Now as you probably know, one of my favourite topics is food and today I made some baba ganoush as I had a hankering for it. It's a dip made of eggplant, tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice, parsley, garlic and you can also use pine nuts for a bit of variation. I love this better than hommus. Any other fans of this dip out there?

Geia sou Aidonia - I didn't know you were born in Turkey - where in Turkey? I have been all over Turkey. It's good to see there are some baba ganoush fans out there. I absolutely love this and also alot of other middle eastern dishes.

my daughter and I absolutely love hummis, but I have never made baba ganoush nor did I know it was a true food. I guess I thought it was something to do with Ricky Ricardo of "I love Lucy" *shrug* We will have to look up a recipe and give this a try.

I wasn't sure what Baba Ganoush was either until it was introduced to us. We have a restaurant here in our town called Baba Ganoush so I always wondered what the heck it was.

I have always wondered what baba ganoush was made out of... unfortunately I don't like eggplant. Everything else sounds good though.

I'm a fan now, after reading this. Yum. I am pretty sure I have had it before and just did not know what it is called. I'm trying to imagine the pine nut variation. Not sure I would like it as much, but I would definitely give it a try.

I've never had this dip, but it sounds like it might be good. So what do you eat with it? Veggies? Chips? Bread? I do like Hummus. It's quite good. My co-worker eats it all the time for a mid-day snack between lunch and dinner or so.

You can have it with bread and pita chips....it's got a nice flavour you should savour so don't dip anything into it that already has flavour - like flavoured chips for example. If you like hommus, you will like baba ganoush - the eggplant has to be grilled or put in the oven first (don't try making it with freshly cut, uncooked eggplant).

My daughter was introduced to it by a friend and insisted we pick some up at the grocery store. I love it, both my daughter do. We take pita bread and rip pieces off and dip them in the dip. It is very good.

I am addicted to this stuff! A co-worker and one of my dearest friends was having it for lunch one day and he said here try this, he took off a chunk of pita and dipped it in and handed it to me. I honestly thought it was some sort of pate because it was reddish purplish brown in colour. I said no I don't like eating guts, he laughed and then had some himself and said "don't you trust me?" He looked at me with big puppy dog eyes so of course I said yes, give it to me.... AND OH MY BLOODY GOD!!! It was like food from the gods! mmmmmm I know buy it on a weekly basis and love to eat it with whole wheat pita bread. I am definitely going to try to make it myself as it is kind of expensive here in my area and often tiems not in stock in every grocery store.

Hi PunkyMcPunk - I agree with you, it's like a food from the gods...but I wonder why your version was reddish purple brown - the ones I have had (and made)are kind of creamy coloured - khaki.

hi urbangirl, my friend. This Baba Ganoushi thing seems to make my mouth water already. How do you go about making it ? Can I request you the recipe and the method of cooking it through PM, in return I can teach you a Filipino dish which I believe you will like. PM me if agreeable, my friend.
