i try to save as much as i can. but there's always emergency expenses so my savings always gets disrupted. my job pays just enough to sustain my daily needs and my baby's expenses. i could get to save 1/3 of my salary but that would be spent on visits to my baby which i could only do once a month. so basically, i could only save minimum amount each month.

It is always good to be able to put aside some of your salary as savings.
One never knows when ready cash will come in handy when the need arises.
One way is to monitor your expenditure. If you can do without that latte, do without. Going without one latte a week will save you about $20 a month already!
The other way is to force yourself to save by buying some sort of investment savings plan where the premiums are deducted from your income directly before you can even get a chance to spend it. That way, when you retire, you would have at the very least put aside some monies to enjoy your later years. ;)

I used to save only what ever is left at the end of the month before the next payday.
This is usually very little or none at all for most months of the year.
Now that I am married, my priorities have changed. Gone are the days where I spend without a care for tomorrow.
Now whenever I want to spend on something, I will think twice. Saving is the first thing that is done when the pay get credited.
It is the only way to ensure that both my wife and I are provided for in future. Be it spend on kids or not, having some liquid cash is always better than spending every last dime on material things.

I tried to save as much as i can but due to many obligations, bills, tuition fees everyday expenses and other. Well i am planning to save 20 % of my income because we will be having our increase this July its not really big but i will save it anyway. Our income is just a minimum im a govt employee so it depends on your salary grade, if you have high salary grade your income is much better and im just in the average. How about you did you save already?

Go for the saying "Pay Yourself First." What you need to do is to have an account where you dump 20% of your pay cheque into at the end of every month and not be able to touch that money. Then you have to force yourself to live on the rest of your pay cheque. Its much easier said than done.
At one time, when I was married, my wife and I had a single savings account where I dumped money into and let it simmer. We were both joint account holders and could not touch that money with each other's consent. As such the money grew. - Unfortunately we hit a rough patch - the money had to be touched and we are no longer married.
Anyway - best of luck with the savings plan - may you prosper as you should.

My deepest respects to you. You must be a really disciplined person and I believe you will enjoy a decent retirement while the rest of us undiciplined people still struggle in our twilight years. Good for you!

nil, none, nada, zero.... I hope I can do that thing called saving..., but I have so many things going on right now that needs spending. I usually spend all my extra income aside from my regular baon during the first week after payout. I wish I have a bigger salary though..., We're undergoing company evaluation. Wish me luck. I hope I get promoted. Cheers! Happy Posting :)

Hello! I am a student right now as well as working as an advisor in a site. But am working as an advisor just because I like doing that & I also earn extra money for that. I earn more than $100 in a month there. So, I don't have any special kind of source of income as am not working fulltime. So, till now I have bought some presents for my parents & brother from the extra money I earn by advising people. But I have never spent even a penny on myself & instead I have saved all that money in my bank account because my dad spends money on my expenses lol!...vanii^_^

I was doing a great job saving a lot of my income. However, then my wife left me and I had a huge amount of bills. Now I do not save anything really. I am basically making ends meet and do well to stay out of the red each month. :(
cheers.

I try to save 10% of everything I earn. I read in the "Richest Man in Babylon" that this was the way to build a savings pile and I was actually quite good at it last year. I was proud about having reached a certain savings target by the year's end.
However, towards the end of the year, I found myself spending money rapidly and somehow whenever I get money, I save it, then someone who is supposed to pay me takes his or her own sweet time to pay up and before you know it the savings pile get depleated very qucikly.
It is a curious situation. I am self-employed and so savings are very important to tide me through the times when I'm low on cash. On the other hand, its nearly impossible to set straight savings targets when income is not guarenteed. Still its really important to save for ones one benefit.

Ok, I am going to laugh now--ha,ha. Seriously, our budget is so tight right now that the only savings we have is the change jar. And then when it does get full, I end up having to cash it and use it for a bill. There just is never any money left over for extras or emergencies.

I've never figured up how much we save from our income. But, I think it's closer to 10% of total income. Recently, we've had less income in the house, so we haven't been saving any money at all. Right now, we're frantically cutting expenses and looking for other ways to bring in money. Once we get our income established again, we'll try to funnel some of the savings into an account for emergencies.

Right now I'm forcing myself to save 4%. It is touch though with the bills. But it is a good thing, because otherwise I will spend that 4%. When an emergency comes up, I won't have anything. Plus I have a little one on the way. I don't want to struggle with bills and such.
