fake 'photo smile'.

Well i am not worried about it, but the fact is that when i take a look at the pictures i look bad LOL. And it's curious because i know i am not ugly. Anyway i know i should stop being so self conscious about pictures.

hii lightninstrike,
there is a great saying " beauty lie in the eyes of the beholder".it all depends on our thinking and imagination.i can't say i am beautiful or photogenic but ya i look pretty in photographs.i too had the same problem with me long back.you can't even imagine how much consious i feel about myself, not only infront of camera but in real life too.but then one of my friend cleared my doubts.
what really makes us look beautiful is happiness.if we are happy from inside and have positive thoughts, then no matter how ugly we are actually we will appear beautiful to everybody and we can feel it ourself. i had not thought about this concept.but when i heard about it i tried implementing and i found the result amazing.it really works.and onething never underestimate yourself.whatever we are and how we look its the creation of god.so we should never feel bad or embarrased about our appearance.one day it will fade away what will stay forever is a pure heart full of love that can be given to everybody.
so i can say i like my pictures and they are beautiful in any way.

with all my modesty I must admit that I don't look bad in pictures... just in some of them... but those are very well hided:)... but with the risk of repeating myself I must say that in general pictures are not telling the truth;)... I keep telling that to myself... i hope that some day I'll understand:P

hehe, i am glad you think that about your looks before a camera...and it's fine to think so, no need for modesty.

I always, always look bad in snaps even though I'm quite sure I'm much better in real. I sneak away whenever I can when there's a chance somebody's going to take a shot. There's only one picture of myself I have in which I'm looking fairly nice and I've proudly set it up in my drawing room. At least I have SOMETHING to tell the new people I meet when I grow up that I really wasn't altogether that bad. I guess it's mostly just because of the kind of lightning they throw on you. On photogenic faces, it mostly reflects off well. On mine, it's deflected in all odd directions like from the holes and craters on the moon!

I know what you mean. I never like myself in posed picture. But, like you, I have seen the occassional picture that I had no idea was being taken and was okay with the way I looked. I'll bet you are just too hard on yourself though.

Hi LightninStike I take terrible pictures I look so bad in pictures. I tend to look bigger washed out and just plain bad in pictures. My friend on the other hand looks very good in pictures she looks like a different person in a good way in pictures I look like a different person in a bad way. I don't know why.

i think you and me have something in common. I am definitely not photogenic - every picture ive had - especially driver's license, other id cards, even videos - i look completely different to how i look in the mirror. In fact, in videos i look like a criminal hahahaha talk about a mugshot lol!

Oh youre not photogenic I guess is what you mean... I dont look pretty because Im not pretty actually but I look like myself when I take picture of myself. I guess you just have to be prepare dutring picture time so that you look fresh and good in the picture. ANd I believe that there are certain pose that we can do that we will look good and feel good when we take picture. Do you have a cellphone with camera? If you have then I guess you just have to picture yourself and do some pose..experiment... so you will find the perfect angle that you want and will look good into you.

I'm not a photogenic person and I have come to expect that my photos will not look so great. I look much better in person I think. I often used to envy those who photograph well, but now I'm much less vain about myself.
Many models who photograph very well really aren't that pretty in person so perhaps you have to trade one thing for another.

I never look good in pictures, at least not in my eyes. Ever since I gained weight from my pregnancies I've thought of myself as looking really bloated in photographs.

I sometimes think like that and shun taking pictures, but when I look back at the many hundreds of photos taken with me inside, especially from my holidays, I thought they don't look that bad. In fact, some turn out quite good. At least, I look good in them.
Maybe you are too self-conscious when it comes to taking pictures, such that you are not your natural self when posing. Then you end up looking worse than you should normally. Next time someone takes a photo with you inside, make a point to look at the camera and smile a sweet smile. Then you may find that you will end up looking good in the photo. Practise at home by standing in front of the camera and smiling to yourself. That may help.

I almost never look good in photos and it has always been that way. I like to say that I don't translate well into 2 dimensions. In a strange twist one of the best photos of me is in an old passport, I never would have guessed that would happen. Of course, like most people, my driver's license photo is always incredibly terrible.

well but licenses and documents' pictures are a different category...it's almost impossible not to look horrible at them LOL. I remember that i looked like a terrorist in one of those pics...was really funny.
