Does it taste better to drink soda/pop from a metal can, or a plastic bottle?

First off, for everyone who wants to tell us that an oocasional soda is not good for our health, please don't. This is not a discussion to tell us what we are doing wrong. But if you have anything relevant to this topic, please do join in. : )
Growing up, my mom always bought two liters, when we had pop. My sister, dad, and I preferred the cans, although the two liters were cheaper. We thought it always tasted colder and more refreshing in a can, than in plastic. Even in a 20 0z. bottles, we all thought the soda tasted better in metal cans. And pardon my usage of the words pop and soda. We called it pop growing up, but now I find myself saying soda.
So what do you think? If both the soda in plastic and and the soda in metal cans are in the same fridge, which one tastes better when you drink it? Or do you not detect a difference?

I have to be different! I like mine in a glass, over ice! lol! If I had to choose between the two, however, I think soda pop (note the two words together--how we used to use it when I was growing up.) gets colder in the can, therefore tastes better to me. My daughter will not drink soda from the plastic bottle. She says it has a different taste from the canned. I can't tell, myself.

I drink it in a glass too. But even after it is poured, I can tell whether it is from a plastic bottle, or a metal can. My grandma calls it soda pop, and so does my grandpa. I think one of my uncles does as well. Maybe it is more than just a geographic thing, but a generation change. I wonder what teens say now. On second thought, teens today are drinking energy drinks. And in a bottle or in a can, I don't want them!

the reason i dont add ice to mine is because it gets watered down real fast and im the type of person who drinks on my pop all day. LOL. i dont care if its room temperature or not, ill drink it as long as its not watered down

that is such an interesting topic. we were just talking about this at work the other day. i prefer bottles only because to me the cans to me taste very flat after just a few minutes. i am a big fan of pepsi and i love a nice tall glass of that great tasting drink, but i want mine in a plastic bottle

I don't like drinking from an aluminum can but if I have to because that is all that's available I have to use a straw. I don't like the "taste" that I get from the aluminum. Sometimes I will drink from a plastic bottle but usually put it in a glass.

well I will join anyway because maybe my answer will not be relevant. I think you are right I have felt some difference, I think it would be for the metal thing and some reaction inside of the cans.

It really depends on the soda for me. Coke tastes the same to me no matter how it's served. I like Sprite in a bottle or out of a tap. I only like Mountain Dew in bottles. Dr Pepper I only like out of a tap. I like Diet Coke in either bottles or cans, but not out of a tap.
I'm super picky when it comes to my soda.

I think that pop tastes colder in a metal can than a plastic bottle. I also grew up calling it pop and then I moved out east where they call it soda. Now I call it by the name of the pop I am drinking. Anyway, I think metal cans offer a colder better tasting soda.

I always drink from a can because I'm allergic to plastic bottles. And I tell if it was stored in plastic, even if I didn't see the bottle.

I can't use any hard plastic bottles/dishes/containers at all. I'm okay with baggies or mushy plastic.

LOL, one poster suckered me. They asked in their post what I drank in the evening and I said a soda. They replied by telling me the awful evils of drinking soda and told me to drink all water. What they didn't know was that I drink 16 glasses of water a day. (medicine makes me thirsty) So after that, I wanted to make sure no one got attacked for a silly reason. : )

I don't know why people are always trying to get people to force their way of life on others. Isn't that so annoying? I used to get a bunch of grief all the time til I started putting them in their place.I also drink water ,juice and crystal light and I think I deserve some carbonation, lol

I would prefer a bottle to a metal can. I can taste difference. Though a nice, old fashioned glass bottle would be most excellent :-)

CAN! I drink Dr. Pepper out of the can. I will drink it out of a bottle - but it just isn't the same. I don't know if it is all in my head or if they really do taste different!
But the best way to have a soda is the old fashion way - out of a glass bottle. They are hard to find around here, but when I do find them I snap them up and drink their heavenly goodness!

You needed to give us a third option...in a cup with ice, like from the convenience store or local Sonic. Drinking from the can or even from a bottle makes me burp! LOL. And I think that a fountain coke is better...got to have my ice! And I can't just pour my canned coke over ice at home...it doesn't taste the same! LOL

When I was growing up, we got one bottle of Pepsi a year. On Christmas there was always an eight pack of bottles under the tree. There were eight people in our family,so we each got one. The bottles back then were glass and were taken back to the store for the return of the deposit.
I wish you could still purchase it in glass, it was much better tasting as well as the fact that it got colder in glass. I cant explain it but it did. Today I drink from a can. I hate plastic.

Is it enjoyable to drink anything out of plastic? I am trying to think now whether or not I have seen pop in a plastic bottle. Oh my gosh of course yes your right. LOL I must of been having a brain freeze. I don't know that plastic would affect the taste of pop but it sure wouldn't be that enjoyable for me to drink out of a plastic bottle. It has to be metal or glass! I have heard some people say they can taste the plastic but I have to wonder if it is the added flavor of the metal that makes a cold pop taste so good in a can? Do you think so?
PS.. did you get my email asking about your boots?

Wow, the debate rages on I see.
I grew up drinking soda out of the cans, and I really do think that it tastes better that way.
If it doesn't taste better, it is at least much colder, and stays colder longer than the plastic does.
Bottles, as in glass ones (good luck finding them) I think leave the least after-taste. But all in all I prefer the after-taste of a can much more than that of a plastic bottle.

I dont really notice a difference between them. Im a sodaholic so soda is soda. However, when it comes to a 2 - liter bottle. I can have the first glass right after opening it and thats it. It just taste flat to me even after say an hour.
