British Muslims Rejecting Terrorism

I just watched a piece on Sky News on how 'Muslim communities across the UK have reacted angrily to what they regard as the distorted and illegal acts of a tiny minority of extremists'.
Then the presenter introduced Humaz Yousaf of the Muslim Council of Scotland and asked 'Is there an understanding within YOUR Muslim community of just how much damage is being done to the name, reputation and perception of Islam by those committing these acts of terror?'
To which Yousef replied 'Absolutely, I think what we have to understand is that the Muslim community... were not only feeling as disgusted, we were feeling more disgusted with the actions being carried out in our name, we were thinking "Oh no, people are going too think that we condone these actions".'
Yousef also stated that 'the Muslim communities will need to have a period of introspection, an honest debate within it's self to say there is a problem, there is some kind of disaffected youth, there is a lot of indoctrination and brainwashing going on.'
The interview was longer but I just thought it would interest anyone who wants to hear Muslims rejecting terror.
I commend Sky News for broadcasting that interview (I'm surprised they would, they're part of News Corp like Fox News), but my guess is it won't be made headline news and it probably won't even be shown or quoted again, so people will still repeat the claims that Muslims don't condemn the terrorists.
There are also clear statements on the Muslim Council of Britain website: www.mcb.org.uk

Definately sreejithsreenivas, so do I! I don't believe an entire religion would agree with terrorism.

islam does not support killing of any innocent people regardless of their beliefs and faiths. Islam is a religion of peace and anybody who thinks he can please The God (Allah) by causing terror in others life is actually misunderstanding Islam. At the same time we need to look at the reasons causing people think to the extreme. Understanding of the reasons of a problem is perhaps the first step towards solving it.

Hello 4ftfingers, thanks for your post and leting us know
the current devolopement in UK muslim community.Though I
am not a muslim myself but I have deep respect for each and every religion.I would like to add my views here. Jesus or
Gautam Buddha or Allah have never wrote any books with their
own hand.Positive soules loves humanbeings, humanity, creation, peace and cannot preach destruction and anarchy.Do you
believe any prophet can advice or preach for destruction or
Jehad? Not possible. Some people in every religion has distorted it for their own sake. There could be several
religion in this earth but God is one.

Hello my friend, thank you for your very true words! All text is written by person. It is not immune to missinterpretation - for whatever reasons - selfish or honest confusion.
So we must keep an open mind and not ignorantly believe that all Muslims want to harbour terrorists. To me it's no different form the other forms of prejudice, we have made intollerable.

yep, i also have a muslim friend who feels the same way. it's unfair that we categorically call muslims terrorists, or at least brand them with this image. because of these terrorist attacks, they have been discriminated. he says that not all muslims are into war and terrorism, in fact only a minority of them are into that. i'm a christian and he's a muslim but we put our differences behind and actually advocate for peace.

Exactly. I am Christian too but if we reject terrorism, we must reject terrorism of all kind!
That includes discrimination against Muslims, because of the sadistic acts carried out by others under the Muslim name.

Great post am glad to see something from the positive side of the coin. Not sure if the website is down or what but the link you provided doesnt seem to go anywhere for me. Also if you could find a written transcript of the interview somewhere on the web that would be great also. Thanks for the positive post.

I believe this. I would like to see it shown more by the media, but unfortunately for some reason we don't get that side of the argument.

Me too my friend! I used to be very sceptical of how peacefull Muslim people were as a whole. Then I met some Muslims at college and found them to be very decent people! They are now some of my best mates, I'm glad I got to know them and understand their feelings towards terrorism, which is exactly how Mr Yousef feels. :)
