If you were walking down the street and saw a guy standing by a car at the corner, and he staggered a few steps, peed in the street and got into the car and drove away, would you feel like you should've done something to stop him? What would you have done?

The best, and probably the only thing one can do at a time like that is take down the person's licence plate number, or snap a picture if you are like me and carry a digital camera, and then go to the police and report what you saw.

I wish I'd thought of that. The guy couldn't even stand up straight. He was putting an awful lot of people at risk.

I have called the police on drunk drivers around here more than once. One time a few years ago, I called and gave a license number and the location where the car was and direction it was headed. This was before the laws got so strict, so I'm sure I wouldn't get the same reaction now, but at the time the officer simply said not to worry because the driver was only a couple of blocs from home.

I wonder if the officer forgot that most accidents happen close to home. I hope the guy who peed in the street got home safely and has a horrible hangover roday. Maybe that will teach him a lesson.
