Piracy, like what the other person said.
Malaysia, embarrasingly enough, has one of the highest rates of piracy in the world. This was especially true three to five years ago when a movie released in the States would only make its way here after 3-5 months, so people would rather buy the DVD to watch it. To combat that, they started releasing the movies earlier in Malaysia.
That's the main reason, from what I know. I hope this helps.

Agreed that piracy in this part of the world is rampant.
But the internet has broke that record when it comes to how fast can I see a new movie. You can now download any movie that has been shown in any part of the world easily as soon as it is released provided a good samaritan take the painstakingly task of copying and uploading it.
And sometimes for people who dont mind inferior quality as long as they get the chance to view the movie earliest, they will take the time to wait for hours to download then see it.
Piracy exist and continue to exist if the pirates can find a copy they can make copies (sound logic enough). Even for the pirates of the internet, if the movie is not available yet in crystal clear audio and video copy, they cant duplicate a DVD quality.
Unless people stop being so "kind hearted" or "vagilante" by posting piracy in the internet, then the levee will not break.
p/s so does the case with Music.

Yup I thinkpiracy is the main reason. When the film is release in the US earlier. Asian countries will have pirated copies in no time at all. So the best way is to release it early, so minimize the piracy then release it in the US where i guess there's minimal piracy involved.

That is kind of weird. Considering that it's a US film, it should have came out in the US first.
The only plausible reason that I can think of that it was "released" earlier in that country is that somehow someone was able to get a leaked copy.

II just don't know too, I think Philippines too get it in quite a while - not to date, but still quite near on the date it should be in cinema. I think the distance does matter, let us just wait for other mylotters' opinion about this thing, thanks, ...!!^^

Like to response to this discussion.
First of all, I am from Malaysia and i saw Transformers only after 6 days it was released over here. Yes that's right on the 4th of July the same day it was released in the US.
But why ask why Malaysia only ? It is not the only country that got the chance to see transformers earlier than US. In fact from the forum in Imdb, half of the world have seen it together with Malaysia.
I am sure some transformers and loaded fanatic may take a plane to this part of the world to be one of the 1st to see it.
But back to your question, I think it has got to be that the movie may probably got its copy here via piracy if it was shown later than the world premiere.
That's i got to say. TQ. Have a good day.p/s the movie is a disappointing to me i some areas, sad to say.
