I'm So Mad!

So my last day at my old job was Friday, technically it was SUPPOSED to be Tuesday, but since Monday was a holiday anyway, my company just paid me out for Monday and Tuesday and told me to have a nice extra long weekend.
On Tuesday I got a phone call about a job, I went for the interview and they offered me the position. I told them I had another interview on Wednesday and wanted to go to it to be fair (it had been set up for almost 2 weeks). The lady seemed fine with it and told me to give her a call after it was all done to let her know what I'd decided, and if I wanted to, could start Thursday (TODAY).
I gave her a call yesterday afternoon, and told her I'd love to accept her offer, and all of a sudden she's flip-flopping. She tells me she has to 'confer' with her brother (who's part owner) and will 'get back' to me either today (last night) or tomorrow (today).
I'm even more mad because I passed up 3 phone calls for jobs Wednesday and Thursday (that to be fair, I only planned to work temporarily to bring money in) because she had specified on Tuesday that I had the position to start Thursday if I wanted it.
So here I am, on my 6th day off work, which was supposed to be my first day BACK to work, and I don't have a job of any sort lined up because somewhere between Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon something happened with the one I wanted, and she seems unwilling to tell me what.
I don't know what to do. Maybe I should call the other jobs back, maybe I should wait until this afternoon and call her and find out one way or another, or maybe I should just start pounding the pavement and find something else to hopefully start tomorrow or Monday.
I just don't know what to do.

Wow, that is a frustrating situation! I really feel for you!
In this case, you might want to consider whether you want to work for this person at all! While obviously you wish to get in a job as soon as possible, if you have other options then perhaps the flip-flopper isn't for you. After all, if she's going to be this way about everything, working for her might be very annoying!
I guess really it depends on how quickly you're going to sink if you don't find something else too though!

wow sorry to hear that, why not try and call the other people back? what have you got to loose? you could just say that the other position didnt work out and you are free. the worst they can say is no...but i think i would do that before i pounded the pavement.
good luck, let me know what happens

I would call back on some of the offers you had and start applying for jobs. I don't think I would want to work for this other place since they seem to be so uncertain about what they are doing. Theycould at least be honest with you about whats going on instead of giving you the run around.

wow, bree, that's a tough one. apparently the employer didn't appreciate being put on a back burner. sounds pretty selfish and unprofessional to me. i'm sure that if the tables were turned, she would want the same respect that you were trying to show in keeping your other appointment. i would question whether i wanted to work for an employer with those standards. on the other hand, if it was a job you really wanted i would give them a call real soon. good luck. i'm sure things will work out for you.

This sorta happened to me once. After three interviews for a crappy job I was told that I had the job (reason: noone was applying cause it sucked so much). Fine. Then a day later I got a call from a lady sounding all high and mighty I had to go to a fourth interview. Like they weren't sure after three other interviews if I was good enough for a sucky job you can't get anyone else to do. I said I wasn't interested anymore and left it at that. I always see listing for a position with their company today cause noone wants to work for them. I would look at other options and phone them. At the very least you will know where you stand. Good Luck! ;)
