Mad Moomin strikes again, my cat is definitely loony :-)

Some of you might have read about Moomin in previous discussions. Well after the whole fridge opening incident she has discovered a new game. She now lurks on the bird table, lying in wait for any unwary avian that dares to approach. The other morning there was a dreadful commotion outside and I ran to the back door to see what was going on. Moomin was curled up on the bird table again only this time she was besieged by chattering magpies. Poor cat didn't know which way to turn to escape :-) Finally the magpies ganged up on her and drove her off the bird table and she fled into the kitchen, looking very sheepish and embarassed.
I've never seen birds actually stand up to a cat, have you?

yes.the evil that are blue jays.
they attacked this silver tabby i used to have every chance they got.pecked him on his lil head :(
finally he figured out if he hid between two parked cars in the driveway,he could see them, but they couldn't directly get him.
that cat leaped up at least 5 feet in the air from between the cars and finally got it one day as it was swooping at him.

WOW I guess his revenge was sweet. I know they can be vicious birds sometimes, they pick on the smaller birds too. Hiding between the cars paid off in the end though :-)

Wow, I haven't seen birds gang up on a cat! I know magpies can be a bit viscious as I've heard of them swooping on people (esp. kids) who get close to their nests. Actually, my brother was cleaning some upstairs windows (hanging out of them!) and was attacked by a crow. As he was leaniing somewhat precariously, it really freaked him out. His girlfriend said he got a "crazy, wild-eyed look" and he was still jumpy an hour later when he came to my house. Of course he was ridiculed and called a sissy for the rest of the day and I still sneak up on him and make (bad) crow squawks whenever I get the chance lol.

I know seagulls can attack, and crows too, it must have been quite an experience for your brother. I have never seen birds attack a cat before, Moomin was quite scared and hid in the bedroom for quite a long time after.

I've had a couple of undamaged mice given to me as gifts, I'm expecting the feathery presents any day now - lol

I don't let the cats who have owned me outside, as they are usually great hunters, & the small bird population will go down. As well as rabbits!
I had a small parrot, a specktacled amazon, about 6-8 inches high, who has since passed away, who used to chase my 10 lb cat down the hall!
Magpies, related to crows, are a very intelligent family of birds! I do not doubt they conspired to get rid of this interloper! That must have been something to watch!
I am looking for a cat now, but it has to start as a kitten, so the birds I have now (2 parrots) will be able to establish dominance in the household, & hopefully the kitty will remember & not bother them. I taught my last cat to avoid those beaks, hoefully I can do it again!

I wish I could have caught the whole thing on film, poor Moomin looked so shocked - lol. Moomin usually stalks the birds in the garden, although ihve neveryet seen her actually try to catch one of them.

I have never seen birds attack a cat before. That must have been a sight to see. Your cat sounds like she is a little devil. I must go find your other discussion about the fridge. Aren't cats a wonderful source of entertainment?

Moomin is truly a mad cat, very clever and intelligent but this time I guess the birds just wanted her off the table so they could get to the food. She is very entertaining though, and I love her to bits

Awww Poor Moomin getting bullied by the magpies, poor liitle thing! Maybe that is payback for opening the fridge and eating all the food! lol We started to feed our cat Tia out on the back porch - one night we heard a noise and looked on the back step to find a hedgehog eating the remnants of Tias food and Tia hiding behind a small tree about 5 feet away! There were also a group of blackbirds that used to chase her away and eat her food - we didn't want her to starve so we started feeding her inside again! Maybe Tia and Moomin ar related! xxx

Payback is a wonderful thing ROTF. Moomin looked so shocked at the time although she looks a bit smug in the photograph. I never had her pegged as a scaredy cat but the magpies have shown her otherwise. Poor Tia, fancy being intimidated by a hedgehog, I hope she's ok

I know that the Magpies in my yard have absolutely no fear of the cats. Crows, who belong to the same family as magpies, gang up on owls when they find them. Both crows and magpies are really smart birds.

The gangs of them around here seem to be very smart, although I am just waiting for Moomin to take her revenge, that should be amusing.

Poor little kitty! I did see a cat scared by a crow once. The cat slept on a neighbor's roof regularly, and a crow swooped down and awakened the cat with a squawk, scaring him away for a short while. The cat was back in the same spot, sound asleep, the next time I looked.

We have quite a large crow population where I live, so there are quite a few nests around. All the neighbourhood cats are forever finding these nests and provoking the crows. The crows will gang up and try to attack the cats who are near their nests. My cat Max got stuck on a ledge in our chimney once, as the crows were dive bombing him to scare him away, he soon came hurring back inside the house.
Also the crows tend to gang up on the magpies that are nesting nearby and the other day I saw them diving at a lone seagull that was flying overhead.

Lmao! That is soo funny! I have never seen the birds attack a cat before. What I have seen though is my cat sitting in the window twitching her tail and chattering while looking at the birds. However, when you let her outside and she sees the birds she gets scared :)

I was so pleased to be able to photograph Moomin on the bird table, I don't think she will be spending much time on it now :-)
