Growing one's self-esteem and confidence...

I'm in a really positive state at the moment. Coming up with new hopes and dreams is always a good thing and I'm feeling like anything is possible and I can do and be almost anyone I want. I'm an extremely quiet and shy person with pretty low self-esteem and confidence. My family was pretty negative towards me and about me, but others I have come across in life seem to think the world of me. I'm slowly starting and trying to believe that. The trick will be trying to maintain the thoughts and to also put myself out there on the line. To not say to much and let the negative side of me show and look like a fool to management at work, but to say enough to show interest in things and to handle possible rejection and fear of failure. So give me your good stories and anecdotes. Were you once the quiet, shy person with confidence issues and you've found your way and turned into a beautiful butterfly? How did you manage it?

I'm still shy and quiet but I have gotten a bit better. I seem to manage it by focusing on my work, chores, communities, hobbies and helping others. Seriously working hard really brings me out and I just get better and better with each second. It's quite a rush.

I was only like you in that I was(and am) shy in dealing with people, I always had confidence in my ability in school and at work. I was really shy about asking a girl for a date but I eventually got to were I could do it, even asking some who were just walking across campus in college and that I had seen a couple of times having breakfast alone in a cafe across from campus. So just keep building good thoughts about yourself and keep trying and don't let little set backs bother, even the most confident people have them and like them you just have to keep trying.
