With pre-season i just wait till about the 10th july and then start arranging some friendly matches to get players fit. I normally take control of one or two of these matches myself to make sure my first team gets a lot of time under their belt. Apart from making sure i play about 8 friendly games i dont change any training settings or anything like that.

8 games i think thats too much i usually play 2-6 im usually play in short leaguse with 10-12 teams so 8 games its about 1/4 of all the games in the whole seasone, i think if you play too many games in the pre seasone so your player will be tired ealriear then expected.

For pre-season you shud give ur team intensive strength and aerobic training. they might complain a little but it is essential. Once the season starts set it back to hard or normal. Other training shud be given lighter to cope with the intense physical training. Be wary if any players get injured, do not rush him into ur preseason plan. He needs light physical training before he is fully recovered and fit.
I usually let my assistant arrange tours and friendly matches. U shud include ur reserves in ur first team friendly games too. Cause usually the first team players u have is not enuf to play all the games. Its too tiring and they haven't got the shape.

forgot to say..... never be harsh during team talk for friendly matches. just say something like tell them to enjoy and relax and pressure is off. Friendly shud be warming up or test new tactics only. But sometimes i organize friendlies in the mid season for those who are not consistent first team players have some games so they won't lose their fitness and complain too much to be bench. XD

I guess if it is necessary for it to be done than I think it is a good idea somehow. I think it might work out for those who are involve.

Pre season friendly matches is important to the team and player as well. But the most important thing, is to not let your Assistant handled all the friendly matches. Please allocate some time to handle it by yourself because the pre-season friendly matches is the best time for you to try a tactic and assign a particular player to their position. So, they will adapt to your new tactic and will get used to it once the league kick off. If you let your Assistant to handle it, the player have to adjust themselves to different tactic when it comes to the real league. The training can still be the same because hard training will bring an injury risk which surely the last thing you want it happened on your players.
