In my previous discussion about animals and souls, someone stated that rocks can have a soul also. What do you think? Does rocks/minerals have a special meant to be that is like a life for them?Sure they have some kinds of metaphysics, that is why they are used in many magik practices. Are them in your culture/beliefs in any spiritual/religious form? I am thinking of the Kaaba for muslims, what is it exactly? Why is it worshiped or sacred/holy? Also there is the Sinai for christians and jews, isn't it a rock after all? Why did God chose this place? I think it is because this wonderful place do have some special metaphysics good for a conection with the deity. What other examples do you know and what do you think about them?

I don't think that rocks have souls any more than each grain of sand, every pebble or an entire mountian do. But I do think that every creation in the universe is connected and that everything vibrates some kind of energy or force. I don't think this has anything to do with religion, at least in my way of thinking, but God is present in some form in all of creation. You can pick up any stone or rock and choose to give it some power for yourself. And I don't believe that any one spot of ground or place is any more sacred than any other. That is only a way of thinking and has no real basis. All of earth, and the universe, is sacred and there is nothing that can dispute this claim.

Interesting answer, thank you. I would add a question: If, as you said, we pick up a stone and choose to give it some power for ourselves, will it work? I mean, maybe you can project your mind in that stone somehow so that you can use it as communication with God or spiritual things?

I think you could use a stone as a reminder of something, like to think good thoughts or to be thankful for something. In this way, we have given it some form of value that is special to us. Or, you could say it has the power to help us remember. But as far as wishing upon that stone to have a million dollars, I have my doubts that it would have much power to grant your wish.

Interesting answer. But your "million dollars" example can't be accomplished through other religious powers neither, in my opinion because it is an egoistic wish. I think religious wishes are about love. That brings to me a new question: would that rock have some power towards love or comunication with God, like a prayer?

Minarals have vitality and that's why they are useful for our body! All the cultures have stones for worship! Religions have figures and sculptures as well as deities images made out of stones! It is said that manifestation tookplace after the formation of earth, the land! And the stones are the hardest form of land! The land had the possibilities to form and to make the figures with the help of other elements: That's why there are five basic elements come up: Earth, water, air, fire and the sky! The evolution took place with the formation of tiny life forms whose body element had the earthen element with the synchronization of other elements! But the figure formation and clear visibility was due to earth element! If we can grasp and understood that the possibility of all the forms of life was lying in the earth then there would not be wrong guess... So we can say THE SOUL OF THE EARTH while talking about rocks and stones and big high rised formations of earthen elements!

I think this is not Oparin Thery, this is ancient theory established on earth in a different form by different cultures Well rocks and perticular area may be a soul! Even the nation has soul!

OH! This is a great enlightment you have thrown here! So the "Oparin theory" would relate organic beings' souls to inorganic ones... About your last sentence, I understand that maybe rocks and stones have a collective soul, as you stated for bees in the other discussion?

Ok, I know many cultures talked about that before. Particulary the Yoruban "Orogenia" which I like to use to impress atheists. But I also like to call it Oparin theory because that way some skeptical people would understand better what I am talking about, and that way I make a little bridge between science and spirituality (at least it was my intention). So I conclude everything is made of souls everywhere... right? That makes me re-think what is the purpose of souls. For me souls are the authors of free will decisions, does this definition fit for you?

You have a point with the rock conection, Caves have also been used in spiritul rituals. take the temple mount in Jerusalem, where curently the dome of the rock sets, I is realy a cave intrence, also many mountains and rocks assosiated with God, Mt. Sinai, Mt of Olives, and the Kabals black rock beleived to be a metiorite. Most world religions have strong ties with Mountains,Caves, and espeicaly metiorites. But do they have souls? No I do not beleive they have souls becouse no life is in them, The word soul (nephesh) from hebrew concerning human souls is only for the living souls of mankind. Animal souls are different from mans soul, but they do have one becouse life was also given to them from the creator. The spark of life is the soul, in geek terms the soul is the opperating disk of the living. Scientificly, and metaphisicly rocks have properties, mass, gravataional and magnetic. Spititualy is something bestowed to rocks by man and not the creater. So I beleive rocks have a perpose in creation, they have no spritual relivence or souls, My oppenion only.

I feel more or less the same like you. And don't worry for others here, I have told all my friends that my discussions are open to all religions and philosophies, and that I try to understand and even believe in them all. I have already thought on old religions as metaphores of very modern philosophical ideas, and I came to the conclusion that they were also right and that what Jesus and others teached is the same, so there is nothing wrong on them. I have even thought on the possibility of believing in something invented: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1096415.aspx . I'll research on your lines and I look forward to share more!

There is a reason why the anciants (pre Judiesm and Christianity) put so much imphasis on "Mountains of God" meterorites and caves. But I have to be carfull in explaining it as to not offened the masses. The Gods of anciant, from any religion of man from the beginning of time has Two distinct "gods", Those of the Earth, and those that came from the hevans. Why is the question you must ask. the over simplified version that everyone wants to beleive is that "they worshiped the sun moon and stars and thought that they were gods becouse the sun brought life and the moon told the times of seasons. Well thats fine, but thats just the symbolic mythical picture used by the anciants to understand and convey the mysteries of the gods. Then theres the gods of the earth and underworld. We are told thes are mythical creatures of the imagination. But again they are picture images of the truth. These gods and heros were doing things unimaginable, Flying. Today we think nothing about hearing someone say I just flew in, but how would yousay that 7000 years ago with limited skills of conveying thought, and uselay no writen word, So the stories are handed down in song and fables. The only way to convey the idea of flight is by given the person wings. The only way to convey a ting flying again is by some earthly picture, like a horse or other animal that conveys the imagry, and in later a chariot. The gods of anciant were real people, however the true identity of these need to be looked at with great care not to dismissed as whim and imagenation. But i do beleive their is a Creator God, how ever I do beleive as the biblke states there were faulse gods as well. So who are the gods of the earth and the gods of the hevens? This is where the assosiation of metiorites, caves and mountains come from. We are told by countless cultures and religions about the gods comming down, and about visitations of the gods, about the winged ones. These are the gods from heven. Most religions say thes gods are helpful, but the gods of the earth are crule and rule the underworld, and reign terror over the men of the earth. These are usely also called the children of the gods, meaning they came from the first gods, the gods of heaven. These gods usely didnt think much of men, they killed them, hunted them tourchered them and even ate them. Some we are told trained men in the art of war, metalergy, mathmatics amd "sorcery" or from the greek "Pharmicia" where we get the word pharmicy. Some of thes earthly gods were the offspring of gods and humans. Take one minute to concider these stories are true? but how? they are just made up stories right? maybe. but what if they aren't? well thats enough for now I guess I have probaly made alot of enimies with these thing I have said. Becouse some how I am telling them they beleive a lie. But like I said, I beleive in God and his Christ, However I know the rest of the stoy of the others, the other gods.

Hi there missak! I cant believe you actually did make a topic on rocks having souls LOL! Anyways, I do not think this has anything to do with culture and beliefs, as most religion only praise living creatures or a God of some kind which we can relate and communicate with. For example, Egyptians praise cats, Christian praise God, Buddhists praise Buddha and other "gods", Greek religion praise their Mythological gods, Zeus etc.... But i have not seen a religion or heard about it, which they praise ROCKS OR MINERALS, so i do not think Rocks have souls, and religion does not affect your though on this issue. PS: Muslims do not eat pigs... etc... I have always found the universe, earth, planets, EVERYTHING NOT MAN MADE to be very interesting, i found it interesting even at a young age, i would used to just stare at the blue sky, wondering why it is blue, stare at the moon seeing it as a spherical ball.... Everything is just too, well, coincidental... who could all these things which allow us to LIVE on this planet be due to "CHANCE", i usually ask athiest this question... =D

" i have not seen a religion or heard about it, which they praise ROCKS OR MINERALS" is the Earth herself not just a big rock? a lot of people worship the Earth herself, or the moon, which is a rock too.

I'm very in tune with rocks. it's a strange thing. I don't tend to beleive this type of rock does this, and that type of rock does that. but I do find that certain stones I have do have certain effects. I wouldn't say it's lies, rather that some people feel a certain way about rocks. my cousin used to have a peice of amethyst I couldn't relax in the same room as. it made me really edgey. we had a game with it though. she'd hide it, and I'd find it because I just knew where it was from the frazzled feeling I got from it. for absorbing negativity, I don't know how they can do it, but they certainly seem to, especially used in healing.

No i am afraid you are wrong.... the earth is not just a big rock, it is a planet, with water and a biosphere (living things), atmosphere (air), lithosphere (rocks) and a hydrosphere (water). So technically no earth is not just a rock. Some people believe that certain types of crystals or minerals "take the bad luck away" by absorbing the "negative energies" which surrounds you, but personally i think it is just a load of lies which originated from one person and spread across...

Spinoza, believed that every atom was spiritual and concious. Human conciousness came about because the atoms that composed it were arranged in the right way. The total collection of atoms everywhere, for him, was God. So, for a pantheonist, like Spinoza, even rocks are spiritual. all the best urban

Rocks? I wouldn't know about that, I highly doubt it because to me it sounds unrealistic. (since rocks aren't living) This is just my opinion as I think certain will, except those which aren't a live. Souls are among the things which live and I would actually like to hear views on rocks having them. ~Joey

I don't believe any inanimate object has a soul. I do believe it has a certain kind and amount of energy. Everything, after all, is made up of molecules and molecules are not stagnant or non-moving. There may certain kinds of energy that are more responsive to particular things. Look at magnets, for instance. Perhaps there is energy that attracts or repels to a certain degree in all minerals. We also know there are colors in minerals that can't be seen with regular lighting, but show up in black light. Hundreds of years ago we didn't know about germs or atoms or molecules. Who knows what we don't know now?

Very interesting point for metaphysical research! The question would be, do you think some minerals/cristals would be more related to God than others? Or maybe they would permit an easier conection with spirituality?

I don't believe that inanimate objects have a soul, but I do believe that they contain a great deal of energy and this is why there is so much spirituality attached to them. As a Reiki healer, minerals are often used in healing sessions because they are believed to contain the energy to help heal or protect in various instances. Personally, I carry kyanite with me. It has a very strong protective power and it doesn't need to be cleansed if I pass it on to another person.

"Spirituality" is about spirits. I understand spirit is the same of soul, if you find some difference I would love to hear it. Then I conclude if minerals have spirituality but have no spirit, are they like "homes" for other spirits? Or what is their "energy" about? Thanks for sharing about kyanite, this is very interesting. Can you explain a little more about Reiki?

Yes, I've learned, very interesting! Thank you! I have a few questions, I hope you don't mind, it is just my learning manner: -I have heard the Kaaba is a metiorite, is this true? Another version says it is a temple built by Abraham, is that the muslim version? -What is the relation of God (or Allah, for me it is the same) and the Kaaba: did Allah send it to us? Did Allah inspired how to build it? -If God/Allah chose specially this rock/building, it must be because the Kaaba has something special, right? Some kind of godly energy maybe? -Are there other rocks or mounts important in Islam? If yes, what is their importance?
