Could YOU Survive LIVING Solely from the INTERNET?

If you could no longer leave your home to travel to the grocery store or had a need to go to leave your home to go to work but you had your computer and the internet, could you survive?
Could you purchase all your food, clothes, daily necessarities, along with companionship from your online friends, would you be able to survive? Would you know where to go to find these necessary items?

Let me scratch my head here. I guess I could pay bills online. I could continue with friends. I know people who buy clothes and other things on the net. I wonder about food though. I have heard about some places where you can order food online from some grocery stores. I dont know if those are very sucessful. I guess I could always order pizza. I dont know any agorophobics, wonder how they do this. I want to believe that I could do ok. But that is just because sometimes I feel things are such a hassle.

I think it has become easier for us to be able to do this, since pretty much all our necessary items can be found via the internet. Thanks for responding, my friend, it is always appreciated!

I would never be able to earn my living online and I also think I might have a problem with not beeing able to socialise with people in real... But finding all the stuff I need I am sure wouldn´t be a problem. Internet is a whole world and if u look hard enough you can find whatever you want =)

i tried surviving on the internet once. it wasn't very successful. munching on RJ45 cables and licking the modem did not sustain me. after 3 minutes of the attempt to live of the internet i gave up.

I think I would be able to survive, and even enjoy myself for a little while. But it would definitly not be a very happy life... the loneliness would eventually make me go crazy, methinks.

Not in the long run... I need some physical contact sometimes, and be able to see someone face to face.

Not having HAD to do it, I'm not sure if I could do it. I do most of my shopping online as it is and I maneuver very well through the internet but I might have a problem with the social part of it.
Now, having prefaced with that - I DREAM of the day when I can do just that! After a long, hard day of dealing with irrational people, bad customer service, mismatched co-workers, crazy traffic jams and over 100 degree heat index, who wouldn't want to just sit in a cool calm environment, listening to music of your choosing, dressed in your most comfy clothes, typing away leisurely at my own pace and going on exciting search adventures? A girl has to have a fantasy, right?

Quite easily, I'm a bit of a recluse and prefer to stay in, I could quite easily stay at home and get everything off the internet, I would love to work from home and earn serious money and I would go out less and less, the only time I'd need to go out is to the gym or on holiday and apart from that I could happily live off the internet 24/7

Yeah, I think I am a recluse also, and have seen it coming for years, I think I am at a point right now where I could live in my house and never leave and be able to survive. Thanks for responding, my friend, so good to see you again.

I sure could!!!! You would be surprised what Amazon.com sells!!!
They even sell my General Mills sugar free coffee!!! :)
I have my sister online to talk to.
I have friends online to talk to.
I can order what I need online.
Heck, if I really had to...I could text message my partner's phone to tell him to pick up milk. ha ha Hey...I would still be using the internet. ha ha

For about 7 months i did just that, except i didn't buy anything on the net, i had my hubby do it for me.
I didn't want to leave my home, i didn't want to go anywhere, and i didn't want to do anything, i got so depressed, so lonely, so completely distraught...
Now at this time, i had 3 people living with me, a pig, her pig boyfriend and thier few month old son that they refused to give the time of day, let alone a meal.
I took over caring for their son, his first word was Auntie...
But it got so bad, he wasn't mine, i knew that, my hubby and i wanted one so bad, and that made it worse, i got depressed, threatened to have social services come in and take the child and write off our home because of the condition it was in and locked myself in my room with my computer. She began taking the baby in to me every morning at 8 and i put him to bed at night, had him in my room all day every day, i was on the computer for everything, including companionship when my hubby was at work.
surprisingly enough, i didn't gain a pound, didn't lose a pound and didn't go insane, only left my room for bathroom breaks, to make the meals and put the kid to bed, but i was in bad shape i guess you can say mentally, and by the time i saw it, i burst, booted her, called child and family services on her for her parenting, and then started to take my life back.
Though it's possible to rely on the internet for everything (i would have if i had a credit card) it's hard on the mind and body... I'm just now learning to get out of the house and enjoy myself... so i don't recomend it.
and finding the necessary items online isn't hard if you know your search engines and how to use them.

I am so glad you have grown from this experience, while it was hard for you, it also made you realize that you did not want to be around this, that it was too hard to go through. I am sorry for your pain, but glad to see you grow.
Be well, my friend!

Yeah, neither does Houston, shame, when I lived in Philadelphia they had a grocery service that was wonderful, I used to use it all the time, and with petsmart.com, no more heavy bags of cat litter to haul home. Thanks for responding, my friend, have a good one!

I think anyone could actually survive staying at home with just their computer/internet...they do have websites of how to buy food for instance...as for interaction with people one can do that too, like coming here and being with friends here... Since I'm a solitary creature to begin and am home a lot I do rely on my computer for a lot of things to begin with already

I rely on my computer for mostly everything, and think I could live on it without the need or desire to ever leave my house again, but after many days of doing this I do find it harder to leave so I try to get out at least once a day. Thanks for responding, my friend, and as always, it is a pleasure to have you join my discussion.
Be well!

I dont know if I could because there really are no grocery store sites that I knoww of but I could live not going to stores like best buy or wal mart because I can always order from amazon.com which I do buy a lot there but if I couldnt find a grocery site on line it would be very hard to live without because you do need your food and licquids.

With my computer, it would be impossible to live on purchasing things like food and clothes, because I will never know if is pasturize, manufactured up-to-date and in good condition. I could go along with daily necessarities, companionship from online and travel, but food and clothes may the only two consumptions that I have to leave home to travel to the grocery store and department store. For clothes, I would have to be in person to know my size, style, and color.

I learned years ago to stick with particular brands and I know my sizes so I do purchase most of my clothes online and enjoy not having to go to the mall, but to each their own, thanks for responding, it is truly appreciated!

I`m heading down that road , wondering how I will make it not being able to get groceries , I have asked my worker about this and they say they don`t help people with these tasks .
I have no idea what my future holds , except a nursing home one day soon , as I live far from my family ...
I really don`t want to impose on them .
Do you have any ideas ????
Thank-you !!!!

This is an excellent dicussion texasclassygal! Personally I'm not sure. I might could, though, because I shop Wal-Mart all the time and I know they have their website. If I could have groceries delivered from their website then I probably could. I have met many wonderful friends here on MyLot, one of which is you, and I'm sure I could make it for that aspect of having friends to talk with. It would definitely be a challenge but if I had to I think I could do it.

I would pass with flying colors, texas, because most people that know me already call me a recluse. I'm not quite that bad though. I just pick and choose the times that I want to leave my home. I am a recovering agoraphobic, and staying in is second nature to me. I have people tell me all the time that they don't see how I can stay in the house so much. I tell them, it's simple. I always try to make sure that I have everything I need in my apartment, so that eliminates my having to go out so much. It's fine for people who like to be out and about all of the time-I'm just not made that way.

I think it's pretty possible to do that nowadays. It's not easy yet, but things are getting more and more comfortable for online purchases and even online jobs.
I personally don't like to buy things online, unless it's a CD, DVD, book or something. When it comes to clothes, shoes and this sort of stuff, I like to try it on, look carefully, touch it and do whatever else I think might be necessary.
But anyway, I guess anyone can "live online" nowadays.

You probably could survive with just the internet and all the services offered on it, but I think the real question is do you want to. I like to be social and go out with friends every now and then. By just having the internet, that takes away a big part of my life and it is for that reason I would probably not want to live on just the internet.
