Add extra bags!

I picked this quick tip up from a website on organizing.
At the beginning of each month, put extra trash bags into your trash baskets around the house, like they do in hotels. When it's time to remove the filled trash bag, you'll have a new one right there.
I am just wondering if there are any of you who do this as a way to be more organized around your home. I have noticed it done in hotels and thought it was a good idea but don't do it myself. Do you?

What a fantastic idea sweetheart! I have never thought of or seen this idea before but I think it is a really good one! Since I can't do any housework right now I will pass this advice on to my other half and save him some hassle as the bins fill upQ Thank you honey xxxx

Lol.
How are you feeling, by the way??? Do the pain killers work completely or do you still have some pain?

The only time this is not good is if you have trash that really smells bad, as it will make all the bags in the bottom smell bad as well. I learned to do this when doing some housekeeping work in a nursing home. For the little baskets that use grocery and Wal Mart bags, I put them in one on top of the other, so even the new liner is in place when I take the full one out. For my trash cans that are midsize, I bought a bulk package of rolls of bags at Sam's club. Each trash can has its own roll. It is not the kind of odorous trash that you have if you have diapers and things in the trash.

I do this- I do it at home and at work- It works great as long as the first bag didn't have a hole in it. then if it did all the bags underneath have garbage on them too-
I do this with all the small garbage cans in the house- I swear we have 1 in every room!

I don't in my kitchen trash can because too often a can lid or something cuts or pokes a hole in the bag and garbage leaks onto the bags below :(
I do however do this in my bathroom waste basket and the waste basket by my desk - it does make it easier because if one needs emptied I can just grab it out and don't have to go hunt down a bag.

Yeah, that's interesting! But I think I've never seen it in hotels. Actually some hotels (and some people in their own houses too) don't even use bags inside their trash baskets. I wonder if clean it regularly, and why they do that...
Anyway, that's a cool idea. Thanks for the tip!

You are right about this. I have never stayed in a hotel that put liners in the waste baskets in the rooms. I have only noticed them doing this when I see someone changing a liner of a big trash can in the lobby or somewhere on the grounds.

I have been storing my extra trash bag in the trash ben for several years now. With the kids emptying the trash they donn't always remember to go get a new trash bag and will just throw trash in the ben. I also stuff my plastic grocery bags into one of thoese cute tissue boxes in the bath room and I have one in the kitchen for the bread wrappers. I also keep a tissue box in each bedroom with the plastic bags or the kids will not replace the liner in the trash bens.

What a great and simple idea to save time and be organized! I use the plastic bags from grocery stores in my trashcans rather than buying trash bags. It will be very easy to place several in the bottom for future use! This sure saves running back and forth to the kitchen where I store extra bags. Thanks for a great time saving tip!

hey that's a really good idea! we use trash bags over the trash cans around the house, but yeah, sometimes we discover that we've run out of bags the moment we need to change one. thanks for the tip, i think we'll going to try that one out :)

That's a very clever time saving idea! I should try it out. First I would need to buy those tiny trash cans in every room for this idea to work. I had to get rid of them when my daughter turned two and became more mobile. Otherwise she would try to sit in them. Nowadays, I fear she would consign the kitty cat to a trash can. Perhaps I will get the mini-trash cans just for the laughs they will bring. I will be sure to take lots of pictures though to share with the My Lot friends.

I do this all the time in the bathroom especially. Because the dirty diapers go in there so I take it out often/daily. It's just easier and I don't have to go run and get a bag, it's just right there.
Now in the kitchen I don't because the trash is by the sink and the bags are under the sink on a big roll, so it's not a big deal. I've tried putting bags in the bottom, but there always seems to be a mess in the bottom of the trash can too often, then I end up wiping off all the bags in the bottom. Too much hassel, that's why I don't do that anymore.
My bags are trash a big company would otherwise throw away so it's even better they are free.
I do agree it's very handy to do it where you can.

We've done this for a few years now and it definately makes things easier. No more having to search for bags when you take the trash out. It definately saves time. I think I saw it on an organizing website too a few years back. lol
