I'd like to use Firefox but it's unstable on my XP system. IE works better.
When I run Ubuntu I use Firefox, it's very fast and reliable.

I agree with pointyblue. IE (at least IE6) is more stable than Firefox. Firefox hangs frequently during page transitions, especially here at myLot. It's the only one that I've seen do this. It also crashes occasionally out of the clear blue. Dr. Watson has no explanation for these crashes, other than they are being caused by Mozilla Firefox. :(

Running XP SP2 as well. Ram + cache cleaning ok, Firefox just makes the system unstable. IE or even Opera works perfectly.
On my Linux system (Ubuntu) Firefox is very good -- a lot faster than IE in XP.

That's very odd. Since Firefox 2.0.0.4 (the latest version) my firefox has not crashed at all, and I'm running Win XP SP2. What are you guys running on your systems? Do you have enough ram? How many windows do you open? Clear cache and histories often?
I hope you guys don't mind me asking. It's just that I find this rather weird.

Hi thijsthislb
Other than the large no. of extensions, Firefox is much faster and offers better protection against spyware and viruses than IE. Internet Explorer is highly vulnerable to viruses and spyware attacks.
Other than Firefox, you can try Opera or Safari. Both are better IE in terms of protection and ease of use.

Mozilla says that you can browse "faster" with Firefox; faster than what, they won't say.
Even if you tweak Firefox's settings, it's still not much faster than IE, if at all. The latest version of Firefox also hangs on some sites, myLot being one. IE does not. That's why people say, "believe what you see, not what you hear." Just a word to the wise; no offense intended.
If you want speed, go with Opera. If you want to rely on your browser instead of installing stronger security software, go with Opera. If you want the browser with the smartest password manager, go with Opera.
On the downside, Opera is not compatible with much outside its own widgets. It doesn't support ActiveX controls, it doesn't support SiteAdvisor, and it doesn't support LinkScanner. For these reasons, Opera is not my default browser. It is my primary one, though. Hope this helps!

Firefox tends to load faster than IE when it comes to pages, even if I only have one IE page open and three FF. The three FF will load faster, though IE's initial loading is faster than FF's.

Good for you! Well, I am currently using opera as my main browser. The reason why because it is much faster when compared to other browsers. It has a speed dialing and when you try to go back from your previous visited pages, it will load so easily and quickly. It is also safe to use while surfing the net. However, I also used mozilla and internet explorer when I needed them. Some websites don't load in opera, so I rarely used IE and mozilla as well. Anyway, mozilla and opera browser are among of the safest browsers among others.
Have a nice day and God speed!

I agree that it is much faster then IE, especially when it is tweaked a bit.
Thanks for replying on this post.

I use Firefox mainly, primarily for the tabbed browsing which really helps me. I like to look at a lot of different sites at the same time. Although, firefox doesn't seem to like some websites I frequent, so I'm forced to use IE for them. All in all though, I much prefer Firefox.

Personally, I've never used any other browser outside Internet Explorer, so I wouldn't know much about the others, but I heard Mozilla Firefox is pretty good.

I prefer Firefox. I.E. is too slow and for some reason the Opera text is smaller than that for the other browsers. If I enlarge it, then the text for Firefox is too large. I like the idea of the extensions. I do not have that many, just the colorful tabs, the noscript, but that fox music one disappeared. I will have to close it and find if it will return.
