A friend sent me this note morning and I wanted to pass it on to my friends here ....
MARGARINE was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys.
When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.
It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter.
How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.
DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?
Read on to the end...gets very interesting!BOTH have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other food.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.
And now, for MARGARINE...
* Very high in trans fatty acids.
* Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
* Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
* Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.
* Lowers quality of breast milk.
* Decreases immune response.
* Decreases insulin response.
And here's the most disturbing fact....
HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC...
This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.
Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:
* No flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
* It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value
* Nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.
Why? Because it is nearly plastic.
Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?
Chinese Proverb:
"When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, You have a moral obligation to share it with others."
People don't care how much you know...Until they know how much you care!

Ok, now that's just plain-bad. I think I'll be buying some butter. Actually, a piece of bread and butter sounds pretty good right now.

This is a wonderful post, texas. I am swearing off margarine for life. I was aware that it was not healthy, but I had no idea to what degree it is. I should have paid attention to what my favorite chef said over and over again. Julia Child always said that butter was much more preferable than margarine. That is all she would eat. I grew up on a farm where we had fresh butter all the time, but got into eating margarine after I married and left home because it was cheaper. Thanks for the useful information.

YUK!!
I knew margarine wasn't that great for you for awhile now...and was aware it can actually raise chloresterol levels ..but I didn't know all these other gems of info..yeesh...Butter DOES taste so much better in my mind..and is more natural...You ever notice that with so many of our so-called better foods, the non-fat, low fat, low chloresterol the more ingredients in them? You have to be a scientist to understand all the chemicals in them--for instance regular sour cream vs. "diet" --the diet kind tastes like do-do..nope give me the REAL thing anyday.

Wow, that is very interesting. I think I will go back to butter. That is horrible. It is amazing what they can get away with.

Do you remember when they word on coconut oil was that it was bad for everything, and everyone, and now it is considered to be a health food? I use it, and I use olive oil and I use real butter, I think I have margarine in the freezer.Maybe. I even seldom use solid shortening. I think that the margarines I used were enhanced with milk products, because they would grow mold and such. I cut out everything I can find with trans fats over the last two years.

I can't believe it's not butter! LOL
This email has actually been going around the net for a while and while there are some truths to it, there are also a lot of false statements.

Man that's nasty, omg, i'm going to be sick now that i read this....
Wait, i have a question though....
I'm allergic to butter, severely, so i eat margarine..
But actually just the other day i had to throw out my vat of margarine because i left it out in the sun i guess and forgot about it, and omg it got moldy!!!! can you believe it? I couldn't, i didn't think the stuff could get moldy.
Makes me not want to eat it just knowing it goes moldy, but everything does, and that takes away my apatite...
and knowing it's more dangerous makes me want to keep it far away from my house.....

thanks that was very informative. i'm sure not all of know about this. it's great that butter tastes better than margarine so people will choose this over margarine. margarine costs less though. they should spread these info, it's really helpful and important.

OMG! That is very interesting. I have heard about the transfat etc, but this whole story has me thinking. Even as a kid I loved the taste of butter and margarine. I would even take a bit out of the tub or off the stick and just suck it, yum. I remember a comedy bit that George Carlin did years ago in which he lamented the fact that so many foods would eventually kill us. Sigh, here we go...

Wow that is kinda scarry. I definately thank you for your concern and letting us all know. I never actually ever used margerine but my roomate does. I'm going to let her know RIGHT NOW before she wakes up and spreads it on her bagel.
